Great ideas....

I think some kind of interference would be cool that increases all bots masking by alot while in it....

Also Doek, I think you forgot to calculate green bots or specifically the Tyranos bonus in Accumulator recharge time.

I can see Energy Management is used, but the 5% * Robotics Level is not currently working, at least in the case of the Tyranos.

In all honesty it wont matter if you allow alliances or not. All in all the Power house blobbed-corps/alliances will be able to lock down 1 island have at least their staging point at 100% or near 100% all the time and be able to control the rest of the island so others can't dock. Along with being able to make it living hell for corps on connecting islands to be able to control docking. You will get the corps and people that will do everything possible to be able to and the ones that don't want to band together.

A while back, I proposed an idea on IRC. A couple more "mini" size beta islands for smaller corps to take an hold, so they would not have to join an alliance to live on beta.

These islands would be smaller, have less recources etc making them less desirable to large corporations / alliances.

Problem is at the moment, adding more space to beta spreads people out more. So really we would need more players before something like this could be added.

The whole 1 size fits all outpost thing is a bit silly.

EDIT: even an island with 3 mini islands with choke points would be nice.

Faction stores would actually be a nice bolster to the usefulness of missions. Granted that the stores offered items that you could only get in the stores. This would actually add a nice venue to get distracted with. It would also provide a bigger emphasis on choice if the factions all had their own style of items that they offered. This way people would be vying for a faction's rep for more than just using whatever terminal they want to manufacture/research out of. In example, maybe Pel/greens have nice launchers, mods that altered launchers for special buffs/debuffs or something else that plays off their strengths.

At the very least being able to buy items that modify production of normal items with said buff/debuff. Or Maybe there could be a post manufacturing process where you could use consumables on the items to give them a specific buff/debuff, so you don't cut out manufacturing.

Its tricky though, how do you make reputation worthwhile to both combat and industry?

The grind is very long so it seems like forever, and yes indeed they do, as Advanced tile scans are only available through mining missions.

Edit: Although they don't have to do it on beta, but they are also not equip'd from an EP standpoint to defend themselves on beta.

Essentially though to get PvP ammo on beta, you are running hauler missions which means your combat skills will not help you really. So its not like EP will do you any good there.

Of course you can do this as a group I guess with EP combat chars, but its alot more organization going on and moving through hostile territory for the reward.

I think at the very least the mission to get these ammo should not involve a sequer or hauling... should involve combat.

Faction ammo is simply as you stated, a reason for combat players to run missions since they don't care about the rep and the NIC reward is low.

They don't want it to be easily produced because it's actually very effective in PVP, much more so than player built ammo. If it was producable, beta corps would mass produce it and use it exclusively, and never run another mission.

Do industrial players keep having to grind rep and missions after they are done? I think its a bit unfair to have to keep grinding missions on potentially hostile beta in a sequer just to get some ammo.

We should at least be able to buy it, say 1K per ammo if we have the rep..

So no one understands this mechanic? Devs? Anyone? What is the purpose of this?

Doek, you are my hero.

BTW, aux accumulator currently do not add on to your accumulator capacity

I know this post is rather old, but I'll throw in my 2 cents anyway.

I recently cross trained missile bots, because the area I am in has lots of hills, and I wanted to be able to switch over my main damage type.  As an average skilled player, with an average fit (no t4 everything and tons of crap in my hanger to play with fits), I have to say, the range sucks.  Really sucks.  Where with my Artemis I can lock at 500+ km, begin firing around 300+m, with a Tyrannos I can still lock at range, but optimal even with a range extender is still only about 270.  That's the same head slot fittings, 2 sensor amp t1, a t3 extender, a damage mod.  And don't get me started on the damage.  it seems that even with my missile skills being comparable to my turret damage skills, the damage is lower by at least a third, at a lower rate of fire.

Again, average skills, average fit, not the best perhaps but then I don't spend hours on end doing the math, I play the game.

Medium ballistic missiles have a base range of 270, but do 70 damage instead of 105 and also have a bigger explosion size.

The market is fine, I can find pretty much whatever I need on it, even T3/T4 stuff.

Its growing as well, you just need to use the "Terminals Near Here" option and go there to pick up what you need. Maybe when the game grows enough you won't have to do that, but as of now yes it is required.

Saying that all corps do not sell stuff on the external market is false. Even ATG, a communist corp sells stuff on the market as a means of income to help buy materials / modules we cannot produce.

I think you are blowing this way out of proportion OP.

Is this supposed to be a reason to control/fight over a certain island, so you have easy access to said bot types faction ammo to be more viable in PvP?

I don't really understand the logic of having to go into hostile corporation territory with a sequer to grind missions for said mega corporation to get ammo.

Wouldn't it make more sense to grind the rep, then just buy the ammo for a large price or have players with enough rep be able to purchase CT's to manufacture them so the player economy is not bypassed?

Not QQing here, I just really am having a hard time wrapping my mind around this mechanic and what it is supposed to accomplish yikes

So that's probobly why the price is so low, its mainly mined by the people who use it so very little demand. I was just saying I feel bad for the people who mine it to sell it... way better stuff even besides epitron that sells for much higher prices.

Maybe I'm missing something obvious but the prices for a lot of ores don't make much sense.

Back when I was a newb my second day in with two miners, I sold maybe 160u of Titan and then never mined it again because it was such a waste of time

Who are the suckers who actually mine titan ore? I feel sorry for them.

u mad brosef lol

The Hokkagaros highway from Nauwy has impassable terrain for heavy mechs.

TBQH I actually liked Hokk before the changes more even though the highways are nice.

I am at the same crossroads myself, but I decided to start investing in Mechs. The downside is when roaming, I will never be able to use my Tyranos, so I will never see the EP I spend in mech specific stuff while roaming. The upside is with the intrusion changes, being able to defend certain points on a daily basis will be extremely useful when responding to attackers or when launching mech based attack forces.

If you wan't to roam and use mechs, the only option is a Kain. Tyranos/Artemis simply cannot keep up. If you don't think you will be defending/attacking anything and just want to randomly roam, stick with an assult since you are pelistal.

"The Pelistal Empire’s industrial might is leveraged nowhere so much as in the production of Castels and of Tyrannos. Like the Castel, the Tyrannos is a cold, methodical machine of war, content to win battles through endurance and attrition - the Pelistal’s credo. Driving legions of Castels and Waspish ahead of it, a Tyrannos is truly a tyrant of the battlefield. Until the arrival of the Kain, the Tyrannos feared little, and even with the Kain’s arrival, the Tyrannos still represents a ruthless presence, willing to sacrifice itself without a thought to annihilate a foe."

/me waves his fist in anger at the kain

The demand was already high, and since communist beta corps don't need NIC as CIR loves to proclaim, where does this leave alpha players, especially industrial players that we need to support for a healthy and functional market?

1. One less way to get a small amount of epi if they spent alot of time farming
2. Little to no supply of epi on the market for them to buy due to the corps on beta being largely communist

This may be great for people looking for new pets but its not good for the alpha dwelling industrial corps of the game.

I don't understand this thread... I doubt beginners will be competing with new players for a long time on the market due to the kernel nerf. Actually, the first players had an easier time than these new players will have.
