This thread has gotten way way off topic, and to reiterate the original point made by the OP, people not in your squad should not be able to activate beacons and steal your loot. You can argue till you're blue in the face, but Tamas isn't botting, and Syndic's pals are following him around trying to grief him by activating the beacons. We all know how CIR/77th like to grief people on alpha, which is why the RED npcs are gone from alpha (so you have yourselves to thank for macro miners being completely safe on alpha now.... /applause).

Everything else being discussed in this topic is fluff that needs to be deleted, and their own topic opened.

You should really qualify that statement, more like this "2-3 months old, and useful as cannon fodder in a much larger gang of people with well over 1m skill points".

1 alpha spark, 1 beta spark, 1 gamma spark (when it's implemented again).

Problem solved.

So what would happen in a group setting where someone with a few friends are farming npcs, who gets the loot then?

What would happen with the can, since like a lot of people, the character that kills doesn't always loot the can. (I.e I have a hauler who loots cans while my combat guy shoots the npcs).

What about the remote rep/energy transfer/nexus guys who provide valuable assistance in npc farming, how would they be able to attain the tokens?

Just a few of the issues I could think of, but more to the point, how do these tokens fit into a time based progression game like Perpetuum? New players coming in already have a huge advantage versus guys who started the game years ago, as they can buy boosters and essentially get to the same place in half the time as the vets that payed a monthly fee for years.

It's easy to dismiss "morals" in game when you have none. This isn't nor has it ever been about "if I can't do it then you can't either" as you put it. I could give a *** less about Initia, and as far as I know the only reason JOKE had any intrest in it at all was for sentimental reasons. Your effort to turn this back around on us to make it seem like we would have abused transport missions the way you have is more of what I have come to expect from you. This is just a spin on the same argument of "everyone else does it!" You're just adding "if you could have you would have".

Just to get a point across, I'll type this is simple words your feeble mind can understand. NOT. EVERYONE. IS. A. CHEATER. LIKE. YOU.

umm..  Seths.. Poof...  Morale High Ground?  I think not.

If the best character assassination you can come up with is that this one time, when I jumped thru a gate, I crashed and my seth survived because of a bug, then why don't you look to me as a shining beacon of purity. Every single one of you have committed egregious acts too numerous to mention. So, yeah... standing tall on my moral high ground, looking down at you with disgust in my eyes. From now on, ask of yourself before you commence griefing some noob, or abusing ingame mechanics, or any number of shady tactics... "What would our Shining Becaon of Purity and Righteousness Smokeyii do?"

Pathetic little maggots.

I remember when I was in RG back when the game first came out it was discovered you could take and then abort transport missions by the 100's -- and you didn't even have to do it on a toon that was eventually going to run the missions. It was discussed by high command, and the consensus was that WE wouldn't abuse it. The choice to abuse ingame mechanics is and has always been your own. If the best excuse you can come up with is that everyone does it, then you need to spend some time reflecting on your own morals. If 1,000 people *** your mother, does it make it ok, since everyone did it?

Go ahead and show me how shallow you are morally and argue that playing a game is nothing like ***, and how your actions are somehow not as bad because.... wait for it.... everyone else did it.

It wasnt an exploit roll, even the devs said so. Their knee jerk patch is a bad fix. Makes it too much a hassle to do any pve on beta.

Perpetuum is up for 15% off.

Good to know - thanks all! I guess I'll be sticking to alpha for a while.

PS: I think my experience with Rust is a good indication that FFA-PVP is not a fail. That game has been pretty successful and shows that open pvp doesn't mean being shot at on sight. Maybe part of it is the relatively small difference between strength/power. When you come up on someone it's hard to know if they are better than you so it might be in both people's interest to refrain from fighting. Maybe in Perpetuum the weaker party is so obviously weaker it becomes too good an opportunity to pass up.

There is that, but in all honesty, the vast majority of pvp is done by people who know who the other people are they're fighting, and very little of it is solo pvp. The games are really apples and oranges and hard to compare one to the other. Plus, many members in Perp's small community get their rocks off by what many would consider "griefing". Shoot first, ask questions later, is the general attitude of the pvp population here.

Lots of vets tried to tell the Devs to wipe the game for the steam launch. Personally, I'm all for it, and have been since forever. Lots of people know I love to pvp in my seths, but I'd really love the chance at starting over completely.

Give all lifetime accounts a special ingame/forum badge, 3 month free boosters, wipe the server and lets try this again, because it's not working as it is now.

The best argument I've seen AGAINST doing this I think was made by Stranger Danger -- Do you really want to be a part of a game that's time based and persistent that's been known to wipe years of achievements? -- Well, I think if it's explained properly, and used as a tool to get new players to join in on the ground floor, then my answer is YES.

Besides, they've already wiped years of progress for the sake of "Gamma is ugly."

But, lets be honest, we can talk about this till we're blue in the face (see the 50+ page SpT thread) and still, nothing will happen. The game is fun, pvp is some of the best I've ever experienced, and it's got a lot of positive attributes. The biggest things that take away from that though is the fact that new content is slow to non-existant, due to there being 3 guys working on this game in a basement in Hungary. Now, don't take this personally devs, I've got a lot of respect for what you've managed to achieve so far, and I really hope that someday it will achieve what it can achieve. The instant gratification crowd will never stick around for more then a few months, if that, considering what they have to look forward to.

Heavy Mechs - the biggest bots in the game for the past 3 years - take less than 2 months to get into and to be able to pilot descently. What's after that? Nothing.

I know this has been your baby for 10 years now, but maybe it's time to sell it to a team that can put the money into it to make it into something. Moving/upgrading the servers is a big step in the right direction, but this should have been done 3 years ago. The game needs a dedicated team of 50+ coders and artists to be able to meet the demands of new content required to keep people playing. You realize we've gotten 2 new bots in the past 3 years? Both of them haulers. There was mention years ago of possibly adding new classes of assaults specialized in certain areas. What about faction robots? Something shiny that vets can show off in, and new players can aspire to obtain?

It's been a fun ride with you guys these past 3 years off and on, and I know I haven't always been the most respectful person and have said some pretty *** stuff to you devs directly, but I will say thank you for all the memories and fun times I've had. I will probably never know how hard it is to create something from the ground up as you guys have as I'm far too lazy to ever attempt that, so I tip my hat in respect to you for trying.

Besides Gunner, we'll just use them to pvp you more, so what's the problem?

If nothing else, reimbursements wouldn't get the modules that dropped back, so you got your full loot anyways.

It's not like we won't rebuild and be back out there one way or another. May not be until the servers are moved though if all we have to look forward to is lagging out, disconnecting and logging back in to a station.

So, how about no timer on alpha, timer on beta/gamma.

*edit* hell, how about only on beta?

I rather like this idea. Remove the extension, refund the points and give everyone UP TO 5 sparks with no point value attached.

I think this thread has derailed so many times, but I think the major point in all of this was to stop people from being able to instantly spark somewhere and undock in combat bots. I can't count how many times in the past 6 months someone has pm'd me when out of game, I was able to log in spark to where I was needed and get on kills.

Some might argue that's a good thing, and while I'm not really complaining, I keep thinking of what it would be like from my perspective if STC had the cajones to do it to me. So there I am, under Asintec Beta and Burial undocks in his Kain Mk2 and I think to myself "OMMNOMNOM SOFTCOX KEEL" and start shooting him. Then, Burial starts screaming like the little girl he is deep down inside "OMGZ SMOKEYII GON KEEL MEH" and 12 other nutcuppers spark to Asintec Beta and all undock instantly and shoot poor Smokeyii. Smokeyii goes on the forums and complains that INSTANT power projection anywhere in NIA at any time for up to 10 places is massively OP for everyone.

Now, Dev Zoom, in his infinite wisdom decided that the best way to fix the problem with INSTANT power projection to up to 10 outposts anywhere on NIA was to say "OK, you can only haz 5, but we do it in a weird way that only makes sense to Hungarians". And guess what? We've still got people complaining about INSTANT power projection, only now the shoes on the other foot.

So, lets constructively come up with a FINAL solution to this. Please. Many good ideas have been batted around, and I still think the best solution to combat INSTANT power projection is to have a short undock timer after spark teleport while the systems realign or whatever. Perfect time to go take a leak, make a sammich, punch the dog, whatever.

There is something about your posts that make me want to take a fire axe to your skull.

Maybe the game has been going for years and has had people making rational and realistic suggestions. Maybe the devs have been working really hard to implement them among their own great ideas. Maybe they understand the deficiencies of their own game but unless bill gates comes along and gives them 200 coders and ten million dollars it has to be an ongoing work in progress.

The Devs in this game, HHN that they may be, listen and react more responsively than any game I've ever heard of. While I don't agree with every change the onward steady progress has been undeniable and given their small size and diet of basement toast it's remarkable that they had the will to go this long. I truly believe that we are around the dark side of the moon and on our way home, ready for entry.

I personally agree with you, and this has been discussed multiple times, with the devs saying multiple times that this isn't going to happen. See, game's been released for 3 years, and people have paid money all that time for EP.

Besides, people who've been playing all this time know what and how to rebuild if this was to happen. Noobs are still going to be at a massive disadvantage because none of them know anything about the game.

Movement has been an issue in this game since forever. All I can say is, Standard teleport beacons are your friend. They cost 50,000 nic each, and they're really really useful.

I personally would like to see a module or ability to teleport to a terminal ON ALPHA. Charge up time like a teleport, half hour or 1 hour cooldown. Kid falls down the stairs? No problem, hit the button and you're back to the terminal and can rush him to the hospitial.
