Pros and cons both ways...

Pros

Encourages other players with more time but less RL cash, this can help the game

Cons

  • If it isnt done right in a safe and secure manner, the game gets opened up to RL fraud etc.

  • As above, powerbloks can solidify their position through funding many alt accounts and bringing new players into their fold with promises of paid gaming, this detracts from the smaller corps

  • It can diminish the sense of attachment to the game, things given away for free generally don't hold much value to the holder of that asset/char etc

  • Encourages botting/powermining/grinding etc which can burn people out

  • Non PvP activities become primary to those using NIC for game time.... Lost a H.Mech?? OMG that was 0.5 of a timecode!!

Given the small dev team, i would err on the side of caution at this point in the game and concentrate on building more tools to keep players playing and interacting rather than looking for more ways to quickly garner cash.

I agree with this. At the end of the day the ones who benefit most are the developers, as they have money making players grinding away in game, that's why there are so many bots in eve.

On another note we cannot escape the true value of nic as you still pay a sub for time and time in game is still real money. So a really true sandbox is the one that you play for free,  with no micro transactions of course. but who pays the bills?

A secret group keen on studying this simulated 'sandbox' world and using it as a test-bed for economic takeover strategies to seize control and/or topple the larger real world governments.

So Siddy and friends?

I don't really like this idea. It doesn't seem to add anything, it only removes some customization options.

as you can see in the merged in posts - it would do exactly the opposite - adding customization options because bots wont get slowed down by fitting stuff into those slots

No those option already exist. What your taking away is the benefit of not having any modules.

Bumping this for further discussion:

instead of adding an armo that has no mass, i would rather see arms that DO have a mass that cannot be unequipped but "upgraded" with weapons or equip.

Equipping a weapon on such a slot would not increase the mass of the robot (or only by the difference between empty arm and module) and not slowing it down.

I don't really like this idea. It doesn't seem to add anything, it only removes some customization options.

micro transaction possibility here?

Micro transactions are the worst thing u can add to a game u gotta sub for. You mine as well make it f2p and make everything micro trans

I disagree. I think for vanity items it makes sense.... and is a good source of income for developers spending time on implementing. If they are popular, it will make for a strong business case to hire someone just to implement these features so we're not dipping into the talent pool that's going to churn me out some POS's.

If developers are hiring people for vanity items then that is someone they could have hired to make POS's come faster. No matter what vanity items will cut into the development of something else. The only thing with making it micro-transaction only(if you can feasibly acquire it in-game as well then that's not an issue) is that you have to pay extra for the developers to take time out of developing the things you really want. In a sub game micro-transactions are scams.

Go with the Logitech G35, extremely comfortable, durable, 7.1 surround. And you can use the mic at the same time.

And now that I think of it, I rethought the anti-air battery too.
Deployable Missile Battery
4 Missile Slots
Enough grid and cpu to fit medium-type missiles
Extension bonuses:
When deployed, gains the following:
20% bonus to optimal range of missiles per level
20% bonus to targeting range per level
20% bonus to targeting speed per level
20% bonus to damage of missile launchers per level

Well I'm glad you realized that anti-air in this current game would be stupid and useless. But maybe you should ditch the missile idea as well and move towards a simple weapons platform, otherwise this becomes only usable by Pelistal pilots.

Edit: Also how are people supposed to pilot these things if they are deployed without the use of stations, current game mechanics don't allow us to leave our bots in the field.

I think it needs to be something that takes a short time to capture, so you're not sitting around waiting too long.

I disagree, the longer it takes to capture the more potential for PvP. It obviously shouldn't take 24hrs but it shouldn't be 2 minutes either.

Edit: Also whatever the reward is it should take up a lot of cargo space(like raw resources), so you need logistics as well to get the goodies home.

Battles are dynamic though and often you have to react to changing situations quickly.

Yes battles are dynamic, so why do you need to add in a chance mechanic?

**RANDOM ACTS OF VIOLENCE**

Sounds stupid. Chance mechanics may be fun for spectators but not participants in a competitive setting.

The Artemis, whereas it has excellent range, mid to upper 700's, is got line-of-sight issues galore, and also is SLOWER than the Tyrannos, with both at Nav 10 and fitted with decent equipment.

That is completely untrue, max speed for a fully fit Tyrannos is 70, and that's with an alt behind you remote sensor amping so you can fit more lighter range extenders and no local rep.

Well that's silly, factions have nothing to do with industry.

a castel cannot equip industrial modules, prometheus and yagel can. If your playing the first few hours for yourself without any knowledge about the game, its probably better go go blue or yellow.

Is that worth a reset?

NPC's with demobs is just plain mean.

When can we have some?

They exist already... but anything considered 'tough' content shouldn't be without one.

Oh, well, I wouldn't know about those. I haven't ventured off Alpha islands since I got back in to the game a few days ago. My brush with an observer on my miner alt was about all I care to see of nastiness for a time. I have enough EP to get in to heavies, but I'm trodding around in a Castel because I haven't had a chance to make any decent NIC to get me something more substantial yet.

I'm sure I'll be on the Beta islands in no time.. losing bots to 'learning experiences' like demob npc's and roaming kainswarms... Can't wait.

There are demobing spawns on alpha as well.

The only difference I noticed between protectors and regular mobs was that the protectors didn't respawn. WAY to easy for an event, and I imagine the alpha protectors were even easier.

According to Syndic it's currently possible to demob people to 0 kph.

I love the *** out of the ammo changing idea. I also love how in your raid ui it's Siddy getting himself killed.

PIRATES THAT KILL YOU WITH LIGHT BOTS AND LEAVE VERY FAST..

It's a common perception that you must use the highest tech'd bot in order to win over your enemy. This is very untrue, and it's quite easy using good organization to overcome your enemy with a nice slew of dancing lightbots. That's right, we're proud in the fact we have had many mech kills using beginner bots on our enemies. Our enemies will curse our name, but we shout in joy!

The Lemon does not agree. The Lemon knows it can over power army of light bots... As it haz.

The lemon invites the challenge and awaiting the next notch on the LEMON.

Don't forget to add another 5 CIR notches while your at it.

It could also be a bug that a chasy scanner displays the bot as having a medium plate while it actually has a light plate. That has happened before.

If ya can't shoot more then 700 meters then ya don't wrastle.

Heh, its better (and easier) to ALWAYS fit 400 meter guns and never worry about the enemy exploding in your face.

Plus it's very hard use those extra 16 meters and to be exactly 16 extra meters away when the enemy goes pops.  It's still pure pvp fail.

If I am remote repping something that is about to blow up from a close combat bot, should I too be immune or take reduced AOE damage because I too HAVE to be within 100m to provide this support?

This ^^.  The change not only effects blue combat bots but also also many other close-range bots like small remote reppers, small drainers, small energy transfers, etc.

Imagine that you are very low in health and you have a teammate piloting a bot with small remote reppers.  Now he has a choice, go in and try to rep you up (putting himself at great risk), or not repping you at all cuz you are "too risky" to help out.

Eventually that pilot will tire of the close range support for the no-risk longer range support.

So in the end, no one (or very few) people will use any module that has less than 150 meter optimal.  There will be less diversity.  Even less of a reason to use small bots than there is now.

Omg choices! NOT CHOICES! PLEASE ANYTHING BUT CHOICES!!!
