Ever since I started playing eve (may of 2008)I have been comparing all other MMOs to eve. Waiting hoping something would come along that deserved to be compared to EVE. Perpetuum is that game.....the only game in fact. I don't care if there are similarities. If anything they make me want to see more of the game.

If you ask me Avatar has simply followed the natural progression of advancing the way game will start being developed adding in far more functionality than what was available in the past. No longer will gamers be satisfied with poor functionality no improvements with noting more than a fresh coat of paint. Gamers are going want and expect new functionality, more skills. The days of paying for crap expansions are over.(WOW style)

The other day I was sitting there playing Perpetuum and all of a sudden I started getting light headed and shaky and realized I had not eaten a thing since the day before I was so involved with the game. That's never happened with any game before.....so now I set the alarm to warn me when i should take a break and get food and stretch my legs. I'm loving it.

Eve was the first

Perpetumm is now ... the mold is broken there is no going back.

Maybe the problem is people who are scared of competing against other people and not that games are too "hardcore".

What you are trying to do is project your own insecurities and possible deficiencies on a small team making a game for gamers. Gamers who actually enjoy competition as they themeslves obviously do if the current content of Perpetuum is anything to go by.

You just need to accept that all games are not made for all people and pick one which you will enjoy, rather than trying to change one that obviously isn't geared towards your playstyle. I mean that in the nicest possible way. I don't think you are less of a person because you don't want to pvp, it can be stressful, but that stress is what makes some gamers tick, myself included.

hehehe you ammuse me. I hope you stick around smile

here's and FYI

I am a PvPer. I do not however go out and kill everyone I see just because the game mechanics allow it. If my corp marks you as an enemy I will hunt you down(ummm not you specifically Vorgrim Scout just corp enemy's in general),  skin you alive and hang your skull above the door to my house however. Before i am done my corp's enemies will be cowering in their bunkers preying i don't find them. big_smile

War decing is a bad idea there is not reason for it. Beta islands are plenty open to pvp why give greifers a tool to herase PvEers living on the alpha islands.

This is a ridiculous argument, at least half of this playerbase is here because of the pvp beta islands if not more.  The satisfaction you will get from taking and holding an area in beta islands will be 1000x more rewarding than farming mindlessly on alpha forever.  It's going to take hard work of your entire corp to do, and maybe this is what scares some people.

Not to say pve content should not be expanded(it should) and that more islands should not be added as population outgrows the current ones(they should).  Currently the beta islands are almost completely empty, we have run a couple roams and aside from running up to m2s's doorstep we rarely see anyone aside from a couple miners here and there.

You are right I am willing to bet 95% of the people subbing right now are in it for the PvP. Where does that leave the money spending PvE players......quite honestly looking for another game to play.

Not a single PvP orient game out today has attracted more than a few thousand die hard pvpers. Where are those games now or will be soon. Broke and free to play.

This game is a great game the mechanics work great and the world is perfect for adding more land mass. I am sure that in the future the DEVs will expand it and make more room for the PvE gamers to expand and explore. Mark my words its the PvE gamers that will be paying Avatars bills not the pvpers who have consistently hoped from game to game because past developers catered to the WRONG demographic.

This game has to have more PvEers and it will I am sure of it, I dream of it I want this game to succeed.

Mixing pvp and pve is always a bad idea.

I disagree totally.
For this game to make it it has to have more subscibers and the vast majority of that is going to be PvE players because they are more numerous than the PvPers.

This game is perfect for mixing PvE and PvP.

The DEVs just have to give the PvE types more room to explore and grow in. As the game is now the PvE players can totally exhaust the nostalgia of exploriong the three alpha islands in about a week or two adding more islands will prolong that nostalgia.

I will wager to that there are currently very very few die hard PvE players ingame atm. Most of us are pvpers or semi pvpers.

There is a subtle difference between not understanding and not agreeing that you are failing to grasp. We understand you don't like pvp, we just don't think its necessary to ruin the game pandering to people who are clearly not the target demographic.

Heres a suggestion. Start thinking of the players on beta islands as roaming npcs with good AI that don't leash.

Your phobia of facing people rather than AI is the problem, not the game mechanics.

I don't believe your assessment is accurate.

His suggestion was to increase land-mass sizing so that the dynamics evened out some.  In other words:  PvPrs would have to hunt up targets as opposed to being bottled up with them in a (in his opinion) too close environment.

PvP is still there, not suggested as taken away.

Halaluya  A another man who understands what I am saying. Thanks man I was begining to lose hope.

I think war decs would be another avenue for greifing PvE players in none PvP areas. I disagree with war decs whole heartedly UNLESS they can be limnited to Beta Islands.

DIZI is the only one who is understanding what I have said.

I had something similar happen to me once.

Did you maximize the mission window?

Did you abort the mission and leave the maxed mission window open?

CenDre the game is currently 26 hours old. 20 hours if you count in the rollback. Isn't it a bit early to start preaching the end of the world based on completely fictional statistics?

How about wait and see for atleast 2 weeks, probably more like a month and see how the game fares before making any huge changes?

Give all the players some time to get a feel of the game and give the devs some time to get a feel of the players.

Maybe you're right and in 2 weeks people will be whining all over the forums about getting ganked all day, then the devs can react based on actual numbers and actual facts. Instead of a single player's claim that 94,05% of the player base will never ever PvP, 5% of the players sometimes PvP and 0,05% of the players always PvP. With an apparent 0,9% of the population staring at their login-screens all day long.

Wait and see, give the game some time. And yeah it sucks when devs aren't able to fix problems before they come up or right after they do, but the alternative of them fixing things that aren't even broken is much worse.

The coolest part about this game is the DEVs total dedication to the player base and the supper speed with which they can, and do and have made changes to the game. If people start complaining like i think they will it will be easy for the DEVs to add more islands in short order.

I have full confidence that when the issue does become prominent they WILL fix it...and fast.

So if any of you are reading this thread fear not the DEVs are awesome and they will be there.

You are still making blanket statements you cannot possibly back up.

Its my opinion more than a statement. I would love to be proven wrong ...it would make me very happy.

Cendre just lost the thread with the %s she just posted.

If you think pvpers living on beta (not f*ding* bate) are .05% that would be less tha 10 players, assuming we have under 2000 active players.  I'm sure you realize there's many more living full time on beta, not considering those who frequent beta but not living from a beta outpost.

You failed so hard here.

Most certainly not bro..... at this time the game probably does not have any pve players and if it does you can bet most are deciding not to keep playing. Most everyone in game now fall into the semi pvp or pvp category.

the percentages are more a guess on the population of gamers world wide (tens of millions of players)not based on numbers of players in this one little game(infinitesimal 2000 optimistically) . It is my intention to simply point out that the VAST majority of players world wide are none pvpers and that every game ever published that depended on the "pvp market" has failed due to lack of subscribers.

I like separation of pve and pvp. Getting pvp'd while your pveing is lame. Don't get me wrong I like to pvp, I'd spend 1/3 of my time pvping if it was at all fun.

More islands would help to localize pvp making it so not everyone is getting ganked 10 times a day or until they have not bots left to pilot.

if a small grp is out lookin to gank someone they will haveno problems searching a whole island in less than 20 minutes.

Exactly my point. With the 20 min time frame per island you can scout the entire pvp capable game works in under 2 hours. This is why i say the world is to small and needs to be enlarged.

bump agree

If you were on the beach ready to go swimming and have a great time and a life guard told you there were great white sharks out there feeding and they would never go away, it could be one shark or a thousand all they know is som one saw a guy get eaten alive...... would you jump in.

Disclaimer first: I am a carebear so far, i cart stuff from terminal to terminal making money off what i buy and sell, this does mean that occasionally i need to ask for help to get out to the stations on the outer isles to drag ammo and the like out. I do have a combat account, i go out and blow up NPC mechs, mission run, etc. but have not really wanted to go out to the outer isles yet. I do the same thing in EvE and love it, except there i have two accounts that are both merchants, neither account even has weapons on ships, lol.

There is a big difference between us in our flabby bodies going into the water with sharks, and working with others before going out into a PvP area.....
If you do not ever want to interact with others (which you said at least once earlier) and think there are a lot of other people here that feel the same i fear you are mistaken.
For one this is an MMO, perhaps more than other MMO's (other than EvE) the whole idea is interaction with others.
Secondly when you started out, you did not immediately rush out and take on star mechs did you? Did not swim with the sharks until you became as bad as they were?
You were barely able to handle the drones they sent you out against, same as the rest of us. Then as you learn the game and pick up some skills you fight tougher and tougher bots. The same has to happen with PvP areas, we all need to learn ways to get in and out relatively safely, what not to do, etc. You evolve in the game where to some degree you become a shark that can handle the other sharks in your pool.

As someone pointed out before there are plenty of carebears that go into the PvP areas for whatever reason and we have learned to swim with the sharks

...yes, i am carebear, if attacked in PvP i will run before using my measly weapons to hide shaking behind the legs of the nearest friendly bristling with guns lol....

An interesting thing to note, PvPers do sometimes need carebears (and the other way around). If the fighting gets hot and heavy, ammo supplies start running low, guess what? I can come running in with a load of ammo, they can blow me up, or let me in to start selling, if they do not like my prices i will not be welcomed back (other than as meat), if they blow me up, i can embargo them, or hurt them by playing the market (if they put in remote buy and sell orders i could do much better with that last though, lol)

I agree that more space would be better, for a few reasons, but mostly because the paths between alpha and Beta Isles are few and narrow. I am waiting for an enterprising large corp to decide to blockade between them, it would not be overly hard.

For this game to live I mean truly live all of us gamers regardless of our play style need one another. We depend on one another to make the gaming exp enjoyable. I play online games for the simple fact i like interacting with people from around the world.

my only point in this thread is simply this:

The game world is to small and it will cram the pvp and pve people together enough so that the true pve players the ones who NEVER indulge in pvp will not pay to play this game.

Here is my definition of the three play styles I think are relevant to this thread:

PvP style = people willing to go out and fight and lose bots every single day without end. .05% of gamer population

Semi pvp style = people that prefer the day to day safety of the Alpha islands but on occasion will venture out to the Bate islands but will run from fights if attacked. they accept the cost of possible destruction. 5% of gamer population

PvE style = people who never pvp, don't want to be attacked and do not accept the cost of a lost bot lightly and prefer the safty of the Alpha Islands 100% of the times. These people never want to be blown up by other players and will find other games to play as a result. 94.05% of gamer population.

It sure would be cool to be capable of accessing the market outside the terminal.
