Luckily I don't have to think, because I already know why the rule was only implemented in Alpha, and it has nothing to do with how many beacons people run at one time, it was to stop griefing on Alpha using beacons.

Thank you I understand why the restriction is on Alpha. can you please tell me why it was not implemented on Beta and Gamma?

Agreed, but then why nerf it on Beta?

Dazz, normally I dont correct anyone not named Ville when they say something stupid.

But I have to here. Do you have any idea how long people have been running multiple beacons?
At least as long as they have been in the game. At least a year, probably a year and and a half minimum.
Do you know how many times Devs have watched people running them? I guarantee you its been more than once and not just recently.

Why do you think the Devs made the rule restricting beacon placement only on Alpha, but not Beta or Gamma.... And also for about as long as there have been beacons.

So please, the Devs have been well aware of how people have been doing beacons and for how long. In no way shape or form have they ever intended beacons to only be run one at a time.

The sole issue with beacons now is terraforming is too great of an advantage to running them. As already mentioned their availabilty also contributes to the problem.  Don't kid yourself otherwise.

Quoting something I actually think is well written, by Ville none the less (of course removed trolling fuuu )

I agree, there is a certain reward in the accomplishment on base design. They just need to be less difficult to crack so more people will show up and try and kick your castle down.

Currently for beacons there is the "500m" placement rule .. Someone said this was done to not grief alpha players by dropping 6 beacons on his ***, even though they wont aggro or AoE his bot.
Beta and Gamma currently have no restrictions.  You can terraform a box on Gamma that will keep multiple beacons in a small area and use AoE to help run these more efficiently.
On Beta you can also drop multiple beacons but the last changes to NPC AI meant that they will pathfind a way out of any "natural" beacon pit and also remove themselves from a potential AoE death .. Much harder to farm these Beacons on Beta.

That about right? Terraforming on Gamma is what make beacons too easy. If you must limit placement, do it on Gamma, NOT BETA. This may actually give a reason to hang out on Beta, and would promote co-operative game play, simply because you will need more than a few player to try and successfully chain 4-5 beacons. This also will increase more opportunities for PVP on Beta, isn't that what Beta is for?

I am not sure missions should be nerfed before the assignment rework is done, seems a waste of resources. Anni explained how missions work but neglected the important part, you need access to Beta outposts to run the missions and you're not always friends with the owners.  The flipside is it IS Beta, and there already is a mechanic called SAPS that allow you to get ownership... Players could "nerf" their enemies missions if they so choose.

Quit calling it an exploit Jas, its an imbalance. And it will be corrected soon. Just some of my thought on what to do about it...

Wait, you mean it would be stupid of a player to put all his stuff in a location where another player could simply take it all? I completely agree with you Syndic, it would have to be a special kind of stupid player to do something like that.

Because of the nature of this type of game there will always be things and mechanics that one person in game is in a better postions to take advantage of or use. Access to Gamma, or missions, having more EP, right place right time ... whatever ... It will always occur. But, I dont think one should compare the cargo "exploit" and the insurance duping to the current beacon and mission situation. The cargo and insurance were both cases of players deliberately using mechanics that were not functioning correctly, whereas the beacon and missions themselves are using mechanics that work in their own right. The problem with them is new mechanics have made them far easier to complete than were intended ... And the Devs simply haven't finished revamping the missions yet, or patched the beacons. Right at the time I entered the game I believe there was an issue with Observer spawns on Beta where they could be infinitely farmed for kernels ... The Devs "corrected" this , as they will soon do with the beacons, but not before the Powers of the day had already gotten their fill of kernels and a great jump up on the rest in regards to tech.

It happens, it gets fixed, the game rolls on. Same situation, beacons and missions, but not deliberite misuses like the cargo and insurance.

One other example ... Devs announced changes to Gamma and structures when it was first launched, making Norgalis far more required but also far easier to produce in higher yields. What myself and another player did was go and plant 300+ norg plants in some isolated Gamma and literally farmed for 2 weeks straight. I believed we produced roughly 50 mil units of Norg, which we sold at an average price of 40 per ... We anticipated the price would crash hard, and it did ... Current price is at 10 ... Would you consider this an exploit or just using your head and understanding what the future brings .. The same currently applies to mission running ...

I'm basically saying that beacons insurance and god knows what else only come to light by forum posts and whining when its glaringly obvious from the data.

By putting beacons and insurance (fraud) together are you implying they are both exploits? Because there's a hige difference between running missions and beacons now with the current game mechanics and the inusrance and cargo exploits. Back on topic I thought the OP was asking for more rhings like the corp circle graphs and the travel map you guys put out last year ... Things like those and usage statistics like % of blue/green/red bots would be cool. If it doesnt consume precious resources. Maybe have Jita make something up, much along the likes of what Ludlow did with the killboard stats.

The problem wasn't the comments themselves but the ability to post them anonymously ... Eliminate that somehow and make people accountable for their comments and you will still get some excellent trolling and anger between sides, minus all the racist and gay crap no one would dare post their name on. In the end, even though I enjoyed jumping into the comments, I really don't care if they are there or not.

Possibly do the placement change on Gamma, because this is where beacons plus terraforming = unproportional Nic ... But leave the multiple beacon placement possibility in effect on Beta. This would allow more danger for those running the beacons in the sense the NPCs tend to charge the players and other players could "interrupt" the ones running the beacons. Since Beta is "worthless" this would give some incentive to do something there, and with risk.

Jesus you people suck at economics. Ice prices will fall.

Umm yeah I was thinking the same thing. Nic aplenty and people will spend a premium on anything ... Limit Nic and buyers dry up and sellers need to lower prices to move product. That's my understanding anyways.

Although a nerf needs to be applied to the beacons, please consider the bigger picture. On its own the AoE rules on Beta and Gamma are sound in their own right, but when you introduced the ability to terraform, these mechanics allowed efficient farming of the beacons. Even the mission system, for the most part, is a sound system ... Players in these types of games need a stable and reliable method to grind for either standings or Nic or minerals or whatever. The problem arises when you introduce new mechanics that allow old mechanics to become quite easy. So nerf where needed, but please undersrand why a nerf is needed and maybe correct the actual problem.

I'm fully aware in the sense of the missions that you are aware of this and are in the process of revamping the mission systems ... It just hasnt happened yet and in the meantime its make hay while the sun shines.

Its ironic how the call for this particular nerf came about, and those who are for it and those who are now against it.

The truth is, it was enough to simply read this topic to see that a change was necessary. When the number of wrecks already means a problem, you know there is something wrong.

This is a joke... CIR used to farm level 3 Mech beacons on Beta by the 7's without this level of lag. During this time we had upwards of 20+ of our own bots on the field. Now i am farming 7 with 7 and lagging to the point other zoned islands begin to lag.

Wrecks used to not be a problem.........

Lemon I suspect this has ALOT to do with all the terraforming and structures on Gamma itself .... Those plus the AoE and wrecks and containers dont seem to mix well. You get even worse performance the closer you run the beacons to your main set of Gamma Structures.

And Syndic you are suggesting wiping everything and starting fresh ... Everyone as noob again?
I am just curious .... It's suggested you were given ICE to play, meaning youre not actually paying to play. Do you think its correct for someone in this situation to suggest something that completely alters the game for everyone that does play and has invested any length of time in the game? Sure I know your history and how much you've PLAYED ... but do you actually intend to stick around this time until at least the Steam relaunch or are you just dipping your toe in the water for a month or 2?

With the time players have invested into the game and terraforming and such, if they ever relaunched the game (ie for Steam, for optimization, whatever) maybe wipe with allowing credit for current ep levels, and investments into Gamma ...  A complete wipe with no credits is a giant *** you to players who have put alot of time into this game.

Not a troll btw, just curious if your motive for this suggestion is legitimate.
And yes it's the internet, I am quite aware you can post whatever and wherever, and its none of my business. It's not up to me to clarify whatever your reasons are, are legit. I am simply curious.

I don't see much of a problem with this. When is the next patch expected?

Noobs dont kill vets in EVE either ... And how many accounts/active subs and daily player base does that game have?

40k on at any one time ... And not because the game is easy.
Currently, without too much effort, newer corps are settling Gamma with bases. These players die quicker to more experienced players but they are also reaping some of the production and other Gamma benefits the vets have. This is a game of patience. There is no substitute for time in the game. You either put it in or you don't ... and it's not the playstyle for everyone.

And really, training one skill to drive a bigger bot does not make a player better instantly. Early on I put ALOT of ep into fitting skills so I could drive whatever bot effectively. When I finally got into the Mesmer Mk2 I still had to spend another 150k-200k ep to fit it decently ... And I still die more than I should. Point is, pilot ability, and a combination of extensions are far more important than just racing into the biggest bots. If noobs understand this, and realize it takes a commitment to do something in the game, at least the ones who stay will probably stay for awhile.

I honestly like Inda's idea and had suggested something similar. Before Agents are integrated into Nia they stop in a tutorial island. While on the island they can try different aspects of the game, races, bots, weapons etc.. They can stay as long as they want and try and practice whatever. But when you leave the tutorial island and enter the main game, all you bring with you is your EP. No money, or items, or anything. You leave the island, reroll your character and spend whatever EP you have on something at least while making a more informed decision.

You should be able to at least triple your new player retention rate, at the minimum.

Ok so even though I have my own producer, and between him and my corp mates I can make virtually any mod or bot, I have still probably spent 500 mill on buying mods on the open market. Why?  Because I lose bots during PvP, or PvP opportunities arise and I don't have equipment nearby but it's on the market ... So I replace what I need right away until my manufacturing is completed.

I'm sure others do the same.

So although its not the only reason .. PvP does drive the market.
Increased PvP will increase market demand.

In the end it's a population problem.  Honestly, no matter what is done to stimulate or spur the current market, the market will always be inefficient until there are more people.

The Paradox for the Devs is that they must make all content geared towards the preferred population threshold, not the current one.

Just ignore him, he hasn't been around for months and will be gone in another month, in the meantime he's got a lot of trolling to catch up on. I'm pretty sure the non-whining non exploiters like myself and the other 85% of the server will just play the game.

Using a macro to open a field can is not an exploit right?

Just playing and getting EP and better at everything from trolling to production to PvP .... Loyal till this game dies but hoping it takes off before then ...

Hey Obi ... I think you are handling this the right way ... in how you're asking.  Keep it up.

But Mouse actually posted a pretty accurate picture of what has probably occured. Ville's constant bullshit whining isnt gonna get him anywhere. What Syndic and CIR did is not the same as this "gifted" stuff.

The EULA could and maybe should be changed somewhat to be slightly more clear.  But the bottom line is intent.
A single player multiboxing 9 mining accounts is not an exploit. A corp or group of players sharing the same number of accounts mining the same amount of time is exploiting.

Lets be honest .. the offense Syndic actually got banned for wasnt important, it was his conduct that earned him the ban. Arrogance and Stupidity.  Its the Devs game.  They alone will enforce the EULA when they see the inent of it is not being followed. If PHM spent a quarter of the time they spend crying on the forums actually playing the game they might not be getting their *** kicked all the time. And Ville likes to say STC would be nothing without Merkle. What corp wouldnt be worse off with out an excellent FC or leader?  Heck without Merkle we'd be like ...PHM. Well, maybe not that bad.

But instead of getting Lemon to cry on the forums for you why not get him to actually play and maybe FC one of your fleets?  Would probably be more effective.

Funny because you wrote on multi boxing and as it relates to the game and F2P ... And I countered your point on it. Someone is ESL and needs reading comprehension classes.
The only reason this F2P discussion was necro'd was because someone was bored and wanted to be part of a discussion. It doesn't work in the PO model and it doesn't work in the EVE model. And everyone I knew who played EVE also multi boxed there as well. Now that PLEX was introduced here, high nic earning players now play for free, as in EVE, and the Devs supplant their lost sub income with PLEX income ...  Net gain is zero dollar wise, but players have more options to pay for subs. F2P is and should be a non issue in PO. Let it die.
