Mouse over decimal accuracy would be nice.. As it stands right now much of this math smacks of errors and there is no way for the community at large to help find those errors, or more to the point create useful tools for others to use..

The last of which I have to think is actually quite harmful to the game rather than being "fun to figure out" as the devs insist.

Hey guys, has any progress been made at figuring out how to get the actual material required values?

So far none of the formulas above work, or are off by a good 3 or 4 % one way or the other..  Is this entirely attributed to rounding issues or are we still trying to figure out the actual math?

They aren't correct.  But I'll move my complaints to that thread.

Looks like this thread has some info.. going to test to see if they are correct;

http://forums.perpetuum-online.com/topi … er-things/

hrmm, your little hint: isn't helpful at all.

If you know of a post that has these numbers already explained then link it.. I don't see it and can't find one on the forums, and yes I have looked.

Otherwise, I don't see why the general forum is the wrong place to ask questions or have a discussion..

Well since someone else said they aren't supposed to release information at all and since I don't want to get anyone in trouble, I'll keep the devs name private.  But it was a dev..

So now I'm back to trying to figure out this formula..  anyone have a thought?

To be fair, he probably didn't know how it worked.

Which means he shouldn't have answered the question..  I'm a software developer for IBM and when someone asks me a question that I don't know the answer to, I don't answer it I go find the answer or get someone else to provide it.. I certainly don't just make something up..

But he was very positive in his responses so I believed he was talking from a stance of knowledge..  You sure you didn't doctor that picture? tongue (kidding I know its real.. )

Okay so.. I don't suppose anyone has the formula I'm after?

Go figure.

God dammit that means all the math that I have been trying to do to figure out their formula is wrong..  SO now not only is the dev's policy to not reveal anything, but its also to flat out lie and give false information..

Thanks Styx.. sad

It looks like Material Ratio in the factory window is your skills plus something else..

So myself and one of my guildies have been pondering these numbers and what they mean for a while and just can't seem to get the math to work..

Things that we know that are DEV confirmed;

1.  The information panel for a given item gives the minimum required amounts of each component and no matter what your skills or relations you will never be able to go lower than that.  Example;  A castel takes 2500 Titanium, and can never go below it.

That means that at 100% CT ME, 100% Relation Ratio, and 100% Material Ratio that castel will require 2500 titanium.

2.  At 50% CTME, 0% Relation Ratio, 0% Material Ratio it takes double the minimum required amount.  Example; A castel says 2500 titanium, but at 50%, 0, 0 it requires 5000.

Beyond that it's all guess work.

Firstly, does the Relation ratio and the material ratio mean anything?

I have seen several different formula put up by users suggesting they don't..  Some have the users Extensions some don't.. some have the Relation ratio in it.. some don't.. Most don't have the Material ratios at all... etc..

Someone must have figured this out already..  So far nothing I do will get these numbers to play right..  I can get close, but usually my numbers fail once you go high or low.. etc..

Thoughts?

I suppose wine on Ubuntu has the same structure of directory like Debian.
Try this.
Change name /home/user/.wine to /home/user/.wine2
Run wineboot
Create on the new /home/user/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Perpetuum/
and copy the game files inside.
Reinstall d3dx9 with winetricks.
And try to run into a terminal "wine Perpetuum.exe".
If dont run, you can see errors on the terminal.

This was very helpful as it looks like its not using my graphics card!  This laptop has an ati card in it so it's a driver issue somewhere..

here's what the terminal dumped;

Now I just have to figure out why my graphics card isn't being used correctly..

(which is odd because my screen works great, and even compiz works just fine.. )

And only run "wine Perpetuum.exe" on install directory.

Works fine for me

Ubuntu here latest drivers and latest wine..  d3dx9 is installed but it simply will not run.. it errors out every time..

Clearly our mech's need big boot knives like they had in Avatar..

Umm, try looking under the "News" tab.  They give patch notes there everytime they patch anything.

No they don't.  See Zoom's post.. Maybe you should know what you're talking about before you throw down with the attitude..

@Zoom -- Actually I think you'd be surprised.. Your users do want to know about "database happiness" issues and minor stuff like adding the icon when you do it.. not later..

Just my ¢.02..

PS.. SVN UP is your friend .. smile

Hey guys.. Love the game and understand the need for server restarts and what not..

but could you give us some idea of what you're doing each time you guys patch?  just something.. it seems we have seen a lot of stealth patching going on recently and that's kind of frustrating for the user base.. I think we like knowing whats going on and why..

Thanks for everything..

So one thing that seems VERY important in this game is the relation of the bots..  Green > Yellow > Blue > Green...etc..  This is hard on some of us.. hehe

When we target a ship it'd be darn handy if we could get a logo on the rots icon as to which side it was on, so we could correctly deal with it..

Its a minor thing I know.. but it would help those of us with this issue greatly.. Thanks

The context here is clearly MMO's.. so for any of our more pedantic readers, I will amend my statement to say.. Name one MMO that actively prevents multiple accounts..

Name ONE game that actively prevents multiple accounts..

To say that a person has an advantage because he multiboxes is in my mind no reason not to do something...

If someone wants to fork over the cash to run multiple accounts, then so be it.. it's their money, and their right..  You on the other hand don't get to call foul because they are doing so..

You have the same opportunity to multibox that everyone else does and choose not to..

I have always liked the AI in a game thing..  But you want to intentionally give the AI limits..  For example, you can only input x number of commands per skill level.. or it only can execute one command per minute.. or can only hold so much cargo.. etc..

Mining probably should be more dangerous.. Right now the alpha islands are completely safe with regards to mining.. That would be fine if you could only get 3 or 4 main resources, but as it stands you can get all but one.. feh..

If you make the AI thing 100% programmable such that it's indistinguishable from a real person, then you've turned the game into "Automation Online" and everyone will be doing that, instead of playing..  That degrades the game play and puts a great deal of stress on the servers..

I like the AI thing, but it'd be tough to do..

I really don't like the idea of chat bubbles over the head of the bots, but I very much want a ranged chat like Campana describes..  And I'm pretty sure that would solve the OP's request too..

So;

-1 to bubble chat
+1 to ranged sector chat

I can't get it to work at all.. can you give me the exact system call you're making to run the game under wine please..

I had this happening to me for a while and it turned out to be heat related..

My old motherboard had a safety feature that would shut the computer down when the motherboard (specifically the CPU) got too hot..

So maybe run the game in window mode with a CPU temp program running to see how hot your CPU is getting..   Open the case and blow out the dust bunnies too smile

GPU temp can also be an issue so check that too..

Hpe this helps..

Howdy guys,

So I'd be interested in either getting a real linux client or getting the windows client working under linux in wine..

And I'm sure there are folks out there that want a mac client..

Do you guys have any intention of creating a client for either mac or linux, or at the very least making the windows client friendlier to wine users?

Thanks

I love the idea of drones.. combat, mining..etc..  Do it when you guys can do it right.. but please do it..
