This would be nice. I would love to have a way to tell roughly how much is left in a plant.

For everybody who posts here about not liking the idea, keep in mind that you are helping to keep this thread at the top of this forum. So lets ignore it and let it go away.

I think it was a smart move on Avatars side to not promote the game more.
They sure had faith in their product and knew their server(s) couldnt handle masses of angry noobs pounding on the starter mobs.
this game will promote itself through mouth propaganda.

So true.. We are the troops populating the server and filling the markets. People new at these games would get a negative experience if everybody is in the noob area and the markets arent filled yet.

One thing that must change is the noob area itself. Older players are farming the bots needed to furfill assignments. New players dont have a chance to lock any bot.

I honestly dont know where these complaints come from.
Every combat orientated player should have fast target locking anyway and the spawn rate is not that bad.
I never see more than 3 players on one spot and they dont farm in mechs or anything.
The moment a new spawn pops up you should secondary lock it, should always have the max target possible locked, so you can switch to primary fast when you current target is dead or even shoot the secondary target once , so it s locked for you and then switch back.
I also see players shooting drones from 10 m distance with their lasers, taking more time for kills than needed.
Also equip this sensor enhancer things that accelerate your target lock also.
Sure you will miss a few but you can run a bounty hunter mission in no time.

Because the guy who downloaded the game just an hour ago and is just down doing the tutorial missions for the first time is going to have maxed out the appropriate skills for combat to compete with people who have been in the game since launch or even beta.

Also, not everyone doing the missions chose to be combat oriented.

But thanks for the pointers. This actually helps me a lot.

This, this is very annoying. Very rude and will probably be where many will simply get stuck. I almost did. Was able to pick off a few from the other guy by grabing one that might spawn just a second after he went for the first. But it was really a matter of getting lucky with the timing and the fact that there was only one like him where I was. If there were two vets farming I would have been screwed. Perhaps make a handful of of special spawn drones that only show for those who have the tutorial. Or spawn a group of distinctly named drones for the mission that don't drop any loot so vets wont bother with them.

But this digresses from the point of the thread.

Definitely do more videos. I mentioned the game to a friend and the first thing he did was go to the website to find a video. Your launch trailer is great.

I would be interested to know what database engine they use.

Its amazing what you can get when you combined some of funding with a great idea and a dozen very creative geeks. And I use that terms with the all respect that it should carry. It is great to see how geek culture transcends boarders. Keep up the good work.

Oh, and you should annotate the photo. Who is who and what do they do?

"being of sound and disposing mind and memory and over the age of eighteen years, I do hereby bequeath access to my Perpetuum account with 100 years of pre-purchased subscription time to my nerdiest grandchild."

Bet that would raise a few eyebrows at the reading of your will after your death.
My sister knows I am a nerd, she just has yet to fully grok the depth of that nerdiness.

Lets make it clear about "item shop".

There are no item shops in AAA subscription based games.

EQ2, They have had a item shop since long before extended. And other game come very close. WoW essentially has an item shop now with selling pets and the sparkle pony. You can buy pets in Aion now as well. I think the difference you may be in that they mostly sell fluff items though in EQ2 you can get exp boosting potions.

The question is, does it effect game play. The problem is, lots of things effect game play, how much are you willing to tolerate. Vanity pets, purely cosmetic clothing, dyes and furniture for housing surely falls into the category of not effecting game play. But it never stops there. What about mounts? That effects the game but only really in terms of being a convenience. So you can move around faster in the game with out paying for it in game. Not that big a thing. What about an exp boost potion? in a game like WoW or EQ2 I would say, not a big deal. Everybody hits max level within a few months anyway so it really only changes the time frame of when that happens. The real end game competition happens after level cap there. In a game like Perpetuum or EVE, you never get to a level cap so arguably anything that effects skill gain effects the end game.

EQ2 should be seen as a cautionary tail in terms of P2P games and items stores. All there stuff started off as fluff and 95% of it still is. But now you can also get mounts with stats, cloaks with stats and special abilities and exp potions. Did they cross the line? Did they go too far? Don't know, it is hard to say, for some they did and they don't play any more.

All I would say to avatar creations at this point would be, be careful. You cannot put the genie back into the bottle once it is out and you do have the opportunity, right now, to stay out of the item shop craze as a matter of principle. You also stand to earn some of your customers on the basis of sticking to that principle if you do. Especially if CCP ends up going "to far" with there item shop.

Your email address is your login name so you need a different one for each account. But then, that is what gmail or yahoo are for. smile

In the future we might offer extra services like avatar change or decorational stuff, but nothing that will give you the slightest advantage in game.

You just became my hero. But this means we will hold you to it. smile

not to be too hard on the devs as they have done so much with so few but I think we will have a significantly harder chore in finding a Perpetuum Avatar that actually looks reasonably good. Yeesh.

Add: And you dudes with the bug-eyes. Knock it off! Your freaking me out.

True, this definitely helps and I think it will be an adequate solution. I would simply rather see rewards balanced (nerfed) and have the "Tax" more directly impact what people are trying to get from this exploit.

"The same thing we do every night - try to take over the world!"

From the perspective that things are not moving along very fast, yeah, it would seem to be a hardcore game. That really just depends on how much you want how fast. And as has been pointed out, this is the slow build up period for the economy.

Still, I think the basic design of EP (and SP for EVE) is a very good one for the casual players. You may get behind in economic terms, which is no small thing but at least you don't get behind in character development. If you want to play only 2 hrs a night you will still progress in your skill at the same rate as the hardcore guy. He just may be richer.

Any game that involves competition will encourage the competitive to put in high levels of effort. That is something that cannot ever be entirely avoided. Unless you are willing to have no development over time in your game and then it wouldn't be an MMO.

I think this system simply gives people a way to convert EP into NIC. What is to keep me from creating an extra account just for the purpose of running these missions? Sure I wouldn't want to do this with the account I plan to play from. I wouldn't want to waste the EP on that account but $10 for a month of EP gives you 15 deletes plus 7 for the initial 20k you start with plus the 4 that you wont delete at the end. 26 runs for $10 is how much NIC?

On the other hand. If deletes cost as much in NIC as you tend to get from running the missions then a new account would really only be worth the 4 initial characters. A $3 trial for 4 runs is not quite as good. Plus, too many email address after a while to set up.

Keep EP pure. That is, let it directly correlate ones tenure in the game to the amount of development (though extentions) they have. Don't turn it into just another currency.

I got into the game last night. Couldn't get the tutorial to progress past how to swivel your camera. It just wasn't catching it for me. After 30 minutes of not being able to shoot or mine or anything beyond move and swivel and getting mostly non-answers from help chat. I was about ready to forget about this game right there.

Came back after a bit to see if it would help to start a new character. Maybe I closed a window I shouldn't have or something. Took a few tries still to get the tutorial to work but it finally moved forward. Up to that point I wasn't really sure there was a tutorial.

Now I have two characters. I hate having vestigial characters lying about. Tried to delete. Got to wait 24 hours. No big deal.

Today I run into this post. First reaction? They are going to charge me EP for making a second agent because their tutorial is bugged? Nice.

Well, at least we have the three days. I am thankful for that. Just pointing out that a week from now some other guy will probably have a similar experience and wont be quite so pleased to be charged from the 1 resource which can't be replaced. At least from the perspective of those who hope to maximize their skill gain.

What would be much better would be to IMO, would be to charge NIC that slightly exceeds the value of the rewards from the tutorial missions. This would make it pointless to farm them. Second, normalize the rewards against the other mission. It is nice to have a boost at the beginning but rather disappointing to see your rewards drop out as you move to regular missions.
