You do understand that you could train Accelerated Target Locking (ATL) to level 9 for 17,153 EP  almost completely nullifying the EP advantage a 50ker would have on target locking.

But what about the dual sensor amplifiers you can put on an assault bot you say? Well for 17,594 EP you can train ATL to 8 AND all the prereq skills to pilot an assault bot yourself. Thus most likely giving yourself the advantage.

Both scenarios can be done with a brand new character.

(Note: All EP numbers were taken from Perpetuum Planner using a Pure combat character build.)

Like I said it all boils down to player skill/creativity. Use your head next time you decide to spew ignorance on the forums.

Worst advice ever for a new player.....now he is left with 0 points to do anything else in the game..lol

It's a problem. It's the game mechanics. L2 missions are pointless. You get the same rep (and money for the most part because you can do them faster) for just repeating the L1. It makes no sense....

It can easily be fixed I would think. Not sure why it has not been done. Unless they are purposely trying to keep the bulk of the player base on Alpha in order to make better first impressions on people playing the game for the first time.

so what happens when a corp joins an alliance and needs to move its fleet from point A to point B? There are not bots that can carry other bots correct? At least in bulk. So then wtf do I do? Move then all manually? In EvE, you can at least "pod" so you can leave a ship somewhere, pod back and bring in more ships 1 by 1. You cannot do that in this game And that should be a minimum.

I LOVE the game. I am just suggesting Logistics needs some love. asap. It's far too primitive to support a local banking implementation on top of territory controlled pvp.

How do you specialize in "Transport"? You can't. Only mining and industry. Those are 2 different things.

Maybe in a future patch they can add some new robots just for logistics / hauling and a few new EP lines to compliment (like in EvE).

Right now its a pita and makes no sense financially (why do I have to run logistics in a "mining bot", or "assault bot" etc.). Those are my only options, and are very $ atm.

lol

So 2.5 mil for a "combat" bot that does nothing but logistics...

How about the devs take all the weapon slots off, and make me one that sells for 500k?

Logistics needs some loving in this game. Bad.

The Alpha zones are populated with huge amounts of players farming AI in light and assault bots for this reason...

You get the SAME amount of rep for L1 and L2 missions (.06 gains for my example) even if your rep is 1.01....WTF!?! You should not be getting ANY rep for Alpha when you reach 1.00.....

Due to this, naturally players will just stay in the alpha zones and grind L1 past 1.01 because it's faster and easier than doing the L2s. lol

And it's more profitable because it's easier (faster).

This needs balanced asap or you will never spread the player pop out like it should be....

Alpha islands will and always will be where the market is. Just like in EvE (Jita).

It's where all the people go to trade goods (least make a steady profit).

What this game needs atm is an easier way to transport goods. EvE had industry ships, which are easier to obtain. Not so easy in this game.....do they even exists? Bots with high cargo capacity and nothing else?

Could be worse. Could be like the idiots who made Mortal Offline and pretty much blacked out the entire screen making it remotely impossible to even play their game at "night".

We at J-D play (roleplay) evil characters (murderers) that seek out all non-allied characters with the intent of killing them and taking their loot. We do not ever intend to "ruin" other peoples enjoyment of Perpetuum, we truly feel that we add excitement to the game by giving other players "real" villians to fear or plan against. We do not harrass anyone ever, be it sexual, racial or whatever (unless you are French Canadian). We do not "target" any one group of players or areas within the game with our attacks. We balance our attacks among all the places we frequent. We seek out these "characters" at all unguarded areas within the game.

Current tax rate:
10%

Current storage vaults:
New Virginia, Alpha Terminal
New Virginia, Bellicha Outpost

Rules:
There are none other than respect the corp and it's players.

We use vent and it is required (we have a vent server all you need is the client and a microphone).

All new players and recruits accepted into J-D have level 1 corp storage access to New Virginia, Alpha Terminal. Here you can develop your agents, and if needed, use your own alternate industry agents (we can corp tag them as well) to swap out goods via the corp storage.

We offer PvE, PvP, mining, etc.

Recruitment:
Apply for Juevos del Diablo in game. Use the "Search" button up top, select the "Corporation" tap, type in our name, then right click and apply, etc.

Sadly when we talked to a GM they said they would have to investigate it on a per user basis and I'm not real sure he was even going to do that.  Instantly detected is not going to occur for this case scenario on the detection of a brute force macro because basically it's just an attempt of all combinations quickly.  Any user could do this on their own albeit you cannot type as fast as a macro program.  But you certainly can sit there and try all combinations if you have the time and the patience.

Per the discussion I can tell you no one is watching the logs just to watch them.

Guessing the codes via hand typing and using a script macro are 2 completely different topics.

Trying to guess the codes via hand typing should be allowed.

Have you tried giving yourself an actual goal?

Personally I find the grind is actually enjoyable as long as I keep a goal in mind. This isn't a game where you get handed quests on a platter and if you just do as the nice devs tell you then you'll eventually have all the best stuff on the server, just like everyone else.

I set myself a goal and then I work for it. I spend my EP to achieve that goal. I save my NIC for that goal. I investigate the fittings if it's a robot. I investigate the materials if it's production. I investigate the market if it's trade. I spend my time and energy on it so that at the end I have something that I earned. Something I'll remember as the time I finally got my Assault Bot, or when I finally built my first Mech, or when I finally earned my first billion.

Yes the basic gameplay is fairly repetitive and probably a bit boring. But for me a sandbox isn't about that. It's about achievement and determining your own path.

Sure, this game needs work. It's an indie game made by 10 people that released less then a week ago. But the basis for something great is definitely here. If you need the devs to give you reasons to play then maybe you're doing it the wrong way?

Find your own reasons in the game. If you can't find any then the conclusion should be simple, the game's not for you. At least not yet.

Could someone please tell us, for the love of all that is holy, good, and sensible, what it costs to run a set-up like Perpetuum Online? Discount the developer's salaries and make an approximate guess of monthly costs, based on actual experience of running and paying for servers on your part. It would be truly enlightening for a person like me, who has never seen such facts stated in any of these threads before.

Their server cluster is small atm, and I am assuming all the hardware (servers) is/are paid for.

So their cost to run atm is bandwidth and electricity at the hosting facility, HQ commodities and salary (payroll). These guys wrote their own 3D engine (I think), so there is no leasing/paying someone else when it comes to that. That's key.

Their dev team is small and all oversea (Hungarian (Indian)). They are based out of Budapest. So you can stretch 9k US Dollars a LOT further there, than here in the states. Here in the states you could only afford 2 software engineers at 9k a month, and that's pushing it....then your minus artists/animators, etc. hehe

Here I will put it into perspective:

Tuesday, November 30, 2010

1 US Dollar = 214.369 Hungarian Forint
1 Hungarian Forint (HUF) = 0.004665 US Dollar (USD)

So I am certain they are on par with what was planned in the business model.
big_smile

What's most important to note is their core code assemblies are working, and working well. The game runs good. I am sure they have editors to load in new content, so adding new content should not be too difficult and very cost affective.

I am very impressed so far. This has been a very good launch for an indy company. Especially launching a mmorpg - the hardest game to manufacture along with one of the hardest industries to compete in. These guys knew what they wanted, most importantly understood what they wanted, and they rolled it out quite well.

I do think that PvP in perp will be a lot more common for various reasons when compared to EvE:

- No warping, safespots or any of the like. Just take a fast bot into the beta isles and you should atleast be able to find players relatively quickly. In EvE you spend hours looking for a fight that lasted minutes at most.
- No implants, pods or SP lost on death. If you die you loose what you fight in, nothing more and nothing less. You don't have to decide between either risking extremely expensive implants or making your skills train slower. You can take a light bot into a PvP area and risk just that and nothing more. Here you can do low risk, low reward PvP. In EvE all PvP seems high risk, no matter the reward.

I think/hope that once the basic light bot market is up and running and people start earning millions of NIC per hour we'll see a lot of cheap bots near the beta isle entrances ( on either side of em ) just killing each other for *** and giggles.

This will then hopefully provide a proper stepping stone into more serious PvP deeper into the beta isles. A stepping stone that EvE mostly lacked save for putting alts into FW or RvB.

That for me is the reason why I'm mostly playing Perp. I think the PvP will be a lot easier to find and a lot more accesible.
