You did a nice job capturing the impact of terrain, both upon tactical maneuvering and overall visual interest.  Good work!

I just gave up on Freelancer this summer due to declining server populations.  Hopefully this game will live up to the buzz (and it's anticipated delivery schedule).

Thanks for the link!

P.S. Oddly, I just went back to some of the websites of still-active Freelancer servers and saw no mention of the game.

Maybe there's merit to being able to opt out, but frankly I like it as it is.

Local chat was one of the first things I noticed was missing when I started my trial account.  Adding it was a great idea!

Another alteration that would add interest to the game would be to have the NPCs actually fight each other.  Seems I read in the lore that there is a war going on, and yet, the NPCs all seem to co-exist peacefully enough.

Another player mentioned a desire to un-dock and feel as though they are in the middle of a war.  I agree.  Currently the only war is the one created by players, so it is completely absent on Alpha islands.  Thus, new players do not see much in the way of visual action except what they create themselves.

After reading a number of posts in the trial accounts section that complained about a lack of action that draws you into the game, I had the following idea:

I think the game could benefit from one more island.  Specifically, a PvP island that could be sparked to from nearly anywhere.  There would be no way to get a bot off of the island.  Equipment and bots on the island would be free or at most cost 10% of normal values, and everything that exists in the game would be available to buy.  The idea of course, is that anytime anyone wanted to fight another person, they could get there with minimal effort and fight at very little expense.

The island could be listed as a training simulator, perhaps, and kills from the island probably wouldn't go onto the kill board.  One of the tutorial missions would include a requirement to do some training on this island so everyone would quickly see the PvP aspect of the game.

I bet it would quickly become the most active island in the game.

Thank you for the speedy replies, all!

I have been getting some in-game help, too, so I appreciate that advice as well.

To other noobs:

If you started on Daoden and got stuck on this one, too, go to the north end of the island, teleport to Tellesis (or something similar) and you'll find a bunch of Helioptris on the island.  I found plenty within plain view from where I appeared after telepoting.

P.S. I stand corrected on the, "Devs aren't reading this" comment; rather than edit it out, I'll simply admit I was wrong!

I'm really trying hard to like this game.  It seems like there's a great deal of potential and new mods always cause some new problems...

But, having gotten through the bugged mining missions with the use of directional detectors, I'm now trying to work through some harvester missions.  The current one:  Harvest Helioptris on Daoden.  After spending about two hours tooling around Daoden looking for Helioptris, I decided it might be better to search for it on the web.  After an hour of non-productivity, I came across a little gem in the update notes suggesting there is no helioptris on Daoden anymore.

Is this correct?

If so, can someone suggest where I might find some Helioptris in my entry-level bot? (not to mention how to get there)

To the devs:
The lack of responses to other's posts suggests you're not reading this thread, and anyone can do the math that says an estimated 500 accounts at US$10/month per account means this is probably a part-time job.  Nonetheless, you really need to get the tutorials worked out.  Reading through the forums, this is costing you subscriptions every week.

For other 1-2 hour old players such as myself, I'll add this note:

There is no Titan ore at the point labeled with the red "a" on your map.  The tutorial apparently sends you to the wrong location.

Try the area well east of Matsu Shoto Teleport by the water (near Matsu Shotu II teleport or something similar) and you'll see good deposits (big yellow and orange indicators) that will enable you to complete the tutorial.

To the developers:
Seems like a nice game, but if you want new players to stay then you really need to make the tutorials accurate.
