Re: Discussion: An official Perpetuum Wiki
I rather move this to GD then, instead of having two different topics for the same thing.

I suppose user pages should only be edited by user. I've not seen any yet but can only imagine the pure trollage
I still think only Accounts should have access and only after 3 or so months of sub. Otherwise, it's too easy to pollute the wiki with fresh characters and accounts after a ban
Bravo for taking the step. It's gonna get worse before getting better I guess
The reason we can not have nice things, way to go for being the first D-Bag that trolls the wiki... Sad day...
The Devs asks for our opinion and any feedback before going ahead with the wiki. We all mostly agree it should be a free for all any account can edit, and I still agree, it's the way to go. Probably some bans to come, but it's a start. Give it sometime, might have been nice to get more feedback in the first place. These forums is full of negativity.

It is account based, but mediawiki needs a username, and we rather use character names for that instead of making account emails public. We ban accounts, not characters.
Thank You!
The only thing I don't like is that Gargaj is wasting his precious dev time moderating the wiki. I'm sure we could find some trustworthy volunteers.
I was writing that semi-jokingly, as a matter of fact anyone can revert any vandalism, so this really depends on the power of the community.
Would be nice to have the official wiki site on the 'Guide and Resources' section.
I will of course put it there once it's a bit more useful.
A couple of pointers from my end - I'm currently clocking at ~8000 edits on the English wikipedia so I think I've seen some things:
(I'll probably lift this over to the community portal at some point.)
- Wikify as much as you can: this allows people to be able to get a context without having to write more text (i.e. if they don't yet know what an extension is, a link will help them without having to write it down several times.)
- Don't be afraid to open articles for super basic terms like "Lock" or "Slope".
- At this point I wouldn't concentrate on too much of the "in-game history" articles, although certainly there were events over the course of the game that might be worth articles (like the anniversary tournament or some of the hax)
- I'll start setting up some categories which should hopefully help.
If you're editing: please pay attention to the Recent Changes to see what I'm doing, and try to follow the principle I'm setting down.
Good job devs. Just wondering if the subscription has to be active for a user to be able to change the articles?

Yes - we want established / committed editors.

This explains A LOT -_-
yeah... i spent well over a hour trying to figure out how to post and gave up. the confusing part is having never edited/worked on a wiki i didn't know i was missing buttons while signed in
Was finally going to write a proper character creation page which informed you on the roles of each race and how they play from low-mid-high grade EP. You know so players create a character and spend that EP mildly informed.
We let trolls go free and actual vets who wish to give a gift of information back cant even post.

I did a little bit of work today on the wiki:
http://wiki.perpetuum-online.com/index.php/Robopedia
The unique pages for each robot still need to be created.
Update: I am unable to upload the Gropho image as I get an error "Could not create directory ‘mwstore://local-backend/local-public/e/e3’."
All other images have uploaded fine. D:
That's probably because there is already a file under that name (the Gropho icon).
We just uploaded most of the ingame icons into the file library, some of the robot icons probably weren't uploaded because the robopedia pictures already existed, and the rest filled the gaps. So I guess we'll have to do a little manual cleanup.
edit: although I see you're uploading them as "def_xy_bot.png", so dunno...
Sorry, my bad, fixed now.
I am pulling the images from the "ROBOPEDIA" as they're much nicer than just the icons.
I'm missing the Scarab but that's not a big deal.
Thanks for fixing it, I'll reupload it now! (Awesome work on the wiki so far)
Edit:
Just discovered using http://wiki.perpetuum-online.com/index. … onelyPages that http://wiki.perpetuum-online.com/index. … orporation was orphaned.
http://wiki.perpetuum-online.com/index. … ng_a_major linked to sparks instead of http://wiki.perpetuum-online.com/index. … orporation which as this is a direct upload from your guide I expect the same is happening on the guide
Edit: Edit:
I have just realized that this is likely because this stage was removed from the game! Whoops. I'll orphan the page again now. Sorry for that.
Edit: Edit: Edit:.....
http://www.perpetuum-online.com/Help:Selecting_a_spark links to itself instead of http://www.perpetuum-online.com/Help:Selecting_a_major I have fixed this on the wiki.
Would I be right in thinking that the sooner we can get this wiki to a comprehensive coverage of aspects of the game then the sooner we can release on Steam?

If its not too much trouble maybe just pay $10 and resub so you can bless us with your knowledge rather than this bitter.

It will be a very helpful resource to newbies and veterans alike, but the release doesn't depend on this at all.
Possible copyright material uploaded:
http://wiki.perpetuum-online.com/index. … andbox.jpg
I did a quick google and found the same image on another website. I can't find way to flag it. Nothing major and it would be nice to have an image similar to explain what a sandbox MMO is.
Wikipedia manages it without an illustration
I have deleted the file now.
I would like to Personally thank the people like
Alexander
Celebro
Heliaso
Tux
Goffer
Ludlow Bursar
You guys are really helping the wiki out.
I cannot forget Gargaj and Zoom, this hardly ever gets said but excellent work.
It simple clean and to the point this will become a great resource for everyone.
Guidance Required:
I was creating some pages today to walk people through the process of building stuff from other stuff and it struck me that a lot of the pages required (for the facilities especially) already existed in the game guide.
However, if we use the Reverse engineering page as an example (http://wiki.perpetuum-online.com/index. … ngineering) much of the content of this page should really be on other pages. The opening paragraph should mostly be on a page about CTs or factories and a large section in the middle should probably be on a page about decoders.
Combining all this information on a single page may have worked well in a help guide but doesn't seem appropriate on a wiki.
So, how do we proceed? Should we be aiming to eventually render the old game guide obselete? Will you mind if we delete large chunks of pages, such as those parts of the RE page about CTs and decoders so as to make it a page about RE before we have time to create the pages for the deleted content - i.e. CTs and Decoders?
I'd love to have the time to do a lot of work on this but, unfortunately, I have to do things that put a bit of food on the table now and again.
