If it was doing the defragmenting since 20 minutes already, then there might be a problem (low disk space maybe?). You can try to delete the perpetuum.gbf file and start the client so it can download it again.

thatnks for your reply - its been 2 hours and a reboot - i have plenty of disc space

I tried your suggestion - tried the exe replacement and all both do is generate the message and create a crash log
