Meh...while I'm no huge Microsoft fan, on a Windows platform, I just use IE. It has lately had quite a few less security issues than FF and Chrome.

Re: Perpetuum Black Market eXchange (7 replies, posted in Recruitment forum)
Since that doesn't seem to be the direction its going, we'll just have to see this as emerging game play and let it run the course. I suppose the devs could be trolling us with the entire game, and it's all just a study in human market behviour for some school project.
Second Life is a giant troll that allows Linden Labs to watch furries doing the nasty together so I don't see what would be wrong with Perp-O being a troll that models global economics.

Mmm.. how do you get the 'tone' with sight?
I can answer that question!!! Here's a hyperlink to a chart even!
http://www.skin-whitening-product.com/s … chart.html
Using this chart you can determine your tone just by holding your hand near your screen. This will assist you in selecting correct cosmetic products that complement your natural beauty.

Better just to get rid of the overview, radar, and icons on screen.

Good suggestions.
It's a pity that suggestion number 6 would never show ranges beyond 30 meters for my bots...aside from line of sight which isn't really a factor either.

damn stop calling the game PO....
That information doesn't explicitly rule out PO as a common usage shortened name for the game. Personally, I sort of prefer PerpO. It makes me feel a bit like I'm calling it Purple, which is indeed one of the best colours in the world.

Re: PO Needs new players, here's how to keep me... (138 replies, posted in General discussion)
I honestly think the peacenicks of the MMO community are what make this the case. There are always a significant group who claim to hate it that they can't mine safely or that unpredictable spawns will freak out the newbies and scare them off. But it's exactly the totally safe stuff that gets boring. Absolutely everything needs to be dangerous and/or challenging or people get bored. It can be done, but a few tenacious paradigms need to be dropped: stuff like "click here, receive ore" and "farm lvl1 mobs, buy bigger gun, farm lvl2 mobs". I don't think anyone actually likes that stuff, but it's been stuck in the genre since at least Ultima.
I admit I'm in the same MMO rut that everyone else is in. I literally can't think of a way to make an MMO without some form or grinding being a part of it. I'm sure someone will eventually develop a revolutionary new formula that will fundamentally change how MMOs all are someday. We're not there yet though. In the meantime, we do have a lot of good games, but they have a similar "grind to get there" experience that is rather painful at times. I like there being risk associated with the stuff I do so if that aspect is changed in any game, I'm okay with it. There should be a reasonably safe place I can stand around doing nothing but chatting up friends though...terminals...docked...laying naked outside of the auction house...at Haven's bank...you get the idea.
This is true. But that framework still has to support interesting in-game experiences. And I don't think PvP should be the only place where the fun, the interaction, and the gameplay are the same thing. That's how it seems to me at the moment, though.
PvP should absolutely not be the only place where the fun is at. However players working together to do something whether it's against other players or not...that's what I'm getting at. Give me the tools I need to get some people together for a laugh and a good time and we'll do most of the rest. Perp's corps are a fine example, the ones that totally internalize production and consumption are driving their players by giving them "missions" and the associated rewards. While all those corps are doomed to fail when central economic management reaches a point of inefficiency, they're good stuff on a small scale and work as an example. The supply chain is totally internal and player-driven.

Re: getting familiar (15 replies, posted in General discussion)
Oh, err I wasn't really implying that someone would use medium guns on an assault to being with. Words...they made not enough sense when I wrote them. What I was getting at was the use of medium weapons on smaller targets would be the point at which the additional firepower would go from "enough" to "silly."
Clarity...not my strong suit, it seems.

I forgot to mention when I was giving Arga a hard time over Second Life....thanks for going live with the radio station. It takes effort, time, energy, and so forth to do this stuff for the community and it doesn't go unnoticed.
Yeah Arga, all you get are two lines...and I'm not leaving anyway. You will be disappointed to know that my minimalistic activities will continue to be a thorn in your side for the forseeable future.

Re: OBSERVER CITADEL ISLAND (17 replies, posted in Feature discussion and requests)
Why add PVE that is a challenge for Large corps? PVP, which is more challenging then PVE will ever be, is a better fit for large corps and have PVE for small groups and solo players.
Because some people want to do something that is a challenge but doesn't involve real players on the other side. Believe it or not, some of us feel that PvP is a waste of effort and no amount of incentive can sway that opinion. Consider the desolation of PvP areas in that other game and you'll understand the lack of broad appeal that it holds.
Observer Island translates into "Fast Research Island" for large corps.
Or a "Fast Research Island" for dedicated elite small corps that hunt smartly.
Don't get me wrong, I loved 25 man raiding in WoW, and I would probably form up a corporation specifically to go out and run something like this. The problem is more that PVP is kind of weak right now, and adding in another distraction for corps that are large enough to be doing beta PVP (living there) is just going to make PVP worse (less participation).
No offence, but 25 man raids turn into efforts in kitten herding, even when you're -not- slumming it with PUGs. And doing it for six hours at a time? Personally, I'd rather drop a deuce or maybe go get roaring drunk than deal with those after max level gear grinds.
Of course PvP is weak at the moment. It's weak because it has somewhat limited appeal. (see above, think empty nullsec) That's probably not going to really change much as alpha-huggers will far outnumber beta residents if the player distribution in other games is an example of the general MMO population distribution. I assert that such is the case.

Re: Market... or lack thereof. (131 replies, posted in General discussion)
While I agree with BugSplat's opening post regarding the fact that, if the market were a bikini, it'd be a tiny one indeed, I'm not sure that this is really game breaking for everyone. Yes, it's annoying not to be able to get anything I want from the market without having to travel a lot to find it or, sometimes just do without it, but that's not a huge show-stopper. I have to think about equipment, juggle reactor or CPU, or sometimes just do without. It's okay to not have everything at one's fingertips.
The market is wide open at the moment for savvy people able to find things to sell that are in demand. There's not very much competition so there's room for a little price gouging. Sure, corps are going to horde their own production capacity, but not everyone is doing that and it probably won't kill the game.
Besides, I like string bikinis and the market looks hot wearing one.

I thik he trademarked "later" not "Later" but if you're going to be kinky about it and use a capital L, then have the nerve to omit the underline...meh, who am I to argue that?

Plants should spawn the occasional corrosive cloud when hit.
NOOOOOO!!!! ... Well, okay sure.
Anyway, some great ideas in this thread! I'd love to see the planet itself has some influence on the outcome of events. In many cases, real battles have been won and lost thanks to the influence of weather. I'm looking at your Russian invasion attempts, Napoleon and that "other guy" who used to live Germany.

Re: PO Needs new players, here's how to keep me... (138 replies, posted in General discussion)
I'm sure there are lots of new, delicious improvements coming down the line that will mitigate some aspects of the game that are not quite there yet.
Hugh points out a sad, but true fact. I'd like to hop onto his rollercoaster for a moment to add that, almost regardless of how "fleshed out" a game becomes, many MMO activities are mindlessly repetitive. How long has stEVE had missions and how long have they been making new ones, to only throw scripted action-response based stuff at their players so go through new content, making it mindlessly boring almost as soon as it goes out the door? Why is crafting in WoW such a boring yawn-fest? Once you see something once, for the first time, the newness of it is gone and it becomes repetitive to do it a second time.
The point of the game, I think, is to enjoy the company of others while the mindless stuff happens. These sorts of games are a lot more about what the players are providing one another within the framework that the developers create than they are about relying exclusively on the framework itself to provide amusement.
