Topic: Why does perp now need Admin rights?

Subject says it all.  Why after the last patch do I suddenly need to run perp with admin rights?  prior to the patch perp never had a problem writing to log files.  What changed?

We switched to a newer compiler - we wanted to do this before the Steam launch as we suspected that some issues that are not immediately evident (such as the client suddenly requiring admin privileges to run) might pop up. We're looking into it, please let us know if anything similar comes up that we might have missed.

your "home base" selection doesnt display, even though its still set as before. but with it not displayed, many people are pressing clear and resetting it by accident

To go along with this, the latest patch doesn't seem to install the proper .exe file.  You need to manually run the new one to fix it.
