What mechanics are built in to the system to prevent any entity from placing three bases on each of the new three islands on release and then responding to reinforce timers?

The station limitation makes base capping all of gamma competitively easy. Drip feeding in gammas three at a time is going to make it even easier.

Not sure the title fits the OP ...but I also agree that the base cap thing is a mistake. There must be other ways to limit base sprawl. I've mentioned limiting the size of these painted zones, others have had fair ideas as well.

As for the turn this thread has taken on opening beta outposts. Just no.

Was it not a huge topic issue with Intrusion 1.0 that people were able to go into enemy bases? I realize there is MASSIVE *** ISSUE with the current mechanic permitting Dominant Power to monopolize all the outposts, but opening them up to all is not the best solution.

Reopening Gamma, putting at least more Beta limits on Sparks (or eliminate completely from Beta, thus Sparks Alpha/Gamma only), and re-working Inter-zone TP mechanics are the places to start. Perhaps make IZ TP only go to Alpha and Gamma as well (with ability to deploy on Beta).

There has to be significant obstacles to being all places quickly. Once that is the case Dominant Powers will be hard pressed to motivate players to criss-cross the map for the marginal benefit of owning bases no one uses.

Maiden, it's a mechanics issue. Sparks for one. Lack of islands for two, at least with regard to pvp power and domination issues. Look at my signature. I've been advocating that a long time so NEW players have room to grow while vets (hopefully) cannot be everywhere in minutes.

You're advocating change get to pvp mechanics while admitting to an industrial play style. Perhaps your opinions are wrong. Perhaps mine are. But I've said nothing in this thread to indicate my opinions are not sincere.

Perhaps it's a corp tag thing. I don't know don't care why.

EDIT: just noticed OP ignore list thing. You mad cause you dont like me disagreeing with your opinion? Dude, you're the one who started the topic accusing players of killing the game.

Zoom should just close it down.

You are quite welcome.. Reading A-S-S Hatters minds like yours is very easy! We should do it again sometime!

Your rage is pointed in the wrong direction.

Also your idea on NPC mercenaries would only make life worse for you as vets--with countless sub-500k accounts and countless billions--turn them against you.

Trying to come up with ideas to level the field between nob and vet is mostly lost cause. Best idea is for developers to create more space. But tell me again how full of *** I am. Meanwhile have a cool one. On me.

So who exactly gets hurt for this? Corporations like CIR. PHM, 77 who have billions upon billions of nik? Or the average everyday player?

For as long as nik is the deciding factor in pvp. The dominance by vets will stay in place.

Players and corps in 77 CIR may have billions and billions of NIC but they are hardly the richest in game.

And that you think NIC is the deciding factor in pvp tells me again that you just got to the party. Sit back and throw down some cool ones, you have much drinking to do.

Thought more about it...

Terrible idea.

Lazy and too broad.

I guess it's no big deal to just throw out any past balancing done from one bot and one race to another.

Don't do it.

Just stating 'facts'  ...so fed up with the stupid accusations about ANYONE ruining the game. There is no *** way that these last holdouts to this game are only sticking around to see it destroyed. Just stupid and tiresome to read it over and over.

Posts 2, 5, and 12 answer OP's accusation. As for what's wrong with game, welcome to the party. Grab a drink. It's clear you just got here.

Edit: well, 1st half of post 5.

When Gamma comes back I would suggest that beta terminals on each island cannot be locked down or owned, it works well in EvE with low sec space, it would enable pvp corps and casual corps to have a beta presence without fear of losing their hard earned stuff

That's the best idea I've heard in years.

EVE comparison does not work here until we get about another 100 islands minimum. Then sure, add more open Beta terminals on more islands.

otherwise not the best idea I've heard in years especially since I hear it every other month for years.

You guys keep trying to balance the game with 30 dudes playing again... jeez

The damn map is small enough already, the only grind for speed was missions!

This.

Going back and forth and back and forth and back and forth to do missions will still suck at +36.

Only real place where I see robot speed as an issue is where one does a REPETITIVE task over and over. Increasing robot speed is not the solution.

Define problem, then discuss Solutions

Not sure anyone noticed yet, but we have considerably increased the base speed of all robots (straight +36kph). This is not a test server only convenience change, this will go out to the live server.

Combined with the proposed highway and teleport network changes, this should make boring walks somewhat less of an issue.

what? what? what?

Do you have any idea the implication of this change? At first reaction, it's game changing ...at least for pvp.

Will be interesting to see at least, but be prepared for ripples in the pond

EDIT: Just read all comments above and glad to see everyone so far sees it as more negative that positive. I bet Devs are scratching their heads. bet you guys thought we would jump up and down with joy. More proof you don't know your own game

Sell the game or part of it to an investor who believes it has potential. At this rate of development, gamma, missions, new engine, more bots and modules and balancing will get done by 2020 by that time the engine/gfx would be outdated again. hmm

I would imagine they have tried by now. Its hard to sell something thats effectively worthless and a game that has no playerbase and doesn't make money is that.

Don't be so sure. Sometimes investment money is there and owners don't like 'giving up control' or 'giving away' too much equity, even when in the long run it's clearly beneficial.

This is one the the biggest issues since game's release in 2010. For that reason this has to become a priority after Gamma islands are released again. No point now in dropping the gamma improvements though, its still (I would assume) too far ahead in development to just cancel.

Therefore in order of priorities , what need to be fixed next:

Travel times:  This has always been the number one issue with new and old players, the whole map network needs to be reworked. It's all well and good to create distances in game worlds but as pointed out before PVE/Missions needs to be more casual friendly, the idea is in 1 hour of game play , players needs to be satisfied with what they have accomplished.

Travel Time Issue has at least 2 components. And both are broken. One is too slow and one is too fast.

Travel from Island to Island.
It's too easy with sparks and IZ making the world seem small and dominating pvp group to monopolize islands and resources.

Travel within one Island
This is where the "slow travel time" issue exists, especially with regard to missions. Any repetitive process that forces player to go from one side of map to the other is mind numbingly boring.

Both hurt retention. One makes life on one island boring with the constant back and forth. The other makes its almost impossible to grow outside Alpha as you hit the brick wall of domination

But whose reading this anyway...

I think Zoom you have eliminated one of the greatest features the game had. The creativity and detail you could build with beacon terraforming, and the subsequent bases will never be duplicated. All you had to do was adjust the terraforming limits.

I still think you Devs could have kept the old 'unlimited' slope terraforming with Beacons AND used ZONES to contain the crazy island-wide terraforming graffiti. Unfortunately I have so little time for in-game play, much less time for in-game testing. I hope the new system works out.

Your posts about first experiences were much more fun. This post about an unchanging future is one more in a long line of posts about Perpetuum's doom. I guess you did not quite quit some weeks back. You would hardly be the first to quit and come back, or even quit again to come back again. Despite all the flaws there is something magnetic about this game.

Regarding your theory on Asset Accumulation as the basis for sustained political/military might, you're dead wrong. Assets are necessary, but Willpower is the prime ingredient. PvP wins feed willpower and PvP loses sap it. What creates PvP wins is another topic.

The reason you have 'no place to stand' is that the island count is pathetic, and the means to be anywhere in minutes is game-breaking. Once a power establishes itself as dominant, all other fade to Alpha.

The game is broken, but not in the way you think.

Welcome back.

As we all know from the EvE analogy the thriving player base plays in hi sec, so unless [nonsensical hyperbolic gibberish about specific player intentions], you need to provide a lot of safe PvE content to get the player base up

Those people then wander into less safe space after a while, not all the time but if you have enough of them then a noticeable amount

The only thing that is important to this game at the moment is to increase the player base and [nonsensical hyperbolic gibberish about specific player intentions], the fact is that the Devs need to expand the PvE element of this game.

Police towers wont do that, dynamic and interesting PvE content will

As such I guffaw at your suggestion, focus on the immediate problems and not ideas that will [nonsensical hyperbolic gibberish about specific player intentions]

After applying my Jelan-Filter Technology to weed out the irrelevant, I conclude that his opinion on Development Priorities is more/less correct.

My understanding is that the Idea is to create "Unsafe Zones" in Alpha but to "protect" players in Alpha with Police Towers. This game needs to promote population growth of PVEers in Alpha, not discourage it, which is exactly what the Unsafe Zones would do.

Now if the idea is to add these Towers to Beta, that's a different story as it may be an incentive to get the carebears out there. But I won't hold my breath.

Either way, it's hardly as important as developing PVE content and no where near as important as creating more islands.

Fix - create log to identify which character dropped probe.

Not sure about remote self destruct.

Not sure what you're asking or suggesting but any incentive to MONOPOLIZE beta outpost ownership only makes 2 - powerblock server problem worse. And this is why...

you want Avatar Creations to turn Perpetuum from a PvP sandbox game into a PvE only themepark with robots?

Actually, PVE is the bedrock of a stability for a game like this. There will always be far far more PVEers than PvPers. As important as making this a fun PvP game, it cannot sustain without a far stronger PVE incentive.

M2S was the closest thing to BoB this game has seen. I don't think anyone else can really claim a similarity.

As for Goons there has never been anything like that here, unfortunately. However, there are very many people who like to throw around the phrase "KILLING THE GAME" but then that's the typical response from anyone who recently suffered a severe curb-stomping.

If Goons were here they may say they are not trying to kill THE game, only trying to kill YOUR game.
