Topic: Lag & disconnects since 01.22.

In the last few days we got many posts on the forum by players who report that they experience unusually high lag, rubberbanding or disconnects since around 01.22.

There have been no changes in network code (you would have noticed that, since it would require a server restart) so we can rule that out.

The majority of European players (including us) have no such issues, the reports came mostly from US and Australian/NZ players. So currently the most probable reason is that some transatlantic node has gone haywire.

In order to confirm this theory (or some other) we'd like to ask you who have this problem to post your country/region here, optionally the name of your ISP.

Additionally you can also use pingplotter and check which hop seems to be the culprit. The IP to trace is 195.228.152.152

To easier pinpoint the problem please only post if this problem started in the last few days, and do not post here if you have always had high latency simply because of your location.

Re: Lag & disconnects since 01.22.

traceroutes would be better, yes? I mean, people can have the same ISP and live right next to each other and take different routes to the same ip address. Need to find out where they overlap. . . . .

US East Coast, Frontier (DSL) only had major issues recently. I am usually steady at 200-300 but get some serious spikes and N/A now.

Re: Lag & disconnects since 01.22.

US Central Standard, Charter Cable - Small episodes of lag or rubber banding in recent days.  I thought it was due to what I thought was more people being logged on than usual.  The areas where I had it had a half dozen or more people in the area within range to be seen on my minimap.

Re: Lag & disconnects since 01.22.

just open start menu>run>and type in cmd. Should open command prompt. Type: tracert 195.228.152.152 no need for fancy programs, this is embedded in windows since invention of internet. Usually you can skip the first 3-5 hops as they are your pc, router, modem and dynamic IP which you probably don't want everyone to know.

this was my third tracert. the first, it was perpetuum server that *, and the second it was 81.183.0.45 that *

and if you are having this problem, it would be best to traceroute if you see you are lagging, otherwise you will have normal numbers and all will appear fine during the traceroute. May just be a hop somewhere getting overloaded at peak hours.

Re: Lag & disconnects since 01.22.

I only recommended pingplotter because it's a bit more comprehensible for the average user and it can also rule out spikes.

Re: Lag & disconnects since 01.22.

over the last 10 traces, mostly i have 12 hops, sometimes, the 12th and 13th are both the perp server. very odd. Mainly it will come down to if most having the problem are hopping on the same route after a point, then it's somewhere in there. Good luck with this smile

Confirming this has only happened recently. I am from Sydney Australia (ISP = Telstra). I have used pingplotter before, and not seen packet loss like this prior to the last few days.

US west coast Comcast 22/4 meg connection. Its not constant, but appears to happen most in US prime time.  Other wise I get random NA spikes.  The last few days have been hit or miss that way.

If you can't kill it, don't make it mad.

Re: Lag & disconnects since 01.22.

Here's an idea. Run ping plotter while playing the game and wait for a spike. When the spike happens see if Ping plotter registers it too.

That's a good way to tell if it's the server or the route handling. Also take a screen shot when the lag starts.

The Game

Re: Lag & disconnects since 01.22.

I admit I dont know much about this sort of stuff, but wouldn't my pingplotter results show that there is an issue with the traffic on the way to the server? Keep in mind, I have run ping plotter maybe 3-4 weeks ago, and not seen any sort of packet loss (minimal at best). Therefore it could be a transatlantic node going haywire - like I said - I dont know much about it, I'm just trying to apply logic.

Re: Lag & disconnects since 01.22.

Sydney, NSW. Optusnet.com.au highspeed cable

From Pingplotter the only packet losses were recorded at 130.117.51.74 and 154.54.37.133 at 10 - 30% loss.

Re: Lag & disconnects since 01.22.

This hub:

te7-7.ccr01.bud01.atlas.cogentco.com

seems to be where trouble starts.  It may not be the only one, but a search also found it listed on DSLreports in their "Router Watch" report as a nasty lately:

http://www.dslreports.com/routerwatch/t … gentco.com

I may suspect the other "b" ones after it, too.  Such as "" .bts01. "" which is the first culprit.  They consistently choke and lose packets every time I've tested.

Re: Lag & disconnects since 01.22.

US Central - Comcast Cable

The Enclave - A mature, friendly, and cooperative corporation.

Re: Lag & disconnects since 01.22.

Emailed a screenie of pingplotter to you guys yesterday.
10-30% packet loss when tested last night

Re: Lag & disconnects since 01.22.

I tried pingplotter a few days back when the problem started, at 1 second intervals I'm sitting on around 400ms-450.
Yet while in game it sits on about the same but spikes up to over 1000ms, as well as the N/A, yet ping plotter does not show this.
I have also noticed that the Lag meter in game constantly shifts yet when I stop it freezes on what it was before stopping, only to start shifting again once moving.

Started 22/01/11 rubber banding and jumping from 400  to 1000 plus ms then to N/A.
has not stopped since.

Re: Lag & disconnects since 01.22.

Sydney Australia, been away for 3 weeks, but on my return (24/1/2011) its been unplayable.
Lag has been 700+ with constant N/A.

Please note the following:
1st week of Perpetuum, Lag = 250-350 ms
Currently ALL other games i have installed with active accounts (EQ2, WoW, & Aion) have lag of 300-ish

AS an Australian, we are use to LAG, as 99% of the internet is in the US, and 1% in EU, and 0% in Australia tongue

But when I can access other games, streaming video, and other latency intolerant applications just fine, yet Perpetuum is completely unuseable... its clearly not an issue with Australia (or the US) and the core networks around the world....

Its something allot closer to where these Servers are Hosted......

I really enjoy this game, been a fane of Mechwarrior and the having that genre turned into a MMO is just awesome....  but this LAG will be the reason I dont renew my 3 accounts.. my mate doesnt renew his 2 accounts, and most of the AU/NZ & US crew leave...

It has nothing to do with PvP carebare grand alliance domination.. its has EVERYTHING to do with unplayable network latency.

Anyway... I really hope this gets addressed soon; I think I have 6 weeks left on my sub.... and the EP is ticking over which is good.... but if I cant get the quality that was experience in the 1st week... i've no choice but to leave....  which is very sad....

I appreciate you guys are from Hungary, and its so very refreshing to see talent come from outside of the US/EU for a change...

but seriously....  you wont increase of keep your subsriptions numbers with in this unplayable state...

And dont worry about money..... I personally, (i am sure most if not all others) will gladly pay $15 a month to get playable latency (for Aussie thats sub 300ms, for the US that should be sub 80 ms).

Anyway... just some feed back smile
