it's not a nic sink if no nic is removed, if it's player created and driven the nic circulates back into the economy.

Now, if you're talking about npc seeded orders, then yes, that would be a nic sink, and also detract a little from the sandbox.

So, light laser Chemo rounds do 48 damage against 4 stars. That's a Baph MK II, so subtract 23% (-3 T1 tuners and 8 % MK II Bot) bonus, puts it about 36 * 4 = 144 every 2.3 seconds after resist (assuming speed fit has no hardners). [62dps] That's with my skills and T4 light lasers.

T4 Med repper is 230/12 sec against 751/12 seconds. Thats 19 Hps vs 62 Dps, Kain would need 320% rep bonus to keep up. Assuming no LOS issues but also not counting the Critial hit bonus - may balance out.

T4 light laser's aren't terribly expensive. I would say a Kain without a stabilizer would be in trouble, and a second Kain without a stabilizer isn't going to help much either.

Of course, I would lose because I'm not good at PVP, but seems like the bot setup is capable of it.

Speed-kains would neither be wearing T4 Med Repper due to weight, or a stabilizer - again, due to weight. As I said, speed-kain = everything is sacrificed for speed.

Juan Valdez wrote:

Syndic, I'm not saying a t1 light bot should be able to solo a Kain or any other mech. Or that even a group of them should be able to kill one without taking heavy losses. I'm saying they should be able to catch it and fight it.

Mechs, especially when flown by richer and better skilled pilots, have huge advantages over light bots. They hit way harder, they have a vastly superior tank, and they have way more fitting capacity and accum. That's all fair. But they shouldn't be able to entirely avoid even taking damage from us noobs in our light bots even when we fit for speed. Thy shouldn't be able to effortlessly control range when our guns can't hit nearly so far.

No combat mech fit should be faster than a combat fit light bot, even our ghetto fits. Just like no light bot fit should be able to tank better or hit harder than a mech.

I don't mind dying. In fact, I embrace it! Death is glorious!

But at least let me have a chance, however slim, of killing him by letting me catch up to the bastard. Fair is fair!

The chance is there in the terrain & innate speed of the bot. T1 framed light bots faster then T4 mechs = how much faster will T4 framed light bots go? What will counter the T4 light bot swarm FOTM gangs?

But lets say this happens and T1 framed light bots are indeed, faster then all mechs. Should Zeniths with 500-600 meter S-demob range be nerfed as well since they demob outside of T1 light bot range? What about Ictus with 400-500 meter neuts/drains? 700 meter ECM's from a Vagabond? 600-700 meter Tyrannos range? How about Seths and their 100k+ effective hitpoints in a shield-tank and/or 800-900 meter Laser range?

Being faster then a T4 mech doesn't allow you anything then to run away much more quickly and potentially blow up a light EW tackle or two with impunity. There just isn't even a slim chance a bit of speed would give you anything. You will be demobbed by 900-1200 meters, rockets will start flying at 750 meters, ECM's will start bombarding at 650 meters, and then the whole nukedom will start coming down from there-on, going at 77+ kph speeds.

Stopped reading after the first paragraph.... Syndic has nightmares of the old Norhoop alliance *** gangs. I still think that's the best single point i've ever spent in my extensions, as rolling multiple mechs and light ewar tackle *hi cookie monsta!* with a few t4 framed laser fit yagels and a couple fast tacklers was some of the most fun i've had in this game.

proper fitting requires knowing what you're going to fight. If you're very highly specialized, and you know what you're doing you can fit some bots to have great attributes.

That being said, there's usually a counter to everything. The trick is bringing enough of the right amounts of the right things. when you figure out how, you'll win perpetuum....

At least until the next person figures out how to beat what you bring tongue

We need more information to go on then "i r beat 2v1 keins1!!" there lemon. I'm sure if they were fit properly, and werent piloted by noobs that cant afford percision firing 8 at least, they would have no trouble killing you.

Right now most of us new guys can only build t1 stuff, so that's all you're seeing us put on the market. In a few weeks we'll have saturated that and moved on to t2 and beyond. Prices will come down with the increase in manufacturers not tied to a single corp.

As the market becomes more liquid and dependable, hoarding gear and minerals in commiecorp style will become less and less useful. Why? Because doing it all in house is a pain in the butt, and it's a horrifyingly irritating distraction when your core competency is pvp. It just makes sense to have a few duders who haul stuff -- minerals, rat drops, etc -- out to a central market in a safe zone for sale, and come home with a bunch of mods and cash for use in DER WARZ. Plus it's way less organizationally demanding, so there's less chance of burnout or accidental errors, and makes it easier for new corps to form up and head out into pvp.

So while things are stuck in commieland inhouse production nightmares for now, the development of the primary markets in alpha will eventually develop to the point that none of it is necessary and corps can slim down and focus on what they like best: building, mining, killing, what have you.

The commie comments don't fit.

It's tribal/clan society where players team up and operate based upon specific goals of the group.  That isn't communism, that's getting someone else to help cover your *** and exchange things of value - among friendlies.

As for the market, it does need fixing being as it hurts getting new players into the game.

This "vet" attitude of "join a corp immediately" doesn't float.  You will want to join one but the RIGHT one, not any corp that will have you.  Different groups have different personalities and what they find or don't find acceptable.  Try swearing a bit in some corporations and you'll get booted - others? Every other word.

One of the worst things in EVE are those that sit in NPC corporations.  Alts there can work but players staying there - few of them stick around.  Worse still is joining a BAD FIT corporation - those players don't last even as long as the ones that stay in the NPC corporations.

Being as this game is quite PvP centric - the idea of "corp hopping"... spies, thieves, etc.  Not a good deal so shopping carefully for a right fit will be important because a bad fit will make the game look lame as the community then appears "too rude, too sissy like, too lame, too PvP focused, too PvE focused ..."

This market situation is the problem of many "young" games and games in the process of collapsing.

People draw inside their cliques and any type of interaction beyond that group is reduced.  To turn it around will require the older corporations to stop thinking insular and start thinking growth wise by trading more.  The ability to shop and see things on a market is valuable to new players.  NOT seeing that can and will drive many away.  "Dead game" style.

This is very true, and something I tried to get my former corp to see. Early on in the game after it was released, we were all on equal footing. The research race was on, and the corps that got to the end first usually were the ones that won most engagements in the game. Selling T4 on the market meant selling it to people who were going to use it to kill you, so most corps came up with internal markets or ran it straight up communistic. There was no real benefit to selling it to people, as beta island producers get 80% of the nic for production back in station income if they own the outpost. So you didn't need much nic to produce everything you needed.

You hit the nail on the head with why the market is important, but the guys sitting on the finished tech prototypers don't want to give up a strangle hold on them. Providing prototypes at 10x materials (a good prototyper will make something on every one) to anyone and everyone would open up the marketplace like wildfire. Instead, those on alpha or not in some of the older more established corps get left to rot.

So what would a robust market encourage? It would encourage guys that would rather spend their time mining/running transports/farming npcs with a few RL friends, or in-game friends to buy the things they want. Eventually some of them will find their way on to beta to shoot at you (which all the beta corps say they want anyways).

The problem is, most of the current beta island corps aren't intrested in fair play, or good fights. They simply want to dominate their opponents. It's understandable, everyone wants to win. What they don't understand is that hoarding all the protos hurts them just as much as the noob that quits because he can't buy *** on the market.

Oh well... I guess in another 6 months when arga gets done with the tech tree there'll be market avalible protos... or at least more tech on the market.

*edit* That last paragraph in the quote is espically true in my former corp. Cliques get formed, and if you're outside and have a voice or want to do things a little diffrently, the clique gets upset and /ragekicks.

Totally valid build.

I can tell you guys, if we took all the listed comments and implemented them to the game, you would have prefit robots with an on/off button on them. The beauty of the game is that a combination of planning, effort, training and wealth will catch your opponents off guard.

However, this is best suited for hit and runs. If you get figured out you die, right Lemon? smile

I agree with that being the beauty of the game. New players in lowly assaults will have a chance. But I disagree with Line, because the best way to counter assault gangs is with mechs with weapon stabs. You don't have to destroy something to win a fight. Forcing someone to retreat, to me, is almost as good as blowing them all up. There are lots of fights you're not going to win solo, or when you're outnumbered 15-2.

About the part where you've gotten the asumption that the players want prefit robots though it's totally baseless. I don't think anyone has ever said we want things EASY.... only that we want things EASIER. There is a diffrence. Sequers should haul 240u, and lithus should haul 1200u. And, every bot should have base speed of AT LEAST 100. Get the people in the door, THEN add things to keep them here.

Now, everyone please agree with me here so that the devs can implement these changes, but not look like they're agreeing with me.

<Someone Important> tbh I am the one behind getting the assault stealth bonus reverted
<Someone Important> and the ECCM reverted
<Someone Important> it interrupts the philosophy smile

That part of the log has me concerned. I don't know who it is, nor do I care, but that concerns me.

It sounds like some bitter vet who's territory has been threatened by newer players being able to come out and compete. What they're failing to realize is... even if they've spec'd away from basic robotics stuff, should they choose to have fun with the other guys doing it, they could always pick up a new account. You can get into an assault from day one.

I doubt anyone is going to be bringing assault squads on intrusions btw. Maybe if you're feeling lonely and want to have a fight in mechs and heavy mechs, make an intrusion happen.

I'm really hoping they don't revert the changes. I see no problem with a waspish going as fast as Kain, with baphomet and arbie even faster. I also don't see a problem with them being stealth as they are. I see no need to change them from their current form, because some bitter vet has decided they are upset because the game has changed.

If the bots do change, are we going to get a mrk2 variant of that as well? Is it going to require espitium, briochit or alligior to make? I certainly hope not, or kiss it being new player friendly goodbye.

Seriously, would you rather sit on your island 24/7, mining away, building up... and then hardly ever fighting, because you spent so long mining and hauling that you don't want to risk it getting blown up?

Or would you rather have lots of fun fights, where the things you blow up and get blown up in aren't THAT important? But hey.. maybe you can have lots of fun showing up on someones door and suprising a miner or lithus. Then it's a race to see if you and your buddies can blow up that lithus before he makes it to station or the teleporter. Or his buddies show up to save him...

Most of the fights I remember  are the ones that we laughed about, wether we killed stuff or not. I haven't been on too many of those lately. The last one I remember was Dark Omega, and a couple of other guys (sorry forget your names) from CIR, and we took out t1 fitted assaults and killed 2 kains and 2 castels. The best thing about it was the suprise factor.

Think long and hard about what you want from perpetuum. Ask yourself also what will happen if the game does not grow. I sure as hell had alot more fun 3 months ago in light bots when there was tons of people to shoot at... and get shot by. Whatever it takes for this game to have people like that again... or MORE... I'll stand behind.

No i am not asking for a heads up at all, the pure fact that you are that short sighted as to where my goals are to see this game grow is insulting. Lets start reading what i am posting and stop this QQ and "Buff me, Nerf Them" bantering.

The question was "Where are we going" as in i want to know what sort of game/direction are we heading not what the next FOTM is or next new bot to save my EP for. When you fit your bot you are always strong in one department and weak in another. As a tank you have superior tank but inferior Speed and in the opposite when you go for speed you lose tank. When you equip Neuts you eliminate a enamys effectiveness and lesson your dps if you have any. This game is about giving and taking (at least it used to be).

The idea isnt that "OOOOO ASSAULTS ARE OP WE CANT STOP THEM" its what are you sacraficing by running them? Nothing you are able to gain the best of everything. Now Yes you can kill them and quiet easily rip them to shreds, But lets go ahead and look at how you would do that.

Gang Fit, Speed/Range. *Required* Detector/Marker. *required* L-Demober and Bag and tag. So to start you have to have 2 high EP , High cost module fit mechs to begin the construction of a strong counter gang. Now lets look at the opposite, "oh you can just tank them" if that is your response i want you to ask your self, WHO IN THERE RIGHT MIND WOULD RUN A GROUP OF ASSAULTS IN TO A TANK WALL. No one... But wait how are they able to avoid this.... By being able to have superior Detection and only be seen sub 350m to a non detecting bot and moving faster than anything beside bots that have less sight range and firepower.

So wait a assault can out stealth faster bots than it... out run bots and hide form bots with superior fire power and at a fraction of the cost. Hell lets have respawn while we are at it.

You all seem to fail to realize what the essence of this game was, which is making choices and sacrifices to gain certain benefits for a fit. I have no issue with cost effective bots that allow young new players to get in to pvp, but you have to remember the foundation of this game.

I am behind the developers decision but am curious to there new steps of action. I invite any logical and thought out disputes of balance and ideals to be presented. Frankly i am sick and tired of annoyed newbs rage posting about things being OP with out a logical fix or work around or a strong argument to why something is overpowerd. The only other player i have seen on these forums to present relevant and strong arguments a majority of the time for balance is Alexander. He and He alone i could see sitting down and having a good conversation and hammering out a nice list of player opinions towards balance but as for the rest of you its frankly sad and pathetic.

Troll this, QQ this all you want. Learn what a Rock, paper, scissor balance is and work around it. For every fit there is a counter and for every extreme fit there is a equal and opposite extreme counter, if there isnt ill be the first to suggest it to the Dev's.

P.S. if i have 1v 3+ed you and your corp GTFO of my thread please and come back when you understand mechanics and proper game play.

tl;dr
QQ 4-5 noobs in assaults can take my super duper tanked artemis. Srsly, you can talk about how you're having a serious discussion all you want, but at the end of the day, that's what it boils down to.

So... now you have to use tactics to fight noobs in assaults instead of walking all over them. Which, by the way, will happen as soon as you realize that 2 people in a mech squad with weapon stabs will *** them. So what if they get away because you can't see them. Speacialize into a detector toon, you're so for specialization.

Are you asking for a heads up so you know what to spend your ep on now so that you can be uber in the future?

I've told everyone who's asked and plenty that didnt that I never wanted to specialize my character so much I'd be obselte in any certain bot if it got nerfed or something else was more powerful.

Would you believe I'm probaly the only early access guy on the server that's still active with a combat oriented character who ISNT in a heavy mech? It's because I kept all my basic robotics skills, and I spec'd heavily into EW as well. Now, maybe you can do some things better then me, but I can easily jump into any thelodica bot, besides seth, drive a sequer and ew the crap out of you.

Specialization has a price. Sure being the best in any certain bot is a good thing, but that bot isnt going to be useful in every situation. I guess i'll be left out if RG ever decides to do a heavy mech only roam. I've felt pretty left out all these times that they're running in kains and I can't go because my artemis only does 71 and that's with gimp fittings.

Having plans for the future and all is great, but we're playing here and now. Besides, if you read the Q&A from beta, the devs stated there were eventually going to be destroyer class bots. Might want to start saving up your EP for them now. I mean... that's where all the end game pvp will be. Oh, and don't forget artillery, there'll be some of that.

But until that comes out, why not quit the *** and moaning about assaults (and this isn't directed at any one certain person, i've heard several people crying about losing heavy mechs to a 15 man assault group). It doesn't cost that much to get into an assault, and a few points into masking, and you're good to go. New people will have MORE FUN because they'll have viable tactics for lower ep.

They can be countered by all the things that the beta island corps promote... working together as a team. You might lose a few bots here and there solo or in small groups, but that's the price you pay for living on beta island. Plus it'll give you something to do to replace it when it gets blown up. Plus the alpha island more casual players and pvpers will be able to compete... maybe only to the extent of killing a couple people caught out traveling alone, or lone unscouted rivelers, but it's something.

(111 replies, posted in Q & A)

ok so i went back an read everything. What a waste of time.

It's a whole lot easier to balance a small amount of things, and stuff that's already existing.

Instead, we're going to add more paramaters and make things even more complex.

I'll give to you guys one point, I think the assualt speed changes were a little much... with empasis on the little. A waspish doing 85? An arbie doing 95? That's a little bit much. Slow them down a little bit, keep assaults in the game as they are now.

There's some people here who want mechs to be king roaming bot, and heavy mechs to be able to solo 30 lights at once while stepping on them and blowing them up. They're threatened by the fact that maybe someone who is based only on alpha can have a forray into their home and blow up their assests.

I'm thinking the root problem here is a corp based on alpha can have a more casual play style, their members can do their own thing, farm solo, mine solo, play the market solo.. and then get together with 5 or 6 or whatever and come fight you. I think that'd be pretty awesome.

Now, you beta island dwellers, you say "We want to be king top dog! We are work together to achieve ultimate glory!" Which is all fine and dandy. But just because you are, doesn't mean you should never have to fight to prove or keep it.

Keep it Simple. Slow down assaults a little bit. There's no need to add a new type of stealth assault bot. That requires even more specialization.

I only read part of the first page, and I think I understand the argument, at least as it was in the first page.

Assaults were useless in pvp... people ***.

Assaults now have a place in pvp... people ***.

I haven't had any trouble fitting the riv mk2 with all t4 stuff, and my fitting skills on that toon aren't all that high.

I think the EP/T4 balance is pretty good. You have to have very good fitting skills in order to fit entire fits of t4.

It really all just depends on what you want to do. I purposely didn't specialize my EA pvp toon. I didn't want to be hemmed into one kind of robot, for the FOTM stuff. When Kains get nerfed, I'll be glad I didn't spec into it tongue

I spent most of my ep across thelodica though, and pretty balanced in light lasers, medium lasers and ewar. I probaly won't ever be "the best" at any of that, but I do well enough to hold my own, and can jump across multiple bots as the situation calls for.

IMO, it sounds like you're really well skilled in Nuimquol. Have you ever tried EW? It's a totally diffrent style of play. It's extremely powerful in this game, to the point of some fights being decided by who's got the better EW.

Then again, if you went ahead and took your Energy Management and Accumulator Expansion up to 8 or 9, it'll benefit you greatly in many diffrent bots should you choose to spec into something other then dps later on. *Edit* Not to mention in your dps bot as well tongue
