I detect a lot of hyperbole and ignorance.

In my experience, RMT, done right, has only ever been beneficial to games.  Eve online is the only mmo to ever continually grow every year since release, the trading system is part of that reason and should be embraced.

As for D3, since trading has been removed, people say 'its better'  but actually, evidence is that people just dont play it for nearly as long, rifting gets very boring, very quick.  I literally played nothing else for a year but d3v.  Ros lasted me 3 weeks.  But thats okay for 'pay once' games, its not okay for mmo's who's very existence utterly depends on player numbers.

I say, do anything you can to increase numbers and popularity.  Both Eve and D3 shows proof that any trading system that doesnt work can simply be removed, reworked, or improved later.

lol,  I hear ya.  I've complained about this since day one.  there is no contrast, everything looks dull, hard to make out, grey.. flat, washed colours.

And yet, everytime I did say something the overwhelming response was : "Its meant to be that way"

the main problem is when a brand new player first steps out into the world.  the bot appears the same colour as the floor, so its difficult to make out.  The floor is the same colour as the buildings, so you can't make out where your going.  It just looks really bad and gives a very poor impression on the new player.

There needs to be more lights and contrasting shadows to differentiate the floor and the building and the bots themselves need to have their digital vibrance increased significanly.

and its not like as if it would be hard to fix,  if you just take a screen shot, put it into photoshop and play with the levels you can make everything look better, level adjustments are basic tools and I can't imagine it would be that hard to fix.

But no, "its meant to be that way"

Some 10 channels up right now?

http://www.twitch.tv/directory/game/EVE%20Online

My point exactly, just 10 people, one of which is a static cam.

and look at the viewer count, most of them have 0 viewers or just 1.

extremly underwhelming, not worth streaming or viewing sad

In case you didnt know, "Expansions" in games are ALWAYS optional, they are NEVER obligatory, therfore, noone is ever "obliged to pay".

Congratulations on successfully on dis-proving your own argument.

Some actual stats from AC would be interesting.

This is just a wild personal speculation, but what's in it for Valve to add a game with their own 3rd party payment system to Steam? I mean the client is free to download, and the rest goes through our own store. (I don't know if they even have support for subscription-based stuff.)

Its a deep subject but in the end its comes down to the magical term from which all advertising principles are based... 'Market Awareness'  which for a DDN like steam is ultimately mutually beneficial.

As for your part in brackets...  why not purchase a copy of Eve online through steam.. or any other mmo for that matter wink

[edit] OK, i''ll elaborate more ;

When you purchase an mmo from steam they give you a code, from that code you will make your account and setup your subscription directly as you would normally do.

But since the players would first log into steam in order to play a steam game, then those customers are instantly in what can only be described as the biggest game store on earth.

So while they may not get much in the way of currency from selling one copy of your game, they will defiantly make a ton of money from all the other games that they tempt you to buy.

in reality though I would be concerned for you guys if you did get on steam.  You could barley handle the tiny influx of Eve's player base which is a game of only a few hundred thousand accounts, put yourself infront of the several millions of Steam customers and you will melt down, instantly.

seems to me that if the success of this game is dependent on it getting onto a digital distribution network like steam, then I imagine taking a plane to Valve head quarters and banging on their doors until someone says something would be better than repeatably sending emails.

I Like INDA!  (but not in a gay way)

Yes, the current low population means that the majority of the corporations will only be able to hold one outpost. If you are able to see this objectively, there is nothing wrong with it.

I also feel like some of you think there is stability 100 and nothing else. Stability 100 is not something we intended to be commonplace, if one corporation can reach it, it means they achieved total domination in the area. Which is exactly what Intrusion 2.0 was designed for.

Then maybe a bit more flexibility with the system is needed that relates to 'server population'  when server population is low, then things like time between saps being shorter or longer?

It seems like, as you say, you've designed a system which is intended to be the same regardless of population, and indeed is more appropriate for a considerably larger population!

Since anyone with the common sense that god gave a fish can see, Avatar creations appear to be purposefully keeping the population low, or rather, purposefully not trying to increase it (which is the same thing) then why not make the system a but more flexible so that its enjoyable for the current population and increase it as and when population does increase.

Why not, take some numbers on the current biggest corps/alliances and set it so that total domination is possible for that size of organization + 25%.

So that its still difficult for any current organization to achieve total domination of one outpost, but not completely unachievable as you have it now.

As you say, however it works now maybe "intended" but maybe its only "intended" for a high population, unless of course you 'intend' to have a much higher population very soon, which is overly optimistic bordering on delusional.

Though to be fair, Theledocia did get some pretty big buff's, especially with their 'crit rate' and with Nuimqol getting such a kick in the teeth, Yellow bots have been the flavor of the month and it was bound to see some kind of balancing.

But I do agree,  its unacceptable to make such drastic, far reaching changes to skills without the opportunity to un-do decisions on EP spending based on facts which were true at the time.

I think we all sympathize pokk and its understandable.

I especially agree with your second point, I still feel the way dev's treat players with the 'complete silence' regarding the 'low player population' problem to be appalling and disrespectful.   It feels like they dont actually care about obtaining new players, let alone retaining existing ones.

Even a politician will say "no comment" or "we cant discuss it"..  but to walk on by and completely ignore it, especially to patrons who have remained so loyal for so long, makes leaving a very easy decision to make.

The problem with completely unknown SAP times is that it would essentially mean the death of large scale battles because there would never be enough time to prepare a large squad.

8-16 hours notice would still probably mean that the 100-200 aside battles will be extremely rare now, and some will be glad of that,  but 16 hours is enough to prepare sizable squads and good sized combat battles for which sandbox's are known for.

But it does also mean a lot more skirmish sized battles and with the ever-present dangers more 'combat readiness' will be essential

An interesting mechanic addition to intrusion 2.0 for sure.

Im working on a theory that there is a much greater chance of the elites spawning in the first hour of farming.

after then, it seems to get lower and lower.

Some claim that if this were the case they would tell us, but I doubt it.

So, if you wanna help test the theory,  farm for an hour then move to another spot. see if that helps

Yea, Eve is infinite space.

But you are right.. until perpetuum came along, Eve was the only game that offerd that.

Another thing which no game does is retain market data for 12 months...  Single server.. etc

its why the Database gets really really big and needs daily down times, presumably, should that happen to PO they would also need some kind of regular database maintenance.

all online games will be f2p in the future - deal.

Hopefully their dev studio is more interested getting players than this one is - signed.

im not normally one to fap about colours, but generally everything does indeed look washed, drab and very dull.

You can partly overcome this using digital vibrance settings in the NVIDIA windows driver (dont know about ati)

When Ive put some photoshop filters on screen shots there is even more, especially in the way of lighting contrast.

it just seems to me like they need to adjust some of the filters and modify some textures just slightly and it would see some immediate improvments.

similar comments where made about Eve after its first year and look at it now.

If it should go free to play, or if something changes where you can justify it, then you will have missed out.

Its your loss, is all that can be said.

I understand why they do it, even I dont like it.

I dont want to have to be dependent on another account or another player, but it is a multi player game and understand that they want to reward organisations of players who work together.

This is especially true for a sandbox where the content is derived from its players.

But the down-side is that sandbox games are inherently 'pay to win' even without a cashshop, if you have more accounts at your disposal then you give yourself more options and makes you less dependent on other players.

No doubt re-balancing will be called for on the introduction of new modules, bot types, classes and functions.

http://www.perpetuum-online.com/Changelog:2011-09-22

Change: Increased the number of minimum loot items in beta island artifacts to 3-5-7, for I-II-III artifacts respectively.

Change: Reduced the drop chance of CPU cortexes.

Reduced cortex drop rates... increased Beta island drop rates increase...

You should also note..

Change: Removed 25% Mk2 CTs from beta artifacts. Level 1 can now contain 50% CTs, level 2 50% and 75% with low chance, and level 3 beta artifacts contain only 75% CTs.

If you want more reward, you have to accept the fact that you need to take more risk.

er..guys.

They did alter the spawn rates of artifact contents, or did you miss that memo?

Why, is 62nd gonna have an influx of 20 new active players?

lol!  lol

But srsly.  It seems the only way to get such a battle is to attend an intrusion that you've not signed up for at the most inconvenient time possible.

With i2.0 SAP's will appear randomly, and so there will be little chance to prepare a large-scale battle by anyone.

so.. cmon guys if you want to experience such an event time is rapidly running out.
