Topic: Incoming Transmission Podcast #7 - Player Panel

The first attempt at a player panel was well intentioned and both Gremrod and myself thought we might end up having to let people down in order to keep the number of panellists to a sensible and manageable number. Unfortunately, we got caught out by that horrible thing called real life and got caught short. Podcast #5 still went ahead, we discussed a variety of topics with Styx from M2S and have received some very good feedback.

So, here as promised, is the startup for podcast #7, tentatively named "Perpetuum Player Panel, now with added panel members!" smile

The principles, rules and guidelines are below. The aim of this is to get the views of different players across the game world and not have it end up as a slanging match.

  • Panellists must be able to use Skype and speak clearly in English

  • The podcast will be recorded at 2100 GMT+1 on Sunday 12th June and it will take around 2 hours

  • The panel will be split into 4 approximately 15 minute segments covering 4 topic areas

  • Each member of the panel will get a chance to comment on the topic and reply to the other panel members in each segment; we will aim to give each panellist the opportunity for first comment

  • Should we get sufficient response, we will aim to send out the topics for discussion to the panellists ahead of time

  • Each member will get a 2 minute close down period at the end of the podcast to reflect and offer a final opinion without interference from anyone (even Grem and myself)

  • The aim is to keep the podcast to an 80 minutes maximum length

  • Gremrod and myself will act as chair persons, we will mute or cut off discussion if required to keep things civil

  • This is a mature, repectful discussion, everyone will have a different view and those views should be respected as you would wish your own to be, anyone on the podcast straying past the bounds of civility may be removed

  • This is an adult oriented podcast and as such there will be a level of adult language used, this however must be kept within certain bounds and we reserve the right to edit as required to keep things constructive

  • We try not to heavily edit the podcast post recording to try and keep the flow and energy of the recording. This will also mean that any corrective action Grem or myself have to take to keep things civil may be kept in and may end up being broadcast to all and sundry. Panellists should conduct themselves accordingly

  • Topic ideas are invited from the community. Consider that the panel will hopefully be made up of differing factions/opinions so please keep ideas to general game topics rather than "I think x is a crap corps, what does everyone on the panel think". That type of topic will NOT be discussed

  • Composition of the panel is open to anyone wanting to put their opinion out there. Please either post here on the forum or contact Grem or myself

  • The panel will have a maximum of 4 members plus Grem and myself, if we do get a larger number of volunteers, Grem and myself reserve the right to pick the composition of the panel in order to provide the most interesting debate. Anyone not chosen this time will be put at the top of the list for future panels

Overall, we want this to be an interesting and informative panel for the benefit of the community. As they say, variety is the spice of life and we certainly want to encourage this with Perpetuum. Please post questions, ideas, topics, offers to sit on the panel below and we will try to answer and respond as best we can.

Discuss!!!!!

Re: Incoming Transmission Podcast #7 - Player Panel

I'd like to reserve a seat for a 62nd representative that can behave in an adult manner. I'm use to much debate during the day and can separate myself from politics. I'm interested in putting forward ideas about gameplay mechanics that benefit the populace for our style of play.

I will however concede our seat if it helps make the table represent a proper or more round spectrum of gameplay views in the game.

Thanks for the opportunity, and I and my members can help with ideas etc.
62nd.

Here are some ideas:
(I'll add more as I go)

Innovation - What can we do as a community to provide something different in an open pvp game? What steps/direction must we take in order to break the mold that is ongoing from other open mmorpgs? Can we as a community make steps to do this, or are we just going to encourage the same repeadative gameplay that has been ongoing in other games for years( ie hold land with your name on it, defend land with name on it, get zerged, loose land, retake land etc ).

Intrusions - The intrusion timers are awful. It's supposedly fair, but during work days and at work nights at 2 am is unreasonable. Is there a better system?

Re: Incoming Transmission Podcast #7 - Player Panel

Topic Ideas:

1.)  I would like to see panelists from both of the major Beta alliances, and m2s, with some panelists from Alpha only corporations and possibly some of the new big ones like FOOM, AET and SUNDER discussing why they're not pursuing Beta access and what kind of incentives or penalties would need to be implemented to get them out there.

In my opinion, there is way too much wasted Beta space at the moment while Alpha has seen a big population increase; even from established Beta corporations (I've personally spent many, too many, hours roaming beta islands just to either find no one at all or a couple mechs/heavy mechs sitting under stations and no one anywhere else).

As an addendum, I'd like to know what impact the 'expansion' and particularly the free time on inactive accounts has had on the aforementioned corporations and their numbers and strategies.  It's easy to see where some people have gone, and why, but other corps seem to present a less clear picture or none at all.  I've also noticed that, with today being the last day of the free 15 days on inactive accounts, the average number of accounts online is above where it was before.  However Beta remains a ghost town as stated.

2.)  What role do lights/assaults play? Are they even necessary for anything at all (outside ewar)?  How could they be changed or the game changed to make them viable?

3.)  Ewar is very strong on every level in this game, particularly demobs/ecms/neuts, do people feel that it needs some diminishing returns as are in virtually every other MMO?  What about with regards to npcs?  It's very common to see newbies complaining in General and Help about how strong Ewar bots are, even Ewar from bots that aren't technically Ewar as many combat npcs have demobs/neuts/drainers as well, is there too much?

Other idea:  I'd *LOVE* to see a DEV sit in to comment/answer questions/give an idea of game direction with regards to the above topics as well.  It's well known that several of them actively listen to the podcasts and it would certainly be more personable than rare blog updates.

Re: Incoming Transmission Podcast #7 - Player Panel

A discussion on game balance may be a good topic for a normal podcast however not for ITP #7. You'll have the opportunity to speak to a number of people live and should exploit this fact. What I'd like to see are some real pressing questions posed that get the recipients hot under the collar. I don't want to know what people on the podcast think of game balance, that gets discussed daily and is nothing new. I want to know something I didn't already and hear some controversial or dramatic opinions, discussions or arguments.

That's IMO anyway.

Oh, and if you'd like me on again drop me a line.

Re: Incoming Transmission Podcast #7 - Player Panel

I guess I don't see the value in Perpetuum Crossfire/Jerry Springer outside "ratings"

Particularly if there can be a DEV on the panel, I'd like to know what they think rather than listen to "You're a Blob newb!" "No, You're a Blob newb" "You just dock up and sit at your OP" "No you just sit at your OP"

All of which is demonstrably true of almost everyone.  I still think the first thing I listed is most important however.  A PVP game without any PVPers is shut down PVP game.

Re: Incoming Transmission Podcast #7 - Player Panel

This does sound pretty interesting

Proverbs 23:20-21 warns us, “Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat, for drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags."

Re: Incoming Transmission Podcast #7 - Player Panel

I would recommend one panelist from each alliance -- however this may prove a small panel with the recent formation of "New, New Hope"

Re: Incoming Transmission Podcast #7 - Player Panel

No Jerry Springer antics (although finding our Jita is really the love child of Styx and Syndic would be awesome) we hope to have a good discussion.

62nd are definitely in, much respect there. M2S have a slot and I think the community would be happy to accommodate a number of different representatives. I encourage other players and alliances to step forward. There is a lot going on in this game and having the views of other gamers will be important. This is a golden opportunity to have constructive, mature debate on the state of the game. If people truly want this game to grow, it is our duty to support e open dialogue. The offer is there, it is for the community to waste if people don't step up.

i hope so. But yes if I were to go Id keep my views neutral and be mature about it. There is a time and place for other things such as this forum.

Re: Incoming Transmission Podcast #7 - Player Panel

I would like to participate, representing FOOM, a fairly large new corporation in the community.

So will this show now be delayed to talk about the Epic Purge?

Re: Incoming Transmission Podcast #7 - Player Panel

of course it will, but people like you cannot attend, you would never have a neutral stance on things I can imagine, I could be wrong, please quote me if I am. The podcasts are not for egos and told you so's Crep...

Re: Incoming Transmission Podcast #7 - Player Panel

If someone got busted for cheating, of course there's going to be bias. Why spare cheaters the shame? Everyone who didn't cheat deserves their say and I doubt there's anything positive to say about cheaters. When you're competing with others and someone tries to take advantage of an exploit to beat you, that's just downright shameful.

This is a game, people need a dropkicking for trying to ruin others fun by such loathable tactics.

Re: Incoming Transmission Podcast #7 - Player Panel

I think they cancelled the player panel for cast 7?

Re: Incoming Transmission Podcast #7 - Player Panel

I too am wondering if the exploit and the subsequent actions taken by the devs will be a main point to talk about. I don't want to wait for next sunday on that.

Reset each other yet?

Re: Incoming Transmission Podcast #7 - Player Panel

We will take a long hard look at what is going on and try to come up with something. Stay tuned folks!

Re: Incoming Transmission Podcast #7 - Player Panel

Sorry to be so pushy, but you have momentum now, and I've seen way too many community services fade to oblivion after 'taking a break'; especially so soon into development. I'm relieved to see you continuing uninterrupted.
