It occurred to me how good a program like this is.

I remembered my early days and how hard i struggled for gear.

In respect to HYDRA's willingness to do battle, Line said this:

Theres something to be said for moderation though I guess.
In general, dont be afraid to test your limits.
Bots are replaceable, experience is priceless.

I guess in general I need to rephrase my definition. Thanks for the input Celebro.

On the subject of anyone going to contested islands for profit . . .

Many Nians may not be aware that every Beta Outpost regularly (every 6-16 hours?) has an intrusion event, whether anyone shows up or not.

At the conclusion of the event (60 min), a reward is dropped in the form of a field can with contents worth 7 - 30 mill nic in : beacons, cortexes, epriton, decoders etc.

A new player with a small fast bot has the potential to scoop this can, uncontested, and return to Alpha to sell your prizes; almost guaranteed sales in the millions, possibly tens of millions

In all honesty, it seems the only benefit of Beta is these intrusion event loot drops. Almost everything else, as Syndic said, can be found safely on Alpha

I'm amazed beta isnt crawling with fast mover lights and assaults just waiting to pounce on these. Its like a leperachaun dropping a pot of gold, twice per day, per outpost with no strings attached; and many times, after 15 minutes, the loot can just pops with no master to claim it.

OBJECTIVE BASED PvP

Objective based PvP, as opposed to irrational or passionate PvP,  stems from a clan's desire to accomplish goals or claim rewards not offered in safe Alpha islands, but instead found in free-for-all PvP territories.

In the course of the pursuit of these dangerous rewards, conflicts arise for whatever reason when two or more clans come into contact on Beta or Gamma islands. In most cases these meetings end up in violence.

Objective based PvP corporations seek to protect themselves or advance their aims through military power and the ability to accomplish the task, in the face of enemy friction.

example of objective based pvp:

EPRITON MINING ON BETA. Without Epriton, clan production is limited.

A clan is driven to desperation and forced to attempt mining of this mineral in dangerous lands.

In the course of mining, the owner of the island engages.

The mining corporation defends themselves with the idea that top priority is the safe return of this valuable mineral at the cost of combat and possible loss.

Win condition for the island owner: The destruction, ransom, or expulsion of the mining clan from their island.

Win condition for the mining clan: The safe extraction of minerals to corp producers and factories at minimal loss of defensive robots, by destroying the attacking force, delay tactics, or total escape to safety.

***Destruction of opposing bots and kill count is NOT necessarily the priority; Island defense and profit are the driving factors.

HYDRA is an Objective Based PvP clan.

/Numiquol Blue Assault-Class Combat Support Fighter
/Minimal Electronic Warfare
/Fair damage output
/Self Repair
/Added Health
/2500ep surplus with initial 20,000 ep starting point.

***This build is meant to give a new player the capability to be effective in group combat. It's role is designed to be a swift, decent armored de-buffer with support DPS (Damage per second) capability. A dangerous and inexpensive Kit. You wont be killing veterans right away, but this design will make you good group support for PvE or PvP. It forces any enemy to react to it's threat or be seriously hampered and damaged by its potential.

***Remember, less gear means more speed. Consider dropping one gun for added velocity. / light weight frames are great for added speed, but make your bot vulnerable to one form of electronic warfare (demobilizer) and lowers your health. / Light armor plates are great for added health and defense against demobilizer, but at a cost of increased weight and slower speed. /  Use light weight frame for fast patrols where speed is imperative. Use armor plates when time isnt as much of a factor and enemy contact is likely or for PVE farming.

I cant imagine the OP is very happy with game as he is missing out on the one of the largest aspects of the game. Teamwork.

I remember my first few days in game corp-less. I remember being excited about the prospects of the game but thinking it seemed empty. Then I made some friends. The game came alive and had meaning.

I feel for you guys.
You get a new shiney game and you wanna jump out and start kickin azz right away trying out new bots, exploring the world etc.

If youre like me, you are impatient and just wanna get in the action. Thankfully I was born with an alarm that goes off before making any decisions that will affect my future in game. Lucky for me.

I made a thread that may help PVE/PVP DPS characters spend some points and have a little overview clarity. Check it out.

Hold out with the extensions you already have and try to enjoy yourself with what ya picked. This is a long term game. There is nothing you could have done on your first roll that a week probably cant fix.

Hold on to that 'Trump' card and play it much later when the time is REALLY right.

I whole heartedly agree with Toku in that Nav is used in EVERY aspect of the game, and that Nav is EXTREMELY important. But new players should know the facts before making a decision.

New player starts with 20,000 ep.
Nav 6 - costs 1,620ep (leaves 18,380ep)
Nav 9 - costs 8,235ep  (leaves 11,765ep)
Nav 10 - costs 14,985ep (leaves 5,015ep)

Other mandatory skills for a PVE/PVP character with combat attributes
Assault Bot Skills (minimum)
Racial robot control 4 - 4,536
Basic robotics 4 -1,350

Basic PVE/PVP DPS weapon skills
Accelerated target locking 5 - 2,025
Armor repair 3 - 209
Mechanics 4 - free
Complex Mechanics 3 - 960
Energy management 3 - 2,745
Accumulator expansion 3 - 1,373
Reactor expansion 5 - 1,098
Basic racial weapon 3 - 840
Improved weapon range extensions 3 - ~1200
Precision weapon skills 3 - ~900
Rate of fire extensions 3 - ~1200

With Nav 6 total is = 20,340ep (day 1) Fully loaded Baphomet/T3 light weight frame 72kph

With Nav 8 total is = 23,918 (day 3)

With Nav 9 total is = 26,955 (day 5)

With Nav 10 total is = 33,705 (day 9)

-Speed is extremely important in pvp
-The ability to make nic and pve is also extremely important
-EP's are free, bots are not. (in most peoples cases)
-Crap DPS for your first 3, 5, 9 days in game can be frustrating
-Nav 6,7,8 IS do-able with a cheap T3 frame and can still keep up with a battlegroup in a fully loaded assault bot with some minimum fighting skills.
-Nav 10 on day 1 will make PVE cash making difficult at best and probably keep you out of an assault bot (main pve bot for new players) for days to come.
-Nav 10 from day 1 will make you competitive in PvP right off the bat, speed-wise but lacking in all other aspects (accumulator, dps, target locking speed, armor, repair etc)

Believe me.
Not one person in Perpetuum will tell you Nav 6 is a bad idea.
Many would probably scream that Nav 9 should be done on day 1. In many ways they are right.

My suggestion, Remove the navigation skill. This is already something that everyone has to spend thier EP on and its the first (or should be) skill new players get to 9 or 10. When a skill becomes like this, it stops being relevant and is just an EP sink; which is not good with a a 1 EP / sec fixed system.

Adjust the base speed of the bots to the equivalent of Nav 10, and remove the skill. Vet players already have this skill to 10 and new players will benefit with quicker travel times from the start.

"I'm wondering, how quick can I take part in PvP if I start fresh?"
Morte (Immortal Legacy) often has less than 7 day old characters in quick speed patrol groups. Some members join patrols in under 3 days of gameplay. It is possible with the right extensions to pvp in a group on day one.

"Is there some builds that are viable quicker?"
High navigation is always a good thing in pvp. But in reality, all you NEED to have is a light bot with some weapons, a cheap t3 light weight frame, min speed of roughly 70 to keep up with most patrol and high speed mech groups. Doing DPS always makes you viable; adding a demobilizer to your light bot makes you scary to any enemy when you are in a group PvP setting.

There are also many other ways a new player can be very viable as support in a battlegroup even as early as your first day. The key is finding a PvP corp willing to sit and spend time with you in voice chat to get you set up and viable quickly.
