This thread was linked in a news story on MMORPG.com recently... Seems you have some competition, Neoxx. The good news is that some major sites may be interested in a 'giveaway' type news item.

Overall this should be good for the game.

Just in case this might be useful, I pulled this from pingplotter:

Packets: Sent = 10, Received = 8, Lost = 2 (20.0%)
Round Trip Times: Minimum = 205ms, Maximum = 214ms, Average = 209ms

211ms average for 10 pings seems good, and is usually what my ping is at in game... But in game right now it feels horrible. I'm avoiding PvP until this smooths out.

Those 3 jumps seem to be biggest culprits on my route, with major packet loss and high/unpredictable pings.... but everything after the first address I listed there is pretty bad for about 10-12 jumps.

The route from my PC to the game server is 23 jumps.

Near Toronto, Canada. Bell Sympatico ISP.

Major N/A lag, disconnects and ping spikes the last few days.

I like these ideas very much. Unfortunately, it seems like perhaps too gigantic a change to make at this point. Basically you're asking for a complete rewrite of the game map!

When they do add another island/more islands hopefully they will take this idea of large landmasses seriously though. 3 bottlenecks to get onto or off of an island is way too few. As you mention, this just makes what are actually pretty large landmasses feel quite tiny after a while, especially for small unaligned corps/groups trying to go on exploring/ganking expeditions.

/signed even though I see a total map rewrite as unrealistic at this point.

Wow, the thread was even called 'Dev Tracker'! I didn't think it would be so easy tongue

Thanks!

goddamn epic sequer hauling music... I might have to play that song next time I'm doing some hauling missions.

Plenty of missile bots have come in handy in our PvP ops to put damage on people in crappy terrain.

Somewhere on the forums it would be nice to find out what the latest posts from the DEVs are. An archive of everything the DEVs post on the forums would be nice, instead of trying to read through every single thread to find something that they have said.

Please correct me very rudely if there already is a feature like this on the forums somewhere...

Thx

There's also a new hotkey binding in the keyboard options that 'locks' the landmarks in place while pressed. You just need to bind it to something.

Missiles = lowest damage, lowest rate of fire, lowest range.

Missiles = Highest alpha-strike, least LOS issues, and often the highest effective range*.

By effective range I mean they don't have to worry about hitting little bumps or trees when firing at a target 300m away. Hell, often when I'm fighting around 100m - 200m with my lasers or EM guns I have trouble getting LOS consistently.

And ya, in the end game you got a range buff, so don't worry about it. Do the kernel research, or just buy them off the market. Prices will come down as the economy matures.

I have faith in Perpetuum because of patches like the one deployed yesterday.

You're right, we do need the carebears. It's a weird kind of symbiosis that exists between those that like to smash NPCs and those that like to smash human players.

I'm all in favor of them adding more PvE content so long as it doesn't totally isolate the PvE people into 'instances' where they can play their single-player may-as-well-be-offline kind of game.

Because then we're really talking about two different games, right? One where carebears can eat their honey totally unmolested by 'evil pvp types' and another game where people are actually interested in territory control, dynamic economies and self-made strategy and tactics pitted against strategy and tactics of their fellow men (and women).

I maintain: take a risk with your bots otherwise you're better off playing Mechwarrior 2 or Oblivion.

(multplied with lwf, proto equip and nav10) thats still a speed advantage.

Oh, and one last *** You to you, whoever you are who I never see while roaming out on the beta islands...

I've never equipped a prototype module on my ewar bot. You seem to think we're freakin mystical ninjas that spring out of the darkness on you. Yes, I have Nav 10. Maybe you should think about getting it. But I don't use prototype modules. L2P please... pleeeease for the love of goddamned Christ Mohommad and Buddah WTF.

so if they are still 1 kph faster then any other bot... (multplied with lwf, proto equip and nav10) thats still a speed advantage.

You're right. But in that case, why nerf them at all?

Frankly the ewars should be faster than the other bots by a significant amount, and not just by 1 kph. 1 kph can be changed by the type of weapons you're fitting, whether you're fitting tunings or ewar modules, etc.

Ewars are supposed to be the fast 'fighter' bots. Learn how to deal with them. Some of you already have. We got stopped twice the other day by a tight group of assaults. If the group is tight, we cannot engage with only ewars without getting one of our bots blown to crap.

This is a L2P (learn to play) issue, and not a balancing issue. I can't even count the number of times I've lost my cameleon any more. Why?

Because :

1) ewar bots have VERY low HP.
2) Despite speed advantage, with the use of geometry you can catch an ewar that makes a bad decision on terrain.
3) Intakts *** the *** out of my cameleon if they can get in firing range... and especially if I have been demobbed.
4) Despite all of the expensive modules I like to put on my ewar that make it worth 10+ million NIC, I can still get caught off guard by a speed fit demobber, or any of the other reasons I listed above.

So you want to talk about whining, how about you all quit whining about paper-thin little ewar bots that terrorize you, corner them and blow them up. Or at the very least you can undock in combat bots and stick together as a cohesive unit and not let them pick you off one at a time...

In Other Words: Learn How To Play

It only just hit me now how alarming the nerfing of ewar speed would be right now. Please, for the love of everything that you love, please do not nerf ewar speed.

Let players play the game a little more and figure out ways around this "issue". Also, as my esteemed colleague Jelan has pointed out, let players get some EP built up so we have properly skilled and fitted EWar Mechs and mechs running around before you make a silly decision like nerfing ewar speed.

Thank you Lupus. You basically articulated most of what I wanted to say. L2P with ewars to counter ewars.

And further, 10 ewars vs. 10 assault bots should be a standoff because ewars cannot safely walk into them. Like Lupus said, we don't all run around with suppressors and ECMs... in fact it's somewhat rare compared to the speed/dps/demob fit.

When ewar gangs come to Hokk, they learn the counter to ewar gangs. Maybe you should try to use OP ewar bots on our island to learn a few tips about how to deal with them.

There already is a counter to ewar gangs... We ran into a couple of them last night. Just bring a few ewars and equal numbers of assaults... and don't MOVE AWAY FROM EACHOTHER TOO FAR. A 10 person ewar gang cannot do much against a tightly formed 10 person assault bot group. I suppose you could coordinate supps and ECMs somehow to give you a chance, but just a couple of waspishes firing on the same ewar target will get popped in a hurry.

I'm disappointed to hear that ewar speed might be nerfed when this is largely a L2P issue.

And lastly, I don't know what makes you think ewar bots are so cheap. These days I'm driving around in a cameleon that is probably worth about 10 million NIC, if not more, if I were to sell it and all its modules on the market. They're called t4 modules, and they're not cheap.

You can always, you know, work together with other people to make your beta island experience safer. Join one of the corps in one of the larger alliances, and I'm sure they'll help facilitate your farming expeditions on the beta islands. Grow some balls, feel the adrenaline, take a risk and head out to the beta islands.

Otherwise, you might want to try Dungeon Siege or Oblivion or something, if solo PvE is your thing.

I don't see anything wrong with responding to negative feedback. There's nothing to change in response to positive feedback, obviously.

I would also support some sort of credit for ideas from players that get implemented. But sometimes that's difficult to do, because multiple people come up with similar ideas and discuss them in various mediums at various times.

Melia, if you're just camping at a mob spawn and farming loot and kernels, I would recommend bringing along a field container. You can just toss all your loot in there because that's not affected by the combat flag. Besides, you can stockpile a much more massive pile of loot than just filling up your own cargo.

Word.
