After listening to it more (still not done, listening to it while I type this), I must say that I completely disagree with your position on respecs.  I think that any respec ability should come with a complete wipe of extensions, knowledge base, and standings.  Why?  Because those things are a direct result of your attribute choices.  Why should someone be able to spend tons of EP into relation skills, grind up missions, then just change their attributes when they're done?  Why should someone be able to put lots of EP into research, ket their kernal knowledge up, then respec into better prototyping skills to use the knowledge?  This just takes away any responsibility on the part of the player in spending their EP.

I do like the idea of forcing the keeping of a name (unless you spend 2880 EP to delete the character), and I'd like to also include keeping of any assets, like bots modules and NIC.  You're going to trade those away and get it back anyway, so why not make it easier and not wipe assets?  This is the only thing I think should be saved when concerning any sort of respec.

Re: Incoming Transmission Podcast Episode #8 - Published

My position was that if you want to keep the Knowledgebase/relations etc you wouldn't get a full respec and there would have to be some level of pain. If you want a full respec including attributes, you'd lose the lot as it is a large change to make.

Sure there will always be those who flick around but you can control that to an extent in that with the partial respec you can introduce a downward spiral effect (definitely less severe than now) which keeps a form of lid on continually respeccing.

As a new player, I justed wanted to share that my decision to invest my entertainment time in Perpetuum was, in part, based on a few out-of-game aspects, most notably this excellent podcast.

Keep up the good work!

Excellent work on the podcasts!! keep up the good work

Re: Incoming Transmission Podcast Episode #8 - Published

I've said this before, but wiping relations and research makes resetting very very 1 sided. If you are an Indy player, that started as a miner, then decided to go into production, your decision to reset is much more difficult than the combat PVP player that really has nothing to lose.

Kernel research is 1 extension, and most indy players will put some level of effort into, even if they concentrate on mining. And they will be running transport missions for cash and will want to keep that effort for when production, where it's very important.

TL;DR - EP reset should be just that, EP. It's simple and straightforward. Anything else isn't balanced.

Re: Incoming Transmission Podcast Episode #8 - Published

nice podcast, indeed.

i had to laugh at the beginning, when you talked about the assault changes. Just wondered why you left out the GTFO and empty your accumulator-eccm modules....
