Topic: Scheduled server downtime - 2013-05-17

Server will be down for a patch on 2013-05-17 from 14:00 CET. Estimated downtime will be 2 hours.

This is mostly a maintenance patch with a lot of server-side optimizations (which means a lot of things could break despite our testing, so bear with us).

We'll also roll out the first bit of the new killmail system, which will now include various EW attacks too.

Re: Scheduled server downtime - 2013-05-17

Awesome, long time coming for kill mails, but progress is progress!

Re: Scheduled server downtime - 2013-05-17

How exactly did you implement the EW on killmails if it's not a secret?

Re: Scheduled server downtime - 2013-05-17

EW on kill mails ... ooh song long in waiting big_smile

Tux ~ Kill the messenger, he was part of it all along.
Euripides ~ Ten soldiers wisely led will beat a hundred without a head.
Bertrand Russell ~ War does not determine who is right - only who is left.

Re: Scheduled server downtime - 2013-05-17

Burial:

For now it logs the following for a combat session, per attacker:
Demobilizer, suppressor: number of module cycles
ECM: number of successful uses/number of cycles
Drainer, neutralizer: amount of energy

Re: Scheduled server downtime - 2013-05-17

I'm so excited I'm gonna shoot Tux and Burial to test it out ...!!!!!

Re: Scheduled server downtime - 2013-05-17

Thanks for the heads up. big_smile

Suppressor should be treated like ECM in terms of statistics since it can very likely fail in some cases.

Suppressor is not chance based like ECM, so how?

Supressors are hit-miss based (chance), ECMs are hit-fail based (chance). Supressors simply have a higher native hit chance then ECMs, but they are still chance based just like ECM's.

Neutralizers/Drainers/S Demobs/etc on the other hand are not chance based.

Re: Scheduled server downtime - 2013-05-17

Right, apparently I had a blackout when we changed it.

Re: Scheduled server downtime - 2013-05-17

Wait let me get this straight,  you finally roll out a patch, and it has nothing to do with the 3 main things that you posted about IN DECEMBER, instead all you can come up with is EW on killmail.  Wow Just...   wow..

Re: Scheduled server downtime - 2013-05-17

Yeah, we should just let everyone fiddle their thumbs who can't work on those features, how dare we.

Re: Scheduled server downtime - 2013-05-17

Everyone???  you mean the OTHER guy.  big_smile

Re: Scheduled server downtime - 2013-05-17

It's better that we get these smaller updates than nothing. Gooma, based on the indy update thread, you should be well aware that that patch is still in it's infancy.

... and "a lot of server-side optimisations". Though not very sexy or headline grabbing they should not be overlooked. Can often have a major impact and can require much work even though in the end they require changing just a couple of lines.

If only we had more details on what exactly this "lot of server-side optimizations" are. I trust the patch notes will be extensive.

Yea, kind of how I used to be able to run 6 clients, and now I cna only run 3 and the water looks like Doom 1 ***.
