While I agree it would be a neat way to reward the new influx...I think it sets the wrong precedent for future interruptions and can make being subscribed for a month during trouble time give your account more ep then during a stable time.

Interesting concept. Could be neat.

I think it's necessarily inconvenient -- as a viable strategy for roaming is to stumble upon an op, run off the inhabitants and keep an eye on the can for any force that may be trying to rescue the contents. If you up this to 30 minutes... it's just that much longer someone is forced to 'camp' your container... which is unnecessarily inconvenient smile

You should NOT have capitalized NOT... it makes you sound REALLY dramatic.

And as I posted else where, most of the community would have supported AC by buying paint jobs. But eventually devs can only live on toast and beans for so long (literally) and even a small dedicated community can't keep 10 devs on the payroll for years.

I wasn’t aware that the dev’s situation was that bad. Of course then, the whole debat doesn’t really make sense.
If there is an urgent need of funds for the dev, then a bit of RMT seems a good compromise.

I do hope with us Eve refugees, they wont need to implement more RMT. tongue

The toaster burned up... so it's only bread and beans...

I don't understand the issue. Your post is unclear to my feeble and limited intellect.

Can everyone just remain calm?  It won't be long before this little episode will be a distant memory, and the long-term effect of it will be a much larger playerbase.  Isn't that worth a few days of server naughtiness?

How About they NEED more bandwidth, and JUST maybe there in a location where they CANT upgrade, they still took my 10 dollars knowing they could not handle the players. SO what does that tell you. ALSO a mmo that is only holding 350 players???? you got to be kidding me. 350, but there still taking peoples money. I want a refund NOW.

While i might not wholeheartedly agree with the expression here, there is a point. I too, am pretty convinced that bandwidth and or hardware is the issue. Either way, you cant support more players, yet you still sell the game. I find that , troubling to say the least.

We've played flawlessly with more players then are currently online before (900+). The population has stabilized a bit since then, lots of changes and patches went by, now things aren't running as efficiently as they should and are likely unnecessarily 'raping' the hardware due to some inefficiencies or bugs in the features that have been added.

I am getting frustrating when I try to log on, I am thwarted by the population cap.

The good news is that it appears there is a devoted dev team in this game.  This can only be good, so I have to keep telling myself to be patient, and let these guys figure out a solution <while I continue to spam the login button>.

Simultaneously, I ponder the affects of so many EvE players entering the Perpetuum populace.  It's akin to 100K American GI's being stationed at some little backwater town in a 3rd world country.  Our EvE-centric culture will definitely affect the big picture.  I for one want to be a respectful tourist in our new world.

I do have to comment that I don't see PvP here without better mouse/keyboard responsiveness.  I come from the Team Fortress II environment as well as EvE.  The mouse interaction is okay for PvE, but I'm thinking I need to figure out hotkeys (or something) cuz the existing mouse interface is gonna get me killed fast.  In fact, I would call it "completely bogus".  But, I am hoping it's my fault, and that I simply have to learn more about hotkeys and/or other techniques of UI acceleration.  For example: right-click to get context menu - forced to double left click multiple times to invoke action item IF BIG IF the mouse action actually works.  Like I said, I think I'm doing something wrong.

Case study - Firing on NPC - double left click opponent (if lucky, it will primary that target - if unlucky, keep clicking and/or invoke mouse until target primary'ed.  Hit space bar to fire all weapons and/or use mouse to left click individual weapons when space bar function for some reason will not result in all weapons firing.  Like I said, this is okay for PvE, but in PvP = rapid defeat/death/buy new mech.

So far, I do like the environment, but mechanics can be improved greatly IMHO.  Navigation is non-intuitive and really needs work, again, maybe I'm stupid about efficient game mechanics - I'll give this one some more learning curve.  Ability to multitask is good : example - primary a target, lock a secondary target, approach drop container and open while firing on primary - focus automatically goes to formerly secondary target (if secondary target is previously selected)  - one click to primary - space bar to fire - wash, rinse, repeat.  <if the keys/mouse clicks actually work>

kk thks buh-bye

There are a lot of shortcuts and in my opinion, better ways, to do some of the things you described. For instance, click on target in landmarks, press r for primary, f if you want to secondary. You can also turn on show passable terrain in your minimap which may help as well. Give it a little more time -- I find the current controls very accommodating and convenient.

I think Sade put it best... It's about giving the people that want something shiny... something shiny... but not taking development 'funding' from the people that pay the sub and don't want that ***.

I have a sneaking suspicion these are going to be fairly inexpensive MT's... which obviously if successful can help fund the hiring of more people to make more shiney's for the people that want them.

I am sure people wont. Jealousy is a comon human feeling. And it's often about the dumbest things.

That said, i dont care, really, about the RMT for the paint. I just take the example of what's happening in Eve JUST for a simple-tiny-ugly-futile-monocle.

How do you sleep at night knowing that I walk around in a heavy mech and you can't for a month?

I think we both see where this is going -- but I hope we can both agree that vanity items are nothing to worry about...who cares... if you feel you need a pink robot for $1 dollar... you buy a pink robot for $1 dollar....

These same concepts hold true in real life... however in real life, money can also buy power... as stated in perpetuum this will not be the case.

I believe RMT fluff items help a game.  First they allow the company to get more money.  If someone wants to pay more for something that has no effect it supports the game I'm playing without affecting me.  Second it tends to prevent cancellation.  It's more investment which makes canceling harder.

Yeah I agree. But I think a P2P MMO should have a business model that allow the company to avoid the use of RMT.

On a personnal note, I would be glad to pay more, like 15/month, if there is no RMT in game. It's my view of "supporting the game company".

Gamers equality is an important gameplay feature imho. That's what makes the great games and the great communities.

You don't feel equal if your bot isn't pink?

umm, hate to point this out but there is already an established wiki. http://foom.electric-mayhem.org/wiki/
its being actively improved by a small team, but it IS an open wiki. There is a section for all corps to put in their information as well.

Is it really 'open' if it is administered by an involved party?

I appreciate what you guys have done and continue to do -- but at the same time, having useful information published in a place that can't be as easily censored is a better solution IMO.

Stop repeating what i say Zoom...

They have stated clearly on the dev blog that there will be no pay2win.

If I understand your request properly this is in the game -- you just have to put it on  your UI.

Pros and cons both ways...

Pros

Encourages other players with more time but less RL cash, this can help the game

Cons

  • If it isnt done right in a safe and secure manner, the game gets opened up to RL fraud etc.

  • As above, powerbloks can solidify their position through funding many alt accounts and bringing new players into their fold with promises of paid gaming, this detracts from the smaller corps

  • It can diminish the sense of attachment to the game, things given away for free generally don't hold much value to the holder of that asset/char etc

  • Encourages botting/powermining/grinding etc which can burn people out

  • Non PvP activities become primary to those using NIC for game time.... Lost a H.Mech?? OMG that was 0.5 of a timecode!!

Given the small dev team, i would err on the side of caution at this point in the game and concentrate on building more tools to keep players playing and interacting rather than looking for more ways to quickly garner cash.

I agree with this. At the end of the day the ones who benefit most are the developers, as they have money making players grinding away in game, that's why there are so many bots in eve.

On another note we cannot escape the true value of nic as you still pay a sub for time and time in game is still real money. So a really true sandbox is the one that you play for free,  with no micro transactions of course. but who pays the bills?

A secret group keen on studying this simulated 'sandbox' world and using it as a test-bed for economic takeover strategies to seize control and/or topple the larger real world governments.

While this is neat, I think it's unnecessary. Teamspeak or Ventrilo are the preferred option. In games where in game chat exists most people tend to use the external options anyway.

After all, comms have become a place to gather and chat that spans more then any one game. They harbor camaraderie and friendship before you press the login button and after you press the logout button.

I think a better solution is to not allow an account under 30 days old to respec at all. wink
