Topic: light bot / small weapons

either start fixing the balance of small stuff towards "one robot, one player, one specialisation"

or lower the damn complexity
of basic robotics to max [2] and light weapons to [1]

the difference in EP between bots and mech specialisation is only 50k EP, but the resulting usability of the bots does nowhere closely reflect the high specialisation costs (i know, light ewars are an exception to some degree, but they have an additional extension to train)

dont bring the number argument - if you can bring the number of lights that are necessary to make them powerfull, a few weeks later you could bring the same number in mechs that would be exponentially more powerfull, and everything above basic robotics lvl4 and basic laser/missile/em-weapon control 5 would be wasted EP.

Re: light bot / small weapons

Should we consider this as numbers?

With lesser complexity it will be even more easier to train a really devastating assault. multiply that on player numbers, add extremelly cheap production cost and voila everyone in lights/assaults again.

Atm high complexity is the only limit to keep those skills on lvl 5 most the time.

Re: light bot / small weapons

how many of those killmails can you post?

i can even dig up a killmail where a STC noob lost his artemis to two prometheus, and one of those was me fuuu

and tbh - the times when assault roams have been the norm, was kinda more lively then the current boring, slow and especially seldom PvP fights that happen more on the forums and general chat, then on the battlefield...

Re: light bot / small weapons

Current PvP is boring because of population number. Add 500+ newbies and you will get those roamings. But I don't think you want them to zerg everyone and everything with lights/assaults almost right from the start, and zerg successfully.

Different classes need different styles of play. No offence, but if you don't know how to use a bot of speific class, that doesn't mean it will be useless waste of EP to level that bot.

In my opinion, there should be more specialisations, bots and stuff, that will make that "EP waste" less "waste". But atm DEVs are busy developing other things we are all waiting for. I just hope they will return to developing stuff after that.

Re: light bot / small weapons

Change the EP pricing formula so new players spend less to get up to L8 in a skill, make up for it in L8 -> L10 costs to maintain roughly same EP investment.

Basically, like EVE. Going from 1 to 4 is easy, going to 4 to 5 is a wait.

2 problems solved.

Quite honestly I never understood the need for 10 levels in each skill, but yes changing the formula in this way would go some way to solving some of the problems, and would mean vets could get that little extra bonus by specialising, but would only be one or two levels above the average newer player, rather than now where vets are lvl 9-10 in a bunch of skills where newer guys are at 5-6, thats a LOT of extra bonus the older players are getting, too much imo.

Re: light bot / small weapons

this would be achieved by lowering the complexity... no need to change the formula.

yet, its the less desireable bandaid fix.

Re: light bot / small weapons

Lowering the complexity means everyone skills up to 10 faster.

Changing the formula means newbies can compete faster, instead of "sub for 3 months then come PVP" or w/e it is now.

^^^This. I don't really think vets need to train any faster, newbies on the other hand do.
