Quoting from latest dev blog:

"Henceforth, the combat mission relations will not be effecting production. Industrial mission relations will still be calculated."

It just says combat missions will not affect production so, if no further changes are mentioned, I will assume no changes with transport missions. Furthermore last sentence doesn't say 'only' industrial missions.

Yea, its easy to see that combat missions wont effect production from what the do say... but doesnt say what combat missions WILL effect.

Is Recycling classed as production?...  is the only reason to do combat to decrease repair costs and unlock higher level missions?

Its all very dry and wishy-washy...  on the surface the blog makes the coming month look exciting and interesting...  but actually, its very vague and shallow, to make it worse Devs arent answering questions directly.

Expectations need to be managed.

Again, too many questions about this subject and not enough answers.

The reason why the 'new' beta islands dont have assignments was because we were told at the time "we may implement docking rights in the future on these bases"

So outpost-less corps may suddenly be making a grab for power before it becomes too hard only for devs to say "well.. we only meant the new beta islands duh"

Its kind of a tough one.

A Paid re-spec would mean too much "pay to win" as those who can afford to change gain an advantage over those who cant.

There is also the problem when Dev's suddenly change something critical, players make decisions based on what they know to be true at the time, if a dev decides to alter that then its not really fair on the player.

City of Heroes is a classic example of this, they ended up having to offer a free 're-spec' to all accounts after every expansion.

A good example is with the proposed changes to 'relations'.  They say... and I quote :

"This is quite unfair, as these characters typically have little extension points invested in combat, so their combat extension spending comes at an expensive rate and they are forced into activities they may not prefer. "

So now, what about all characters who have spent points into combat related skills and were.. and using their own words "unfairly" forced into combat?  Do we all have to petition to get that back?...  you can do that now, but what about when there are hundreds of thousands of accounts?

If there were a 'paid reset' then it could be seen that Devs do it purposefully to gain a bit of cash when their next toaster fails.

Too many questions here and not enough answers.

It really is a matter of perspective.

and maybe the new system will alow players to swap and change between skills to decide for themselves which type of weapon is their preference.

The amount of people who start out thinnking green is awesome, and later change to yellow is almost as frequent as people who start out as yellow and switch to green.

But each have big advantages and dis-advantages which doesnt really sink in until you regularly pvp.

The system is 'un-forgiving' because its designed from they get go to be a multi-player game.

Really, the only people who have a problem with PO are people that have a problem with playing with anyone but themselves.

squad up or GTFO

Its more a case of Eve has had 8 something years of constant balancing and changes to get to the stage were its fitting system is logical and makes sense.

They are right though.. somethings are not logical and just dont make sense even withing the games own system.   Its almost as if the devs are purposfully trying to be different from Eve, which is breaking the system. Its like they are trying to re-invent the wheel.

Its not so much that anything is in-balanced, its more that there isnt any room for clever thinking and exotic fits... pretty much every bot only has 1 or 2 ways to fit.  Ships in Eve can be fitted in so many different ways that when they come to PO, they are a bit sad to find that basically 't4 everything or gtfo'

Has this been confirmed by devs?

Negative.

I think the best we can hope for is that all characters get this 30days 'skill point jostle-that-locks-at-level-6' feature.

so for now.. just dont level anything past 5.

its not really that suprising that Pve content in a pvp game is bad.

I mean, it took CCP what, 5/6 years before they even bother to do anything with pve.

The fun is in the content that players provide,  I dont disagree that PvE does need some love.. but suprised??... er no.  Think you've probably got the wrong idea.

no its quite simple.

let me illustrate.

There is a party going on, everyone is having fun... the party eventually dies down because nothing is happening.   people go home, because its boring.

party organisers suprise everyone at the last minute.

Had they announced before hand the shedule, people would have stayed.. the party would continue.

Avatar Creations have basically waited until everyone is asleep and already going home before saying "hey.. were doing something"

loads of people have pm'ed me to say "yea but they are a new dev company still learing"... dude, ive been a gamer all my life, Im no pro, but I know what I need as a gamer to keep my enthusiam going.  what, so becoming a dev means you suddenly forgot all that?

bah.. whatever, who cares.... oh wait..

I think the devs are shy and dont like attention.

They'de rather answer a question 5 times in seperate theads that make one comment that everyone can read.

Its early days, they will eventually join the darkside.

yea, have no problems with release patch notes just before or right after a patch... thats like how every game does it...

But to not announce that its coming.. and to wait until several hours before announcing a 3 hour DT....   that is just weird.

Its just that, in the past week population is dwindling once again as people lose interest and default to "play another game while EP builds up"... or... "ill come back when there is an update"

The problem with letting people think that nothings going on or even that a big patch is imminent is that once people start playing another game... its kinda hard to rip them away again.

Until the blog just now all we knew was "this summer" .. officially the end of summer is several months away, now, with Eve you still have to log in to switch skills.. but with PO, you dont need to, you just sit and wait, and the longer you wait the less interested you get and the more reward you get when you do come back.

I just cant help but think that if Devs just said something as simple as "big update coming in the next few weeks"  then the drop in activity could have been avoided as people build up excitment and speculation.

er,  thanks for linking a random thread about balances.

feel free to stay on topic.

Patch was delayed, they found some serious bug in last moment.

yea we know that,  but we dont know what the patch is.

Even so, why the secrecy?  Normally a sheduled patch is something to make song and dance about as if we were welsh roll

I only knew of a patch to fix some memory leak issues, and I only knew that because a dev mentioned it in some burried away thread.

But logging on today I got the announcment that it will be down for 3 hours!.. which really suprised me, 3 hours DT for a fix? hmmm.. ok...

then after the 'patch has been delayed' Dev's were making comments in general about it being a fully featured update patch! yikes

nothing in the news section, no stickys about a 3 hour down time... no patch notes..

Did I miss the memo?

I dont mean to be rude but a bit of notice would be awesome cool  (even if it does get then later get delayed)

Just saying.. if you want more small bot combat then come in small bots and you'll probably find the enemy will react.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't have bothered to make this proposal if that were the case.

But thats what I'm saying... I've already changed my pattern.  and soon other mechs will get fed up of dragging behind.

You just cant expect results straight away, it takes time... remember its only been what, 2/3 weeks since NeX started?

OK, it seems that a lot of eve players have lost their wind and returned to Eve, which is understandable,  why come to a game where your the underdog noob when you have 3 years old character on Eve that crushes noobs like insects.

But most eve players will acknowledge that 3 weeks is nothing and any player that doesnt have the stamina to stick around isnt really worth being concered about.

These things just take time, this kind of pvp is hardcore for players crave that real danger and would want their opponent to fight no-holds-barred.   Frankly, if I knew a corp was down-sizing just to help then I'd be properly insulted.

For example,  we arnt gona take sympathy on M2S and give them a break for whats happened and I'm damn sure they would hate it if we did.

as they were in EVE, than PO is likely doomed and at least relegated to a really, really slow growth curve.

Except that this kind of gameplay is exactly why Eve has grown and grown over the years to become the success it is today.  So its not really the correct analogy.

I do respect what your trying to say though.

Generally though, people are reactive as opposed to pro-active.  Personally, I've been preferring to jump into an assault recently just because there's been a lot of small bot combat.

No point in getting the mechs out and risking them when smaller bots are faster more effective (and imo more fun)

Just saying.. if you want more small bot combat then come in small bots and you'll probably find the enemy will react.

If everyone only ever showed up with smalls, then Im fairly sure that smalls will get used in increasing numbers... you'll never eliminate the mechs though.

You mean well, but it would never happen.

apart from organisation hating each others guts,  to keep an island secure an appropriate force is required which no organisation would compromise.

Though I personally do enjoy small bot combat over mech combat just because mechs are so slow and 'getting' to the pvp takes hours and hours.

Maybe in the future there could be islands whose teleports cant alow Mechs through..   or places where mechs cant traverse.

Either way, it would have to be a game feature, not some 'gentlemens agreement'

well thats flawed logic isnt it.  vanity items have no 'use' and just for looks.

and if you think that noone would use it, then you've never had to keep an island scouted 24/7

Live on a beta island and your attitude would change very quickly.

That's my main point.

You dont see the point of it now,  but you will! yarr

Now, you can either make as much money as you possibly can until that incentive comes along,  or you can take the opportunity to roam the pvp places now, while there are no wars on and while pvp is quiet.

Just memorizing the names of teleports, where those teleports take you,  the land and the shape of the land around you... find the choke points, the places where people mine, find the mob spawns to avoid.... just getting some actual experience will give you a head start over anyone who doesnt.

You have an opportunity here and now which you may never get.

If you look at the actual benefits you gain from from leveling up skills there really isnt much!

so some have 5% more damage, or 6% more optimal range, maybe they can lock 0.3seconds faster,  battles in PO, as with most pvp games, are won and lost by circumstances and situation.

My first ever pvp experience in eve was vs a 3 year old character who was in a full t2 fitted rifter,  I was in a t1 fitted rifter too and only 2 weeks old.  But the fact I have a plate on and he didnt ensured me the win.

Of course, PO isnt the same as "lock - orbit - fire " (and yes I know eve isnt quite as basic as that too)  but terrain makes a hell of a difference,  and roaming mobs.

So it may seem like a big difference but you can be assured that after a month or so the difference narrows very quickly.

so just keep rolling with those transport missions and making as much money as you can possibly make... the economy will right itself smile

yea, it is odd that people complain about the fact they can make too much money in a pvp game, and yet hardly pvp at all.

You cant complain about an island bieng dead when you actively try to stamp on people who move there.

Well there are 5 islands empty, not just one.  No matter how big an organisation is it could never lock down them all 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

This is the nature of beta islands though, there will always be someone trying to stamp you out of existence yikes
