Re: Shield-piercing shots

intresting idea.

but would need some more fine tuning. would make yellow so much better because of their crit boni, while from lore there should be the magnetic weapons that pirce the pelistal shields... (yes yes not only green bots have shields...)

Re: Shield-piercing shots

there is something genius here

Re: Shield-piercing shots

If there is a chance a shot can penetrate my shield, I should be able to shoot critical hits with shields on.

RIP PERPETUUM

Re: Shield-piercing shots

not a bad idea at base - yet not adding anything to the game but balancing issues.

Re: Shield-piercing shots

this sounded very intresting at the start at closer looks it will not work. it will colide with varoius other mechanics we have atm.
my first thought was it might work on a mech basis. so basicly with shieded ew mechs and tyranoses.
on the other hand it will be a total death for everything small that uses shields. especially the trojar. that one will be toast after a few salvos and with that you will basicly break the shield mechanics totaly.

yea i think shields need a reballance but even this idea sounded good, it might not work that way ^^

Re: Shield-piercing shots

By this idea, if shot is piercing the shield, it causes highly reduced damage, like 1/100 or sorta. No insta-pop for lights, and no real threat for big bits at first.  Yes, when shooting more and more, it will damage the bot good enough forcing him to retreat or use rep or even die after all. You might be say that several bots will make that very fast - but hey, several bots can also bring the shield down by our current mechanic so no real difference here.

And we can have different chance-o-meter for piercing shots to separate them from critical hits. Same mechanic can be used later with resists, or damaging modules etc.

Maybe the other way round - instead on mech basis for light non-Ewars? More options for them have been requested over and over again either way.

Other ideas may be to link them to a Syndicate Assault or Mech Class specced as shieldbreaker or to make the armor-piercing ammos have a chance at shield pierce yarr

Balancing would be a harsh topic again here, no doubt about that.

Re: Shield-piercing shots

Oh conventional firearms can be good for that too, that will give them more meaning and may require Syn-bots yes.

Re: Shield-piercing shots

Why exactly pierce? Maybe better ignore the absorption ratio?..

Good point. Still, chances should be low enough to not ruin a whole shields system.

Re: Shield-piercing shots

EMP rounds?

No damage but a better accumulator drain on shields.  It would mean either reloading or mixing ammo types and when it's down to the wire that really matters

EDIT: Obviously nothing close to a good neut.
