Re: Hauler doesn't haul enought

Umm, Jawa Sand Crawler.? Very Large, very slow, very visible, would require combat support escourt. The pains of old EVE's freighter runs...   30 jumps through 0.0, in the snow, up hill, both ways...  ah yes, I cannot wait. hmm

Re: Hauler doesn't haul enought

I still like my idea of splitting Industrial and Logistics bots completely. This would allow for more bots in each class and more progression/variety.

The pain only if you were the hauler, I loved ganking freighters runs big_smile

At least, it brought some action elsewhere than on a stupid pos or station.

None should be safe on beta islands. Haulers are weak, so organize an escort, i bet some mercs would be happy to provide one. Would be another occasion for some pew pew.

Re: Hauler doesn't haul enought

What about a Mid/Utility slot Tractor Beam?
It uses accumulator and tows your can behind your bot.
Give it a short range and a power cost that scales with load being pulled.

That would give haulers something to put in their Utility slots as well as a use for their accumulator reserve.
Another side effect would be giving fitting possibilities for haulers.. no more LWF shield and go.
Do you put on an Indy fitting for tractor beam bonuses? Add Acc Rechargers to help with accumulator? Possibly a cpu upgrade to help with high fitting costs?

Just a thought.

Re: Hauler doesn't haul enought

imho, the hauler cargo is just fine
just certain raws ores or the plant stuff is way to big in volume. (id rather say the numbers of ore you need for a single comodity is to high)

you can transport several assault bots or mechs in a single sequer - so after refining and production the capacity of the haulers is just fine.

I agree with this very much, mayb need to work on raw material volumes or refining rates (no that good as this would have influence over minery too as less mats would be needed).
Going bit further, i also think most of modules should have their weight reduced; increasing final speed and fitting possibilities. Leaving some free slots should be a option, not a must.

Re: Hauler doesn't haul enought

adjusted refining rates could be compensated by adjusted "ammount per cycle" base, if you want to rebalance the hauling without adding another digit to ore size (+quality - quantity)

Re: Hauler doesn't haul enought

Actually some commodities are fairly hauling intensive too (titanium, isoprop, metachropin).

Overall though, I definately think there should be more options to increase cargo, for those who need it. If you don't need it, dont buy the 'cargo expanders' and don't train the related extensions (*dreams*) - then we'd all be happy.

Re: Hauler doesn't haul enought

After the changes everyone is happier. The way they did it - decreased the volume and not increased the capacity - was a smart way to do it and I like it.

Now let's wait for destroyer class haulers big_smile

Re: Hauler doesn't haul enought

I don't remember who it was in irc. But there was an idea for a hauler bot that had a module that was a container or a container that could snap on in the equip tool.

Container: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intermodal_container

Different size of containers that had X mass and X volume of U.

The bot would take existing advanced robotics, but the containers would require a new extension. Each level increases the container size you can handle.

This hauler bot would look like a skelton frame without the container.

This is a helicopter that can carry a cargo container. Basic idea of the skelton hauler bot (not talking about making a flying bot just using it as an example of the skelton framework).

These containers can be picked up and dropped off in the field.

Of course a cargo expander would be easier, but it would be cool to see something different in game around hauling rather than just a cargo expander.

Re: Hauler doesn't haul enought

The Lithus is already designed to have a detatchable cargo container - if you take a closer look on the mesh wink

Re: Hauler doesn't haul enought

How do you balance speed and capacity where it makes sense to use anything but the largest one?

Now, with the gap so large, 80-240, there's cleary a time to use either; the lithus is only like 25% slower for 3x the capcity, so anything over 80u is a no brainer to use lithus.

With modules, if you take them on/off, there's a chance that you won't have the size you need, where you need it. If there was a 360U at 50%, it would just be always installed on the lithus, because the small speed hit is offset by always having it when you need it. So the 240U and under modules would go unused, so your basically just changing the Lithus to a 360U hauler with lower top-end speed.

Sure, there's probably a few situational scenerios where you could use a 120 or 240, but the majority of the time your just going to max it out, because bag space is always important.

Re: Hauler doesn't haul enought

well this topic is done, they just doubled mineral rates

who, what? smile

did they? the size of ore got reduced, the "rate" is unchanged

Re: Hauler doesn't haul enought

Thread Idea Summary:

Lithus hauls too little for the "high end" hauler bot of the game. There is also no midrange hauler.
Give a Robotics bonus to bot storage size (5%)

Hauler extensions would be nice:
Basic Hauling: 2% Increase in Cargo Size
Advanced Hauling: 3% Increase in Cargo Size
Cargo expanding modules (with penaltys)

Something needs to change, logistics in this game is extremely tedious and the only way to move a decent ammount of stuff is training multiple accounts, even after the ore nerf.

Looking forward to new players and new conflicts.
