yea its kinda difficult to tell what would be the most profitable ventures out there, at this early stage of the game. certainly mining will be the most reliable.

Missions themselves dont seem like they would be amazing at money making,  more of a relations increasing mechanic and a way to get the mission ammo.

With combat you can obviously farm away..  but then it comes down to what will you do with the loot to maximise your profits?  Recycle, maybe sell stuff?  That would mean upping some other skills.

So maybe a combat mech for farming, a miner, and the third a hauler / recycler / marketeer.   Possibly having the miner have some basic production skills?

But remember that any character using a station factory or facility needs to have his standings up, so you'll probably need each character doing some missions.

I suspect the best way would be to focus purly on combat, with a supporting hauling / recycling / selling character,  or focusing purly on mining!  Miner, Harvester, producer/hauler

I like to pop infestation artifacts near miners! LOL cool

I think the megacorps building these structures clearly feel sympathy for the special needs of certain islands and inhabitants.

I think people are forgetting that Dev's mentioned an upkeep cost to outposts after the first, so the possibility of an alliance even wanting to capture and retain the whole map is pretty much an out-of-date concept.

An alliance mechanic in PO would need to be very carefully considered before throwing something in just to resolve a short term problem.  For example I feel an alliance should have some form of upkeep cost.

But in the mean time, for the new SAP mechanic,  why not just have it defer to the rights of corp who the squad leader belongs to?

That way you can be sure there is at least one official representation of that corp is present.

I hope some of the SAPs get changed with it too.

the Destruction SAP for example needs a huge force to be destroyed.

I agree,  as right now it still means needing a blob, either defending or attacking.

So,  I guess noone saw that coming cool

ownership appeal is likley to be dictated by this 'relationship benefit'

Currently having high relations only actually benefits production by a small percentage.  If that improves substantially with the new system then outposts could be way more appealing.

if indeed the new system generates a lot more pvp, then its going to become a battle of resources and those production benefits will be really important.

But if 'maximum benefit from relations' is still only a few % then it probably wont effect appeal that much at all.  Just go alpha.

oooh, big_smile, I've played this game before =]

I think ERP's are different because they are quite new to the game.  Its not so much the epi which has them priced high but the knowledge required to manufacture them.

I think you'll find that most Beta corps hoard any stuff they get as a direct result of being native to Beta.   There isnt a lot you need NIC for except for guarding against any future content.

Only reason why products are over priced on the market is because there is no perceived, standard value.

so this is what cryogenic stasis feels like neutral

I think with eve you can carebear in high-sec and easily farm enough money to purchase those expensive modules and resources, found only in 0.0 (equivelent beta)

But there isnt the thriving, healthy market in PO that allows an Alpha side corp to do that... at least not to the extend that they can happily pvp competitively and still not have unbridled access to Beta.

Personally a great deal of all the problems comes down to that 'lack of market' issue.

Its like I said, so long ago ; http://forums.perpetuum-online.com/topi … e-economy/

Since NeX is only about a month old  its still early days.. but if you can make it JOTY then i'll eat my own balls =]

yea just because you can smell the fresh air on another island does not mean your on that island.  All your doing is opening the front (or back) door looking in and then leaving.

Takes forever to roam an entire island even in fast lights.  But thats not to say I dont disagree about somehow changing teleports or rather, some other means to reach islands.

We have, what, 6 Beta islands?  which theoretically means that only 6 alliances / power-bloc's can exist.  Say what you want about blobs but it seems to me the game is designed to encourage it.

Theres no way two enemy's can live on the same island, so there would have to be some mutual agreement for scouting the teleport exits.  so an alliance or some large single corp is the only way it can work.

If and when the game does grow to the extent that all 6 islands are populated, what then?  Slap on more islands, that encourage more blobbing?

Something drastic has got to change!  And the only thing that I can think of is an achipelago of little islands and some kind of sea faring transport neutral

If you have the status bar active (on the bottom) when you click "calculate", it should give you a estimated position (x, y) represented by the cross hairs on the graphical part.  We fooled around with displaying the locations on the overlay but found they got lost or were hard to see when you had several scans up.  The letters became hard to read in a swarm of reds and greens.

Not sure what you mean.

currently I make my game window slighly smaller so that I can move the window behind it to show the 'expected location'

That way, when in game I can quickly mouse over the map to see, in real terms, where this location is.

What would be nice is to have the game fully windowed and then have the coordinates overlay..  as I said, similar to the FPS metre on FRAPs,  which is in BIG yellow letter and a black border.

I'll maybe take some screenshots and show you what I mean

hmm, so it seems the only question people really have is when its coming out? lol

Credit where credit is due.

This application is really sweet,  I avoided trying it at first as I thought it might spoil artifact hunting and I also wanted to practice and learn the system myself anyway.

But there is only so far you can get unless your good with maths and triangulation.

By the way, 40mb is no sweat consdering how usefull this tool is.

I cant even think of many ways to improve it.   It would be handy if you had the 'expected location' coordinates as an overlay.. you know like the FPS indicator on FRAPS?

Anyway, good job o7

er.. I can see why you didnt get the diplomat job. lol.

I think the negativity you feel is more coming from the expectation that NeX wont stick around for long.  Nothing personal.

Your just being baited into taking a side, and your will to survive is being tested from all angles.

Hope you can prove them wrong and stick around.

Dude... your face

Its finally here!...

So much speculation has been going on,  so many unanswerd questions to be answered,  here are just a few of mine..

- Will docking rights be implements given the concerns of the community?
- Will docking rights be for ALL Beta outposts?
- What will happen about assignments going to the locked-down outposts?
- Did you manage to snag an outpost?
- Did you get all your stuff out?
- Will docking rights be only for the secondary BETA islands?
- Will this actually have the effect of making BETA a more desirable place to live
- Will there be more PVP! smile

These are just a few of mine,  what are yours ?

What I'd like to know, which ive yet to find a definate answer on.. is wether or not there is any difference between Alpha Islands and Beta islands?

Do higher levels more regularly spawn?
Are the contents of the artifacts on Beta more likley to be better?
are the mobs which spawn oh a higher level on beta?

From what I can tell from people ive spoken to suggests that the answer is 'No'  but surly there must be some difference... risk vs reward an all that.

The best present would be more players..

So for those who couldnt make such a party, maybe a week free reactivation for inactive accounts?

but such a gift would be meaningless unless the account holders were TOLD...  so a newsletter or some notification to those players.

Yes, sorry I was very blunt.

But I dont mean that there should be NO solo content, of course solo content is indeed necessary,  but when someone is attempting to solo content design for more than one player (I didnt say full group) then it annoys me.

Because when content design for 'more than one player' is "balanced" to be more soloable because of complaints like these.. then it never ends until everything is soloable.

Edit;

Additionally,  when you nerf things to be soloable for noob characters, whats the benefit of having an older more experienced character that can use bots that are then able to solo the earlier content?

If this was a traditional MMO, you wouldnt say.. "FFS, Im level 10, why cant I solo level 30 stuff?"
