Nope. It's fine the way it is.
They spend a few days getting a feel for the game, if they like it then they sub.
Letting them join corps etc straight up just screws everyone around, including other people in the corp.
Most people who have played for a couple of hours have made up their minds whether they like it or not.
I can just see Natasya leading 15 trial corp mates in Arkhe's onto a Beta Island to show them how it's done, no thanks.

The first thing you upgrade is your bot, get into an Assault mech as soon as possible.
More armour, accumulator and locking range = win. The extra slots don't hurt either :-)

I did the tutorial assignments last night, got the arkhe mk2 after the second (?) one and a light bot after the last(10) one.
I then had to grind the training assignments until I got my relation up to 0.2.  That opened up the normal tier 1 assignments.
What a pain in the butt.
