We have moved the SQL database server to a new machine during the last patch. As it turns out either the RAM or one of the hard drives is faulty. Every time you got a server error in the past few days, it meant that the SQL server threw a bluescreen crash and restarted. It's a miracle the game server still goes after that actually.

We're moving now back to the old machine, which had its own issues, but those are miniscule compared to this.
