Necro here: Kind of silly that I can't go to an outpost without leaving a bot there or reprocessing something worth quite a bit of NIC.  Some kind of personal transport only bot would be nice.

Just a little bit of extra checks clientside to the autopilot could make it way more effective.  X3 got decent autopiloting to work in 3D space, even.  There was an interesting source I used on a paper regarding their low-overhead method that could let them simulate the entire universe at once in 10x speed.

Player built highways is a definite yes, yes.

Central building that controls turrets and gives them ammo: adds new mechanic that allows one to take out an entire base's continual ability to defend itself.

Second: Dafuq how do turrets not use ammo already?  Material and NIC sink opportunity for Gamma corps dangling right there, unmolested.
