I summon yee old thread to the front page!

How have things been ?

Is there still tons of camping of teh gates?

I hear they are camping! I thought they were supposed to roam?

Well it looks like they're moving along at around 50kph.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1310775/npcroming1.jpg

Took a minute or so for them to close in.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1310775/npcroming2.jpg

I docked and after about 3-5 minutes they were far enough away that I could deploy.

I don't see much wrong with them as of yet. It is a good way to combat afk/macro mining.

Though I have heard people complain they died when they deployed. That seems to be unlucky, but you really can't complain about it. You however could complain that the feature wasn't explained well enough before it was implemented.

One thing that could be kinda problematic is the spawn rate. Does anyone have time frames for how often a group passes by an outpost?

Sir I am sorry to inform you of this point.

If they remove the Participatory INVULNERABILITY Candy Land area the defenders are at risk as well.

Yes I'm ignoring the fact that there will be scouts on both sides. You cannot fix the fact that people will scout 24/7.

We're at the gate because we have to defend what is ours.

If there were more islands that were 1 step removed from alpha. I mean you would have to go through Beta islands to get to (heh) Gamma islands.

Alpha > Beta

Leave the gates the same.

Beta > Gamma
(Eve like gates)

short invulnerability
short jump timer
if you perform any action your invulnerability timer drops immediately, but the jump timer (session timer) does not.

Gamma <> Gamma (and future islands)

Same as Beta to Gamma, but have people spawn further away from the Gate.

Sure you do. You rage spawn Arkies and gather all the intel you need with no risk or loss what so ever. And this is exactly what happens. We do it also.

That's another fix they need to patch in. No Ark respawns on Beta. You bring them their manually from Alpha. If you die in an Ark in Beta and do not have any robots in station (other than an Ark) = you spawn back in Alpha in Ark, etc.

I concede to your point.

I 110% agree with your opinion on Arkhies.. I've been on the irc channel complaining about them since my first beta experience.

They're ridiculously useful.

I would go one further and say that Arkhies are only handed out at the beginning of the game. You also shouldn't be able to enter beta lands in one.

When you have a risk vs reward type situation like the beta islands why hand someone something that reduces the risk to 0?

Nothing happened, because they're INVULNERABLE, we left because hey.. I DON'T want to waste my time waiting on someone that is INVULNERABLE.

I find the game more of a waste of time now than I ever have.

All we do is babysit people that are INVULNERABLE.

It's the same on the attacking end also though. If they did leave the gate and came to you, if you did not wish to engage or did not have the numbers to fight them, you do the same thing = you sit outside your station and double click Enter if they attack.

Sucks both ways. PvP in this game atm is totally conceptual. We both waste hours of time playing cat and mouse. Sucks. Needs fixing/addressed on both ends no doubt. It's not just the gates, but the gates would be a good start. I cannot imagine trying to play EvE with a gate system like we have in PE, it would be horrible.

Yes I would run it is the smart thing to do.

Though your understanding of HHO, where you would find me, is not correct.  If you force us into the station WE CANNOT GATHER INTEL.

So it isn't the same and hardly has much to do with gates. Also if I remember correctly. When I exit the station my INVUL lasts 10 seconds and that means I am going to die if you're there in numbers. There is no safe imaginary circle I can enter to wait out my session timer (gate timer whatever).

Gates != Outposts.

I am at work so I cannot make this a full entertaining reply.

I don't believe we should hijack this thread as well.

MOAR LAND!

I agree there needs to be more land.

You know why people hang out at the gates all the time?

THE ENEMY IS SITTING THERE INVULNERABLE SO WE HAVE TO SIT THERE WITH THEM BABYSITTING... WHEN WE COULD BE ENJOYING THE GAME...

You know what happened the other day?

We saw a group forming on Sehvosky, so we mustered our forces...

Nothing happened, because they're INVULNERABLE, we left because hey.. I DON'T want to waste my time waiting on someone that is INVULNERABLE.

I find the game more of a waste of time now than I ever have.

All we do is babysit people that are INVULNERABLE.

The current gate mechanic obviously doesn't work, so change it, if it doesn't work that way, change it.

The way the gates are setup now, the attacking force always has the advantage, they're INVULNERABLE until they DECIDE they want to fight.

Maybe I am a bit crazy as I am ignoring all other issues.

Look at that.. 1 hour of our lives wasted and it happens every day all day.

My reply is just as ridiculous as the OP.

I do like the fact that he mentioned an atrophy of reputation standing over time.

That is a neat idea.

Umad?

I'm saying that people should be careful what they wish for, because they might get it!
It seems people want Perpetuum to be more like Eve Online with respect to gate camps.
In Eve Online, gate camps are the 'poor man's PvP' - they exist to while away the time until a real battle happens.
The sad thing is that people might feel obliged to partake in a boring gate camp for 'the good of the team'.
In Eve Online, it's the less powerful corps that end up gate camping as a career.
Why devote time to a to a substitute battle when you could concentrate an the real deal?

Did you watch the video, just curious.

I think your problem is not with the game or that you won't purchase a second account.

You're mad at the people that are using the market more efficiently. It is the potential ability of someone else that scares you, life isn't fair.. There is someone better than you at everything, always.

Today, a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration – that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively. There's no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we're the imagination of ourselves.

Here's Tom with the weather.

This thread is ridiculous...

This is just me, but I think it's really unfair that a player can make a new account for an industry alt, skill it up in only one very focused way, and then be highly competitive as an industrial manufacturer - they're not really playing with the toon at all! They're just using it as a convenient skill-dump that gets pulled out every so often.

I think people who actually play their characters on the Beta Island should have an advantage over someone that never plays the game, uhh, leaves Alpha Islands.

I believe it would be appropriate to make Alpha Lifers enjoy degraded drops, less kernels, so they cannot seriously compete via huge incomes, L1 kernels, and baby robots kills, moar L1 kernels.

As it stands Beta Islanders are outmatched by their squandering counterparts, Alpha lifers,  whom make more money from loot, market, and everything else without a possibility of  putting anything on the line.

So that means without purchasing another account I cannot compete with these inborn Alpha lifers.

I enjoyed this exercise.

Yeah..

Gates

30 second invul
if you move it drops
if you turn on a module it drops
if you target someone it drops
if you breath it drops

30 second jump timer

You cannot be interacted with while you have an invul timer. You cannot complain about being locked while unable to act.

Ohh, and for the people out there that think invul timers should be longer. If you're on a slow internet connection so what some people don't even have electricity. If you're unable to purchase a computer that doesn't struggle loading, on low settings, before invul fades, so what [...]

*edit: Offensive. - DEV Zoom

Look at that I've given you sound advice, I care about you, really I do.

Secondly I really like Eclipse Phase and I am thinking of quiting Perpetuum for it. I mean cmon! it has freaking real consequences, no need to have four accounts, and absolutely no safe zones where we are forced to play, "super happy kitty fun quid pro quo kitty kitty fun fun polar adventures online, oh and I see what you're doing! 2"
