Topic: Knowledge Base Question

Is you knowledge base only increased be kernel research?

I.E if you have levels of advanced robotics, does that in any way affect your knowledge base regarding mechs?

Nope, only by kernel research. But there is (or are, not sure) an extension which increases the knowledge gained from kernels during research.
