Topic: PvP 'flagged' NPC bug

http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p301 … ue-PvP.png

That is a screenshot of what I saw.

I started a conversation with a GM about it and he told me it was some kind of glitch that shows some NPC"s as being players - flagged for PvP.

Today, earlier, there was a rather heated discussion in the Help! channel on this topic.  Someone said they had been blown up by a player named "Exiled Grunt" and targeting that player had flagged THEM for PvP.  They were killed by "2 players" - the named one -AND- another who joined in.

If this is just a video glitch, that's one thing - confusing as hell to trials and other new players perhaps but just a video glitch.

If the client sees them as being involved in PvP - that is a different matter -- griefer material against those who may not even know HOW to "fire all guns" yet.

In either case, being as this happened just outside of a starter terminal - I think it should be reviewed with some haste to see what the problem is.

Not for those like myself, that don't panic and understand at least the basics of PvP in this game, but for those trying this game out for the first time.  Those trials need a bit of protection.

Closer view of the names.  The photo place resizes and converts images so I clipped that chunk out to see it better.

Re: PvP 'flagged' NPC bug

Hmm.. i understand what your trying to say, in that there should be protection for players who just startered against alpha island flagged players.

Perhaps a warning popup, saying "you are about to engage another player in pvp combat, would you like to continue?" (Have an option next to it to disable this warning in the future, like the "your are teleporting to a pvp(beta) island one"

Unless there is a warning like that, its been a while since i started.

Perhaps in the future a "PvP tutorial", although how this would be acheived is up to the devs.

As for the original bug, it isn't one, those are players baiting people with characters that differ in name in the fact that one uses a lower case "L", and the other an upper case "i", which looking the same as an "l" in the game font .

I think i just worked out that you could have 32 of that same looking named character, if my math is right.

Re: PvP 'flagged' NPC bug

what exactly is the issue?

NPCs do not have PVP flags
NPCs do not have a Corp ID
NPCs show up as red dots on radar
NPCs cannot be talked to.

should DEVs/GMs look out for player with marginal different names then npcs and put them on a blacklist?

Re: PvP 'flagged' NPC bug

I assume these names are very similar to NPC names, but are changed by using a capital I in place of the L's in "Patroller" or "Pelistal".  You could have a name thats "PeIistal Patroller" "Pelistal PatrolIer" and "Pelistal PatroIler" and every permutation of those to confuse players.

I think they should be forced to change their names, as their font is confusing and it can be misleading.

Re: PvP 'flagged' NPC bug

heh

Re: PvP 'flagged' NPC bug

There will be a warning popup when you try to engage a flagged player. We are also going to flag the characters who's names closely resemble NPCs for renaming.

Re: PvP 'flagged' NPC bug

Wow, thats pathetic~
who would bait noob players?

Wow that's pathetic if you take the bait, die then claim "Oppps I died to an bugged NPC". It's clear and easy enough for anyone to identify and be able to tell the difference between an NPC and a player character.

Uggh more warning pop-ups. I at least hope there comes an option to check a box "Do not show this warning in the future". Having a pop-up show every time you're about to do certain actions become annoying.

Re: PvP 'flagged' NPC bug

hmm, im pretty sure that warning is already there since 1 year, and the option to "not show this again"

if not, it must have been lost somwhere...

Re: PvP 'flagged' NPC bug

It's there if you want to manually flag yourself, but not if you attack a flagged player.

<GargajCNS> we maim to please

Re: PvP 'flagged' NPC bug

A. Thats just low.... funny but low
B. Make them change their names, add a warning during the character creator that states the obvious. No NPC name plays.
C. No reason for a pop up just add a page on the tutorial that explains a yellow shield with orange lightening bolt = x) death for someone.

I have a fanclub it seems

Even the paparazzi follow me around

Re: PvP 'flagged' NPC bug

lol what else am i going to do while running hauler missions

Re: PvP 'flagged' NPC bug

heh ? I saw that too ... then after a few seconds of wondering I decided it's a griefer baiting people to attack him. so very can flipping obvious :-)

btw for a new player, the warning about NPC similar names means nothing since he has no clue how the NPCs are named. I would delete and ban any account doing this. just add a line to the TOS or something that trying to imitate NPC/non-player names is a banable offense.
