So here's the contradiction;

On one hand we are telling new players that EP and extension levels aren't that important, and you can still be productive in the PVP game. On the other hand, there's the conception that mis-placing a couple thousand EP is game breaking and requires an EP reset. Even if it's 10,000EP; it's just a week's time. If you can't make up a week's worth of mistake, then the 'premise' that new players can be effective is completely false.

Those are called LIES and anyone telling newbies that is hurting the game since they will leave once they realize they have no chance without months of EP (by dying and losing probably nearly all they have, instead of having honest players tell them).  Newbies are only effective in the blob where they are extra targets and can overwhelm with sheer numbers.

It doesn't matter where you look; from the light bot tournament to the mech/ewar duo and solo roamers, their EP is as much if not more of a factor than their gear.

You will notice that the players saying EP doesn't matter are *always* the ones who have quite a bit to spare; a large majority of which have already used their free reset to fix any mistakes they made.

What does more EP mean? It means you can move faster hit harder and faster at longer range and fit more and better gear.  How this could not be seen as a the huge factor it is, especially for newbies, is just dishonesty for easy kills in my view.  It's very much do as I say not as I do (aka hypocrisy on a level that is often reserved for politicians and priests)

I guess I don't see the value in Perpetuum Crossfire/Jerry Springer outside "ratings"

Particularly if there can be a DEV on the panel, I'd like to know what they think rather than listen to "You're a Blob newb!" "No, You're a Blob newb" "You just dock up and sit at your OP" "No you just sit at your OP"

All of which is demonstrably true of almost everyone.  I still think the first thing I listed is most important however.  A PVP game without any PVPers is shut down PVP game.

when changing ammo types about 33% of the time right click -> mousing over change ammo stalls and forces you to click off and re-right click to get the sub menu for the actual ammo type to display.

I saw a Perpetuum banner on MMORPG.com today:D  Not sure how long they have been advertising with them but I do visit there like daily.  Money well spent IMO!

Youtube next perhaps?  TV spots seem too expensive at this time.

weeks  ...  if they had Hulu ads there would be thousands of newbs in day .. just look at what it did for Rift and that game isn't half as good as this one.

Artemis's are not benefiting from 2 sensor amps the way a Kain does, or at least the display text for locking range isn't changing I didn't actually test it in the field.

Post 'expansion' patch, sometimes the client freezes when logging in now and has to be killed and restarted.  It does not give an error or anything, I've seen it happen both with correct and incorrect passwords.  This never happened at all previously.

Still getting the stuck-after-teleport bug about .. 15% of the time upon landing and have to re-log to fix it.  I've been told that activating a module resets it but I haven't verified that.

EDIT: This is all off the top of my head, I'll add more when I think of them.  I keep hearing that people aren't reporting bugs so I will.

that's what i'm saying, it's not faster or anything else, there is no benefit to using it at all.

same cost, same time to make, same result; everything the same between lvl 1 and lvl 2.

I reported the first one to a GM who said he would let people know but just in case I'm going to post it again.

1.) The markets in range tab is showing buy orders that don't exist at the terminals they're listed at.  Not sure if it has to do with expiration or what but I found out the hard way going to sell stolen noralgis at TMA that there were no buy orders there and then at ICSA the orders posted were for less NIC then what markets in range was showing.

2.) I just did a side by side comparison of Reverse Engineering lvl 1 at ICSA and RE lvl 2 at Galoly.  They give *exactly* the same results.  I used a lvl 7 decoder, 1000 medium slugs and I have 30% time ratio from RE extensions and 10% relation rep with blue (using my industry account not this one).

agree, +1, nice work AC

I was wondering if anyone has tried the Linux/Codeweavers installation?

I'm running Red Hat 5 Enterprise and I keep getting a few errors:

"Perpetuum requires 2.0 vertex shaders for optimal performance. Do you want to continue?"

I select "Yes"

then I get "Perpetuum requires 2.0 pixel shaders for optimal performance. Do you want to continue"

I select "Yes"

then I get "Error while initializing DirectX!"

I click continue and it crashes.  I do have an older NVidia GeForce 7300 in my linux box, but according to the NVidia website this card does support 2.0 shaders.  Anyone have any ideas?

FAQ says it's supports shader model 3

which is backwards compatible.. you're probably missing dependencies like their propreitary binary only nvida drivers

not different, happens all the time, big spikes or going to N/A, disconnects, etc.  seems the same to me.

I did a reset on a character this morning who has been sitting in squad doing squad missions all day .. it shows gains in the relation tab but is still sitting at 0% when you look at the factories/refineries etc although it's still changing the delta it's not displaying properly.

EDIT: re-logging doesn't fix it.

but my email account is allready used, theres no way to delete that whole account and make a new one.

You could ask them to remove it for you with the customer support email, since you're on a trial they probably would *shrug*.

Riptear wrote:

ok thx for the quick replys, would it help if i reset acount and made a new avatar without the mistakes ? or does the EP only work for the avatar that had it

EP is account wide.  if you reset you get all of it back.  but don't do it more than once unless you want a 20% hit on the total each time.

and since you're on the trial you should probably just try to stick it out a bit or re-register if you want a fresh start w/o having to worry about losing 20% of your EP when you wanna reset again in a few months.

I know we don't have full POS in game yet.

But we do have the start of them and those would be the incubators.

I would like to see a POS panel that would display information for each incubator you have planted.

The info should show the amount of cycles for each incubator and the ability for you to double click it and show you it's location on the world map.

This panel can be extended later for other POSs' in the future.

First, I'm not sure what POS is, I'm assuming this is an Eve term since it's not listed here and probably means Player Operated Structures (?) in this context (I never played Eve but I've seen plenty of video and read about the game and I know there are Player made/operated stations so this is my best guess).

I see potential problems with this, particularly, that an item like this would be tied in to the new event notification system.  If that's the case it would be trigger alarms every time someone touches a plant which essentially kills the plant-pirate mini game.

Even if it's not trigger events I can see people sitting there with an alt monitoring the panels to make sure the numbers are going up (growing cycles) not down.

I see the idea of having panels in the ground that have to be a certain distance away. That's not bad, other solutions might be a timer on info, say instead of a constant stream of info it updates every 15 or 30 minutes, or maybe even some form of mini game similar to artifact scanning or based on the can codes something like, the panel has a 2 digit code and you get 5 guess per 24 hours and if you get it right it shows the plant locations and if you guess wrong on the 5th try it sets off an event trigger in the notification log with a tone and does the same thing after 30 seconds if you stop guessing in the middle and notifies the owner.

Certainly there is potential for something to be implemented that doesn't take anything away and adds to the game to make it richer.

Sorry for OT, but that's the reason I will always stay with Windows as for playing games I do not want to deal with scripts that only work for whatever specific specifitaions of this and that...

It's free.  AC wants you to buy Cedega for $30 to play the client everyone else gets free.

The way they wrote the post it appears that regen is cut in half.  There is a lot of titan on beta so if they move all of it over that will be tons.  Will the player base increase?  The active player base will in the *short term* definitely increase.  There are probably 3x or 4x as many active un-played accounts as there are players, maybe more.

I think we'll also see a huge increase of ore on the market and the prices will drop through the floor *short term*.  Once it's gone the regen nerf comes in and people start having to hunt and peck.  I don't think this will affect beta corps at all.  I've already seen more rivelers on alpha than I've ever seen, it seems like people are working on depleting the easy spawns first.

It's true that we don't have all the patch data, but as it relates to mining, we have a fair amount.

they're all my alts, i'll do that, thanks

(seems like a stupid unnecessary undocumented pre-requisite ;P)

EDIT: tested; it works, thanks again.

It doesn't work.  The waypoint never shows up on the guy it's sent to, even when docked at the same terminal (all in squad) nor is any notification sent/received/confirmation asked etc.

i missed the 3rd one so i just finished listening to that one and i'm listening to the 4th one now.

well done guys, love the interviews, i like that they're pretty long too i like to listen bored at work or while i'm playing so plenty of time.

thanks for doing them. ;D

PS: I think the comments about making things even further away = fail; this ain't Eve and if it turns in to it it will lose what few people are left. wink

change for the sake of change isn't always good arga, it's just different and can easily be worse

Cullyn wrote:

In fact I agree, there are important changes to economy necessary to avoid having everybody using end-game equipp after few weeks.

Problem is, a) the "Old" corps allready have full stocks, so they don't care much about that change for the next weeks
b) that a gang of T4 equipped PvPler rules and therefore "new" players will never have a chance to come to a point where they can compete with equippment.
A 5-man Corp gets no chance to mine epitron and therefore has no reasonable access to the bots necessary to compete. Especially since the modification on EW-Mech neding Epitron and T4 equip needing Noralgis. This means the new player are forced to work as "slaves" for the old and established corps on beta for a long time to be on a compareable equipment level which would allow them to participate in PvP on a reasonable base.

To get this corrected you should not start with reducing access to T4 equip, but reduce effectiveness of the available equipment and introduce new  equippment which is really rare, so the gap between new corps and old corps closes instead of growing any further.

It is not good for the game if a player after 2 months has still no chance participating in the most part of the game without beeing either full member of an old corp or participate as silly target.

Post is 2 1/2 months old (slightly older than my main) and still true. QFT +1

The way it's worded makes it sound like they're increasing the rate of gain 50% while reducing the regen of the ore by the same .. I'm not sure how this could be looked at as anything but a further mining nerf.

This will make it so much easier to kill fields and have them take weeks to grow back, and Beta corps will for sure descend like a plague of locusts and suck up everything they can now before they head home.

There is no reason why a Beta corp can't afford to have another set of mining bots on alpha for strip mining and not even have to move their fleets.  This will go very poorly for Alpha corps/soloists/small corps and not help the market the way I think they think it will.

I don't think this would be nearly as bad if all the Alpha ores hadn't already had deposits cut in half.  I wonder what research they did that indicated removing Titan from Beta would some how be an economic stimulus.  The reasoning seems very weak from where I'm sitting.

They seem to be doing okay in English so far this thread.
