I think the influx of new players is great!

I noticed something was up last night while heading back to ICS-Alpha station to get some missiles. I was like, damn...that's a lot of players on my overview. I didn't think much of it at the time, since I've been living in an outpost so long and never see anybody. But now it all makes sense! lol

But I say welcome new players! I'm an EVE player too. I think you will feel right at home here.

Hell, I'd say to the vets to log off for the time being and let as many new players access the game as possible right now.  Shutting a new player out the first time he tries to play is much worse than an 8 month vet not logging in 1 day.

Yeah, 8-month vet here who also plays EVE.

I've been keeping up with what's going on and I agree that it's better to let the new guys in than it is for me to get in.

I'll check back later, but I'm not really concerned atm. Hope you guys enjoy Perpetuum in the meanwhile. It's not as big of a game as EVE, but I've seen it grow quite a bit over the last (almost) year.

What about this - Remove Alpha islands and replace them with Beta islands. Remove all the safe zones, make people at station able to lock people outside of station who are camping it.

Cheers.

So you get home from work, log into Perpetuum, check immediate station vicinity, no one within locking distance. Accept mission, undock from station, 20 reds 400m away start chasing you. They catch and destroy you within 30 seconds. Log off, play another game.

The problem is, you can't force everyone to be PvPers. You have to appeal to the different playstyles: soloists, objective-driven PvPers, industrialists, griefers, mission-runners, explorers, etc., if you want your game to flourish.

Taking away the safe zones without giving players a way to do missions/mining in relative safety makes the game a griefer's paradise. This is fine for griefers, because they don't care about the health of a game. If the game implodes, they'll just move on to the next game that has the pvp mechanics they like.

Actually, what about this:

* Remove the safe zone at the teleporters, so you have to blind jump into Beta island and can get WTFPWNED by a blob camp before your screen even loads.

* When you jump FROM Beta island TO Alpha island, you are flagged for PvP for 5 minutes and can get WTFPWNED by a carebear blob camp before your screen even loads.

I'm assuming Alpha stations will be like Jita in EVE - the major hub of all trading. PvPers will eventually need to bring their stuff into Alpha to sell and restock.

It creates a beautiful circle of destruction: carebears get killed when they go into Beta islands to harvest resources, and leet PvPers get killed when they teleport into Alpha islands to sell/restock at the trading hubs.

If this change was made, I bet you would get a lot more carebears into PvP.

If you guys are thinking you can jump into this game, and a week later be an amazing mech pilot, you have no idea what game this one is heavily influenced by. (Hint: it starts with an 'E' and ends with an 'E', and there's a 'V' in the middle.)

Hate to say it, but... go back to WoW.

Huh, well I play EVE and I agree with the other posters that this game does seem to be lacking in any kind of logical bot progression or higher purpose.

You absolutely CAN make more money in your assault bot farming L1 mission spawns. So why do L2 missions? Good question!

And what's the purpose of PvP in Perpetuum right now? For fun? To learn about PvP? I need a REASON to go to the beta islands and wade through gate gankers. If the game gives me a good reason, I'll gladly organize a squad to go bust some skulls in PvP. But so far, I haven't heard or seen any compelling reason to go to the beta islands. If I want to PvP just for the sake of it, I'll just flag myself and run around on the alpha island. No need to make a long trip anywhere.

So at the end of the day, we have a shell of a game here. It has potential, yes. But the problem is, after a month of grinding missions and AFK mining, there is nothing new for carebears to do. Go to the Beta island and grind more missions and mine more ore? Why? So I can have the added risk of getting ganked by a swarm of desperate PvPers?

So yes, please tell everyone to go back to WoW. That's an excellent way to fix the problems with this game. People like YOU need to go back to WoW, because the rest of us want a better game.
