Hi.  I reported this once before (recently) in a ticket.  The Devs responded quickly, politely and professionally, as always.

It just happened again so I'll ask if anyone else is getting this: I had an open field container while mining, about 97m away.  I was depositing stuff into it.  Then it just vanished.  The 1st time was on an Alpha Island; the second on a Beta.

(What I usually do is plant a can in the middle of the field, start mining at about 95-97m and work my way towards it, to get the most use out of it.  Once I get to it, I can continue into the other half of the field until I hit about 95m again.)

Now the can symbol had a full orange ring on it, because it was open.  It vanished while I was looking at an info pane, so I didn't actually see it go, but when I went to put some more ore in it, it was gone.

I suppose it might have been some sort of lag issue, or a zone disconnect (I have had those not become evident until back in a terminal, when I try to deploy again), or perhaps an error in the distance reading on the overview.

This is only the 2nd time that it has happened, and I don't much care about the contents of the container (ony worth a mill or so), so I won't bother ticketing it again.

However, if it is becoming reproducible, I am a bit worried about the future.

One other person told me that they had once had a can disappear too, but that's just two people.

Anyone else ever had one vanish while it was open?

For now, I am just going to make sure that, if I have to mine into a can again, I am within 80 or so metres of it.  If it still vanishes that close, then I think there is a problem.

Yes, I lost 200U+ of Epriton a couple weeks ago and got told to go *** myself on the reimbursement.  Same thing happened to me and I was maybe 60m at most away from the can which had already been open for like 3 hours.

I don't know how feasible this is, but I'd love to see a web based graphical production management set up.  It could be something really cool and elaborate like a Flash and/or HTML5 version of sitting in the station you logged out in, maybe even with Chat access where you could manipulate your production stuff, refine ores, etc the same as if you had a real client doing it or even something real simple to start with like a run X cycles of X items that are already installed CTs.

I'm assuming eventually this kind of thing could become a phone/tablet app, but I'd rather see something more agnostic first (aka another option under account management -> manage production, or something), especially since I don't have a phone wink

"The lessons learned about Perpetuum during our recent wars have been significant, of course. Particularly in the effectiveness of its various specialised mechs and other bots. While many people favour the purity of damage and tank, there are some other possibilities: mechs which slow enemies from a great range, mechs which dampen or jam enemy targeting systems, and – most intriguingly – robots which “signal mask”, allowing them to move within just a few hundred metres of enemy robots before being spotted. For guerilla warfare these have proven formidable – working out how to fight them off has been one of the trickiest challenges facing our PvP players."

I knew those bastards had signal maskers.  Decent article, it could have been a bit more detailed in the political arena as it glosses over quite a lot.

Arga wrote:

People tend to play Perp for long periods of time, mostely because the game demands it. In PVP you have to run around for hours to find a fight, in mining, you have to sit there for hours watching the U's tick up.

Many PVP players toss a miner out on a second account, because running around isn't difficult, and they let the miner go idle if they find PVP. Miners will have multiple miner accounts, and watch a movie or do 'something else' while they are mining.

In any case you look at, no single profession adequately keeps players entertained in Perp.

The flip side is, that more casual players, with 1 account and short play times, are also not getting entertained. The pvp player, with 1 account, is either a 100% drain on their corporation or spending 4/7 of their time grinding for NIC to replace bots, 3/7 of their time looking for pvp, and only 1/7 of their time actually doing what they want. Same with the miner, that has one account and an hour to mine, has to spend to make (4) trips to the mining site; initial drive, back after mining, out to empty can, back with ore. Even if the field is only 7 minutes away, that 28 minutes of their hour... 1/2 their time, spent just driving (Combat PVE players have the same issues too)... (btw, roaming may only steal another 5 mins, but that's 20% of their time).

So. Put those together, and you have a game, the requires the player to play for long periods of time (like farmers needing to be in the tractor cab) but the entertainment value of that time is minimal, so they do something else while playing (like the farmer's example).

How can we improve the game? I'll let someone else worry about the PVP side.

Firstly, is reduce the travel time the casual miner needs, its the low hanging fruit. Reduce the volume of ore, or add in the compression 'system', so mining bots can hold the equivalent of 30 minutes of ore; that's 20 mins of travel and finding ore, 30 mins mining (the same they would normally get) and 10 mins to plan, market, or just not feel rushed.

Have something else that uses mining skills that results in direct NIC, like plasma farming. That is, introduce a mineral that has no production value but can be sold directly to Nia for NIC; or exchanged for research.

And, if your first thought was "That's going to make ORE way too expensive because players won't be mining for the market", congratulations, you've finally seen the flaw in the entire system. The entire game's production, hinges on the miners, mining. Recall Janurary '11, when titan was .35 nic. Yeah, that was because the game had lots of miners supplying the market. You don't hear miners complaining now, because the ones that are left are getting .65 nic now.

Really, for something that the entire game depends on to keep it going, they should really REALLY pay more attention to it.

+1, well written.

LoL what's this bs, we don't have tons of ep into light bots guys. Everyone thinks we have level 10 light bots. You can only have like level 5-6 and kill heavies. Just gotta have the right support ie ewar lights and have right situation. Mara has like level 6 and i've killed tons of guys using a light bot...

Dude.  Really? Anyone who has sat on 62nd comms for a light bot tournament knows this isn't true.  I can start naming people, if you want, who have explicitly said they have light bots 8 9 or 10 who routinely fight in the tournament against newbies and wear a 62nd tag.  Are you one of them? I don't recall but I know others do for sure.

Hmm, a more interesting aspect of this poll, is wth are we doing for 3-6 hours a day smile

Typically, I'll spend the first part of my session clearing up factory runs from the previous day and setting up mats for new runs, then go farm kernels for 2 hours, and finish off with a calming mining excursion.  I'll switch up the farming with some artifact hunting or maybe harvesting instead of mining.

mine mine mine roam mine haul haul haul roam haul haul mine mine roam haul haul roam etc.

i'm often roaming while i'm mining but you can't do that while hauling ;/  and probably more hauling than i've listed .. travel time is the biggest grind in game by far; even with highways high nav and t4 frames it's still ridiculous.

EDIT: especially with move 50m stop move 100m stop move 30m stop lag and having to relog every 3rd teleport jump.  i hope to *** god they at least fix that in the patch today.

lvl 3 transport mission leaving tellesis to icsa bring Cassino file #2 to icsa is broken.  Sometimes it works sometimes it vanishes for no reason.  I'm aware of the 6/10 rule it's not that.  Nanouval rep is 3.09 so it's not that either.

it is a harsh unnecessary penalty on a newbie, if i were brand new and that happened to me in my first week of playing i'd quit and never look back -- especially if on a trial account.  the 2880 penalty should only happen after say 2 weeks or a month.

not realy haveing touble killing now that i am in a mech am doing pretty well even killing t4 now just needed to get sismic 7 to be able to hit them.

seismic doesn't make it easier to hit them, missle guidance does, siesmic makes the damage that they actually take higher, look at the in game help for the formulas.

Dadar wrote:

the training time would be fine if each bot had there own role and content but sadly they don't 90% of the spawns are just hordes of fast spawning light bots few have 1 or 2 mechs not going to say all are like this as i found whole spawns of mechs on the new islands

but  even the starting content is diffucult for a new player i am almost month in and just getting to point in ep were i can handle spawns

quite true, it's not much easier at 2 months either.

Dadar wrote:

maybe its me but a new player can't kill 5 lights in under 30 seconds and most of the mission spawns are on around 30 second spawn timer which leaves the new guy out there always fighting 5 or more bots at once all the time if the game were more popular and there were more new players out there wouldt be a problem as would be people to group with or more then likely somebody else at the spawn  but the fact is there realy isn't that many of us new guys

most that I started with have already quit due to fact they either lost there bots to the insane spawn rate lack of varity of missions or they actualy did the grind to level 2 pulled there first mission ran out lost there bot cause they got dem on them could't get away as tactics do nothin against ew could put a planet in the way and they can still hit ya. so they  quit.

as arga stated, it's best to try to pull them out a couple at a time or pull them all in a line and let the ones in the back reset.

Dadar wrote:

I know assults can do these things i need a mech to do but everyone i have seen do them in asslut have lost there bots many times or they have a heck of alot more ep then me I know from my years in eve you can do alot with a smaller ship if you have the skills to back it up.

assaults are gimped hard, so are light bots, there is no comparison unless you're a swarm.

Dadar wrote:

as for folks telling me i should drive yellow i would love to try yellow but I already pay for two accounts sadly my combat went green cause at that time green seemed to be more fun I made mistakes bought alot of skills that weren't needed so had to use my reset now its 20% pen only lose 10k ep but 10k is alot when you only have 50k so its green or bust lol.

no one faction is the best, unfortunately for you, the green weapon skills don't carry over to the other 2 factions well so dedicated green pilots are pretty much stuck in green where as others can put the points in to the other color and drive both with far less EP invested.

Dadar wrote:

so all and all till i got the skills i have now i spent a week driveing a mech with small mods just to have the edge but after much thought I would say it would be no problem waiting a month if was actualy more content geared for small bots  but to be honest pve content is lacking at any level in this game at the moment have high hopes for the future tho. maybe someday will see them remove presison and sesimic skill and actualy make useing a small bot in pvp worth while.

don't hold your breath, the game is *HEAVILY* mech focused.  i use lights and assaults a lot myself for pvp but i have no delusions of grandeur, the only thing i can reliably kill are lower tier industrial bots and that's with over 3 mos of EP on a combat focused character who has points in nothing else.

Dadar wrote:

I know one of my fav roles in eve was to fly my assult ship circles around a battleship while they tried to hit me with thos big guns and miss try that here and your just a container waiting to be looted.

either way thanks for all the tips some of them I have put into practice and they are working well.

that won't work here at all, even a brand new mech pilot with crap targeting skills can murder you in a few volleys, especially if they have the range and even more especially if they get you with a demob so you can't use terrain.

your only chance to kill a mech is to have a group if you're in lights, and you better have ewar.

I wouldn't be overly concerned.  MMORPG.com doesn't have a particularly good reputation.  Their staff is generally unprofessional, and their community is one of the worst I've seen.

That article should have been called "Bill Murphy's Favorite Non-Fantasy MMOs".  The fact that it has the MMORPG.com name on it, given some of the horrible games that actually made the list, makes the credibility of that site even more suspect.

There should have been a few games on that list, including Perpetuum, that weren't on there.  I can't believe he actually listed a couple of the games he did - I would personally be embarrassed to have my name attached to it.

Well, bad reputation or not, I don't know of another site with as extensive a database of MMOs particularly with sub-forums where people can post their experiences without having whatever corporation owns the game's official forums censor them.

I personally found out about Perpetuum from their Games List before there were any ads at all.  I'm probably not alone although I know the majority of players are finding out via word of mouth in EVE.

EDIT: However, I will say nearly all their editorials are poorly veiled ads.

Hello Kind Sir wrote:

Much like Eve, you kinda need to let your character marinate for a month or two before you can do much beyond killing a Light Bot spawn or missions.

To me, there seems to be a large skill jump between Light Bot spawns and Light Bot + Ewar spawn because the Drainers/Neuters are vastly powerful vs. anything smaller than a Mech.

every bot i've ever lost to npcs was because of demobs/neuts/drainers in that order .. they are wicked .. and as arga points out it's all about range and lock time.  you lock first fire a couple volleys pull back break their lock without breaking yours rush in fire again repeat and you're not getting hit much or even at all.  with greens it can be even easier.  find some impassable terrain for them and sit just behind the lip of a hill and rain down on them; although i still think missile trajectory should be higher, especially on smalls and maybe a bit faster to compensate.

You would think that if it's the only link out as you said before (I have no reason to doubt you I just have looked myself) that there would be enough people *** that they would do something about it.  I don't just mean for Perpetuum but for all the businesses and whoever else using that link.

MMORPG.com has an issue with Perpetuum.  Its probably related to the launch era ratings boost on the site where the site's owners locked Perpetuum's hyper meter.  Its unfortunate because the game does need an influx of new players to help keep the markets going.

Hmm.. I was not aware of that .. and Perpetuum has ads on there .. which is even more odd cause you know .. a lot of MMORPG.com editorials tend to favor their customers who are paying for ads (I'm looking at Rift especially).

This article just came out.

There are some really crappy half finished games on this list that Perpetuum is definitely better than.  I commented in that thread already and someone already mentioned it missing before I did.

Great idea.  I have to say I've never heard of your formats before but doing some quick research it seems that GIMP supports .eps and .svg and there are some other freeware/opensource programs on this wiki for .ai if you don't have access to it.

So .. I'm sitting at work listening to the podcast.  I see we're opening with corp intel now.

Does this mean that all corp drama will be in the opening credits?  I already spoke my peace about the TBA thing to him (*** move, especially with dhasselhoff and trying to ninja recruit people with PMs, etc) and in corp, but it's not a big deal really since we've already got other people who have somewhat advanced research and access to other alliance corp's prototypers for what we don't have.  I see you didn't mention that we caught another m2s spy, one of memnoch's alts, and kicked him after he did a really poor job lying to stay in but maybe that happened after the broadcast, fuzzy timeline.

I'd like to know what happened with Arachnix and RG behind the scenes personally.  Anyone seen Jita?  What happened to NUTY? Etc, etc, etc.

I agree with Styx about seeing a lot of new corps, specifically FOOM, AET, and some others.  I've noticed some huge increases in numbers but people with inactive accounts also got 15 free days so I think we'll see a drop off after that expires here at the end of the week.

Listening to the blob talk .. it's pretty funny after the Brightstone intrusion yesterday with 35 vs 50 .. which was a good fight.   I also agree with the interference should increase explosion damage idea, which has been posted on the forums previously as well.  I don't think explosion damage even featured in to this fight at all even with people bunched up on top of each other as much as they were.

It's also true that people will always try to bring more people.  Like Gremrod I prefer smaller fights, most of the time, but sometimes the big fights are fun too.  Unfortunately the server lag and whatnot usually means that what happens is a lot of shuffle fighting waiting for people to get disconnected and then picking them off while they're logged out.

ERPs/Weapon Stabs: I disagree here, I don't think most people even have weapon stabilizers or ERPs first of all.  Secondly it does hurt lights even more than they already are, particularly already gimped assaults.  I think the devs consider this working as intended since the cost on advanced robotics is significantly higher than basic and forces you to have basic at 4 .. It seems like they consider this a natural progression and that mechs are supposed to be very superior.

Account reset: Don't care.  People generally figure out who you are based on your personality and speech patterns and whatnot.  The population isn't so big that you can just disappear like you could if there were 250,000 subs.  As for losing all your relations .. well .. that part *sucks*.  I'd like to see some skills reset options maybe in addition to a total reset, so if you drop a ton of points in to recycling for example and decide that it sucks and you're not gonna use it you can reset that skill and use the EP elsewhere.  Especially with the price increases I'd like my accounts to stay viable and not have to buy more.

Mining changes: Completely disagree with everyone there.  Styx "I think people should all be in one spot far away from protection so I can *** you more easily", Kalsius "I agree, we always do ops with mechs/heavies defending us so that wouldn't effect us at all".  As a solo miner that's crap.  For newbie miners, that's crap, for small corps that's crap.  Everyone sees the game through their own experience and seems to have problems seeing it from others perspectives.  I think mining has been messed with enough.  Leave it alone for awhile.

As for the faction mining stuff, yes that's easy to notice if you primarily stay on one island.  Attalica has barely any stermonit and liqiuzit for example.

I don't think there's been enough time to see the real effects of the mining changes.  I've already noticed practically everything on the market going up in price .. hard to tell if this is people buying stuff and reselling it or not.

Taxing refinery .. taxing wastage? Really? Is every Styx idea about making the game harder on everyone who didn't exploit their way to end game?

MMORPG article.  I read it, it's accurate, there are some missing types, the comments section on that article is good.

...

Well, good work again, not my favorite episode but I still appreciate you guys doing them and they are getting better (far better mic/audio quality this time).  Looking forward to the next one, keep it up.

EDIT: I'm basically commenting as I listen so .. lots of edits forthcoming ;D

if your account was inactive you should have got 15 free days added to your account with the terra incognita patch which would still have a few days left on it.  why not give it a try?

my miner has noticed a nice lowering in the time it takes to get a sequer of stuff with the base mineral per cycle mined increase although with the regen nerf some spots are empty and hit hard.  i haven't personally scanned the new islands for stuff but i have seen a far number of rivelers and whatnot on hershfield and tellesis.

of course industrial characters are welcome in all corps, including mine (shameless plug) so if you're interested in coming back and want beta access in a corp with a strong industrial base send a PM to Crepitus in game and i can give you details about AXE wink
