I hope that PvE continues to be possible with PvP fits. I always felt that one of Eve's great failings was the disparity between PvE and PvP fits. Personally I think PvE AI should mimic player combat as closely as possible. Demobs, E-war, remote reps should all have a place in group PvE especially on Beta islands. You should be able to be PvP ready even when enjoy the PvE content.

Indeed, all the UI being drawn on a 2D plane overlayed over the 3D space makes it hard to disern relative distance. I was thinking of getting a 3D screen and glasses but I doubt it would work for Perpetuum and I'm not playing much else at the moment. The system might be able to handle the 3D rendered scene but I can see the 2D overlay being a spanner in the works. Lotro had the same issue from talking to friends that had a 3D setup.

I had to turn to movement sounds off sad

Well its the weekend again and as usual the combat is obscured by a blob of player nameplates. Could we please get some options to help reduce screen clutter.

I'd like to see some more options regarding showing of player name plates. When engagements were closer range it wasnt as big an issue but now that we are getting into longer range mech fights the number of name plates in the same area of the screen forms a mass of names that cover the plants and terrain. This makes getting LOS a lot harder to judge.

My suggestion would be to add an alternative mode in which player names are only displayed when you mouse over thier icon, select a target in landmark or when you lock. In this mode the player icons are coloured by standing rather than the existing white icons for players.
This would clear up the screen a lot and help us to actually SEE whats going on.

Eve servers are located in London, costs them a fortune though for their level of hosting. Would need a lot more subs before Perpetuum could afford that hosting.

You get false positives on your scan if your geoscanning extensions aren't high enough. The area may have been mined out by the horde of miners crawling all over alpha.

Yes. Excessive whining from this one...

Mr. River, why don't you just delete your cargo in the usually extended period of time it takes for us to get from 1000m to optimal weapon range or demob range? This should not be allowed either, IMO, but you have that opportunity.

Does the combat flag go on when you are locked?

Plenty of bots out there moving 100kps+ with 500M + lock range. Gives the pilot about 5 seconds to see you, realize you are going to catch them, and execute a delete. Last night it felt like only a second from when I saw you enter the landmark window til you have me locked, but was probably more like 4. I don't think deleting cargo this way will be an issue.

Recall I was for removing the delete ability, I just didn't think it should be ONLY during combat. Either you can or can't delete cargo. I'm disappointed they chose to fix the delete issue with a special rule.

Combat flag isn't until you have a hostile action initiated, locking doesn't flag you. Means you have plenty of time to delete the cargo. Already seen it happen today. sad

Heard all these exact same arguments about Eve when it launched, PVE is boring, mining is boring, there's no content and so on. So long as the Devs continue to improve the game whilst keeping their running costs low then they'll be fine. They're not after 8mil subs in weeks they're playing the long game. The development costs of this game were TINY compared to most MMO's they don't have big name publishers and investors demanding multimillion $ returns right away.

I'm sure they'll add better PvE and more intresting game systems, its just going to take some time. What they have launched with is very solid, the rest will just take time to add.

But there is no content in pvp too, there are no rewards, no pvp standing only simple list that can be abused by arkhe killing.
No fighting for territory no bounty hunting... whoever have more people will win.
There are no rewards for pvp only griefing. Few teleports that have pvp corp "elites" that you will blow you up or login spawn... or 2 accouts one in arkhe and one log out and spawning when there are something to kill.
Whats the difference between eve and PO ? in eve there are hundreds of star systems in PO you have 6 small islands with few teleports.

Find me someone that is pvping in mech...and find me arkhe on beta...
Its game with potential but should be in  open beta state (free) because of lack of content.

I guess we just look at PvP differently. The thrill of a good fight and the fun of the teamwork is the reward for me.
I've had plenty of small fights often with equal numbers, a few 1 vs 1 duals, a fair few ganks too and some of the horrible blob fights at weekends. The best fights are the 10-20 per side range and we've had a good number of those. Personally I've not seen any log in traps in the time I've played so you must have been unlucky if you think that's the norm.

I'd have classed holding an island and its outposts as territory control. The rewards for PvP are outposts which give you lower production costs for your stuff so you can PvP more and mine less. If you live on the islands as a corp the fights come to you, mine/farm in the quiet times, dock up and get your combat bots out when there is stuff to shoot.

I'll agree that there could really do with adding more islands so more groups can form up and make a presence in PvP zones and that the arkhes should definitely be removed from kill counts but I cant really agree with your view of the PvP content in the game.

At the moment the content is in the PvP, if you don't PvP then I'm not surprised it feels like a grind and you have nothing to do with the NIC. The PvP really underpins the entire game and gives it purpose. Bots are very cheap to produce for a corp, build some with your friends and go blow them up. All the other stuff is just there to support the player driven content.

Try not to fall into the NIC per hour trap. I've seen quite a lot of people boiling the game down into how to make NIC fastest and then saying they're bored. It doesn't really matter how much NIC you have what's important is having fun. So long as you have spare bots and fittings then you really need very little actual NIC.

At this point in time the narrative and epic content you're looking for is what we as players make of the world through our battles and actions. The backstory is just that, its up to us as players to make the rest.

I think the Seth looks pretty stompy yarr

With the exception of Navigation you don't NEED lvl 10 extensions to be effective.

Could even reduce it further to just 3 damage levels as shown on the icon. red=25% damage yellow=50% damage white=75% damage

Lasers are not terrible, they just need more care and attention to use than say missiles.
Lasers are the long range weapon in the game and have good sustained DPS due to fast refire and lower hit dispersion. They use a lot of cap though.
I found them a bit fiddly to use on the intakt as its so low to the ground its easier to have line of sight issues than on a taller bot.

Arkhes, being free, obviously wouldn't drop anything. That would be far too farmable. Everything else dropping salvage would be a nice bonus.

To bad that item does not exist.

Look under Equipment -> Electronic Equipment -> Cargo Scanners

What a lot of the so called 'carebears' seem to not realise is that the 'hard core pvpers' do easily as much if not more building and industry than they do as well as the pvp. The whole point to building robots is to use them to shoot other robots. If there was no pvp there would quickly be no point to building anything. Once you've got your stuff built you need something to do with it.

Peach, most of the area on the beta islands are empty and hardly visited adding more wont make people blob less.  The issue with blobs isn't the effect on single or small groups trying to sneak around beta islands its more of an issue when trying to have a good squad vs squad fight. As I see it the blobs are mainly caused by a 3 factors:

  • Fear of loss and the resulting NIC/reputation hit, safety in numbers.

  • Weekend warriors with little play time. They don't have much time so when they do get on they absolutely want to make it to a fight if there is one going on.

  • Game mechanics, there is no downside to bringing more people. It doesn't matter how skilfully you play if the other side vastly outnumbers you they will take few losses and destroy you.

Fear of loss is down to player psychology, not much the devs can do about that one.
Weekend warriors are totally entitled to play and look for fights so this is also a non-issue.
The only thing that they can do is change the game mechanics to discourage large mindless zergs.

Adding more islands wont stop the blob it'll just spread out the small number of Beta island living players even more and make fights and conflict even less likely.

Ixath I'd just like to point out that  "I don't think there is a single person alive who would sit with me while I mine for 8 hours and twiddle their thumbs." is actually not true. I spent 8 hours watching teleport points just yesterday so our alliance miners could mine and PvE'ers could farm without surprises. I'm not the only one either, there are a ton of us willing to put in the hours for the good of our group. Mind you I have more than one account so I can still do stuff while I scout.

This game is all about forming a group and doing stuff together and sharing the benefits.

Nvidia 460 GTX runs pretty sweet. I can run a client on each screen with 50-60 fps. Big jump up from the 30fps single client I had with the 260 GTX. I still have the shadows on medium but the rest of the sliders are maxed.

The EP difference isn't as much of an issue as you think it is. Seriously stop flogging a dead horse. I've got an early access account and two I bought after launch and I've had no issue with getting kills with my newer characters. The 30K EP difference between my chars hasn't stopped them doing what I needed them to. Seriously, a few % here and there doesn't matter as much as fittings and player skill. You seem to be attributing your fail to a perceived EP difference when in fact there is a strong likelihood the people beating you could have less EP than you.

With my Nvidia 260GTX I was only getting around 30FPS but I upgraded to a Nvidia 460GTX and can now run at 50-60FPS on 2 clients on 2 screens with the shadows on medium.
