Topic: will light/assualt be useless?

Hey guys!
I got an question about the Basic Robot skill, and about light/assualts.
will they in later game be worthless?
Is there no point to put more than 4 points in the skill?

Myself got the basic robot skill at 8, why? cuse i like the small fast bots.
But if guns/missiles dont react to speed on the bots then whats the point?
It will just be an lower dps/HP bot with lower range in every way?
Will we all be forced to run around in mecs later?

If im wrong. that i really want to be then please correct me.
I got this idee by reading your posts, and listen to you people.
