Yes, I would do that too. If someone wants to specialize in bot building, let him do so. You can balance it with the amount of points it takes to unlock and so on.

Consider that as the points of the items that lead there smile

Re: New devblog: Progress report

It is a bit more newbie friendly when you don't make them use points on things that don't interest them and there are many, myself included, who like to keep things pure. hmm

there is no tech tree if you let the ppl just pick the item they want without any prequisites. also as zoom already said. it would be quite boring. the trees are already not too deep so this is quite fine.

I want to see the robots not to be attached to modules, not like command and conquer style.  But have robots off in their own respect place, like yagel->arbalest->kain->Mesmer you have to research lights before unlocking assaults.  Alsoetc...

Re: New devblog: Progress report

Making a bots in separate linear sub-tree will lead us to situations where it's faster and easier to have several prototypers/alt corps specialized, says, one in guns and other in robots which I think isn't that good.

But this game isn't about your corp, isn't it?

Re: New devblog: Progress report

Lets say 10 NEW people come into the game & make a corp. They need to learn some Tech to get production rolling. All they will do is learn the main tech trees each.
Splitting bots into their own Tech tree wont make people do what they would do any way if this wasn't the case.

IMO each Faction mech Type should be within its own faction "branch" But in a section on its own, Like this:

Light Bot >>>>>> Assault >>>>> Mech >>>>>> Heavy Mech
   |                            |                      |                         |
   |                            |                      |                         |
   Light Ewar                                 Mech Ewar

Each "Varient" light Ewar & Mech Ewar would have a  research Point multiplier Over the T1 Version.

Re: New devblog: Progress report

I saw the tech tree and realized that people have to research weapons before they can research the robot to use them.

Now I don't know about anyone else but this doesn't feel right.

It actually makes sense from multiple points of view. Like I said, there's real-life examples where the weapon itself leads to the development of a weapon platform. On top of that, weapons are smaller and easier (less types and lower quantities of materials) to produce.

Because we invented steering wheels before cars?

Yeah, we did.

Re: New devblog: Progress report

Would Devs consider adding EP on the research tree equation. Research to lvl 10 is no brainer , just like the old navigation extension. Therefore my idea would be for prequisites to unlock certain tech lvl by using research extensions for each faction, including indy.

Like so:

Pelestial research lvl 2: unlocks t1 for that faction. lvl 4 unlocks t2 and so on.

Re: New devblog: Progress report

Simmy: yeah, that's a good suggestion. Although not for item tiers, but research tiers (=grid columns). Currently the tree layouts look like 9 or 10 columns at max, so it even fits.

Yes, that can work too if you need more than 10 columns later on you can just add advance research extension and have and extra 10 columns to work with. If you just leave 9 columns we only need lvl 9 to unlock everything, until you give us more stuff to research. smile

that is indeed a good idea. also the research extention is quite cheep atm. might be worth thinking about a increase in complexity (oh i might have made friends with that)
