Maybe this will help you to get an idea of amounts and fields in the new system. This is obviously all random and not how it will look like after the patch, but this is the general idea.

This is how random titan ore fields will look on New Virginia. Note the min/max/avg numbers on the top left. These mean one tile, that is 1 pixel on this image. The brighter the pixel, the more minerals. The total amount of titan ore is somewhere around 1 billion. When the amount gets below 900 million (the threshold is different for all minerals), a new field will be generated during the automated check.

Also note the black blocking parts on alpha and none of those on gamma. This was mentioned in the blog, generation will take passable terrain in consideration on alpha and beta, but on gamma it can be anywhere.

And when all the X type fields have spawned under NPCs on alpha? Is there a de-spawn timer? Or do we need to rally the troops and have a field trip to keep the spawn at bay while we mine under them?

Q: Is that overlay of unpassable set for lights or for HM? I ask because HM and mech can't go alot of places and this will cause the break up of fields (patchworking). I know I'm not gonna finish a field if I have to go grab the Argano!

There is no despawn timer. If all the fields get under npcs, someone will have to do something. That's sandbox for you smile

The unpassable overlay is for heavy mechs, so the fields can be reached with all robots.

Yeah it would be a bit stupid to tear down buildings just to get to the minerals, so we're working on a solution for that.

hey, i hope there will be a scientist in my gamma terminal that can reverse engineer all the loot i bring him and increase my knowledgebase for prototyping...
