Topic: Freespace?

Does anyone still play it?  I'm picking it up again after seeing it available on gog.com for not much money.

Actually, I've finished the main storyline and have moved on to Freespace 2.  The capital ship battles are still impressive to gawk at.

Re: Freespace?

Great game, Even better mod community.
If you haven't yet, you should go get the high quality pack for Freespace 2 at http://www.hard-light.net/
they also have tons of mods and campaigns made by the community that you might enjoy

Re: Freespace?

Ah thanks for the tip.  I'd played with the mission editor a little when FS2 was new, but there wasn't much web presence for the game back then..at least, nothing I could find anyway.

Anyway, its a fantastic game.  I'd been meaning to get a copy for the longest time but gog.com made inexpensive enough to pick up for a minimal cost.

Re: Freespace?

Yeah, I can't believe there will be no FS3.

So *** sad, what a damn shame. FS and FS2 are classics... too bad their publisher failed to advertise them at all sad

Looking forward to new players and new conflicts.

Re: Freespace?

Well, I've finished them both off now.  Curse you GOG.com for giving me these games again so that quite a few weeks ended up being absorbed by them.

Actually Sundial, it seemed like the problem with the Freespace series wasn't the advertising of the games themselves, but issues with ownership of intellectual property as publisher companies changed hands.  I recall seeing quite a few adverts in PC mags when both games were released.  They were sufficiently well known, I think.  The Freespace series was a victim of business problems IIRC.

Re: Freespace?

Freespace was a hit at its time and one of the best space flight shooters to date.

Re: Freespace?

I replay freespace in my head from time to time. Great game, they even released the source code a good while ago.

Re: Freespace?

Apparently Freespace is easy to get now legally, GOG has it for $6, same for Freespace 2

https://www.gog.com

I just picked it up myself as I have lost my discs a long time ago.

Open Freespace + MediaVPS = awesome graphical updates

http://www.fsoinstaller.com/ will install all that for you, including the original FSPort mod for Freespace 1 with MediaVPS enabled... sick.

Looking forward to new players and new conflicts.
