Topic: Spec Ops Nexus Bot

How about a bot that specializes in giving Nexus bonuses?  In EVE we had "Command Ships" which you could outfit with 3 warfare link modules to give bonuses.  I was thinking we should have a Spec. Ops. Bot that can mount 3 Nexus modules and give added bonuses to those modules if used on this bot.

Re: Spec Ops Nexus Bot

i don't think it's realy needed

they would be focus fire if they were in different bot than the other. ATM you can't tell what people is running a nexus in a squad if you don't know it or see it from a scanning . that prevent them to get killed in first.
Well at lest in pvp.

Re: Spec Ops Nexus Bot

the only bonus then should be lower accumulator costs for nexus - especially if the robot speed balancing doesn't change.

its true that the whole robot selection is missing extensions and robots for the green-attribute agents. (trade, command and logistics)

and to avoid the situation whys discribed, i would rather see bonuses on robots that are depending on your attribute selection and especially your spark.

eg. an ewar bot used by a political skilled agent could have the said NEXUS bonus, or the hauler increased cargo, and other industrial bots bonus for Remote repair and energy transfer.

+1 on annihilator's idea to have the spark govern a bonus.

Re: Spec Ops Nexus Bot

I'm not sure it would be a good thing. Nexus are a very "passive" activity. Currently, people are encouraged to spead the nexus amongh the groupe, and continue with their personal role in battle.
If we add a specialised bot for nexus, wouldn't that encourage even more dual botting ?

more bots for more roles is always good i think

Re: Spec Ops Nexus Bot

More bots is good, more choices. But I don't think specific bonuses for specific roles is the good way to go; giving a bot enough cpu, and maybe a accumulator bonus, is enough to make a good "commander" bot. Making versatile bonuses creates no "dead end" bots with multiple chances to fit and to play them.

Re: Spec Ops Nexus Bot

What is really needed in the way of new bots, is a line of bots dedicated to "combat logistics". Repairers, support bots (amp/transfer bonus?), even destroyer(or bigger) "motherships" of sort that would allow limited refitting for pilots, and/or ability to dock up and take more ammo/swap to other bots.

Currently miner/harvester bots are used for remote repair and everything else combat support related. Combat support is sorely neglected in bot choices, and extension-wise.

Re: Spec Ops Nexus Bot

Devs talked about hybrid bots, and I'm really looking forward for more info about it; hybrid bots should be a huge tactical/fun implementation, and a nice way to get combat/logistics bots, but they would be related in any form to industrial bot extensions; all the bots/toons that we are actually using for rr/support roles are heavily industrial specced characters, and as a first stadium is working very well, don't create a new and different way to do it, just improve it.

Bigger bots are in the same logical line, than bigger numbers; the game doesn't need biggger bots (bigger blobs either) when a high percentage of the population is not pilotiong/able to pilot heavys already. Logistical bots with the ability to allow you refit/reammo in the field is a good idea anyways, but maybe a bit nightmarish to get real for the devs.

Re: Spec Ops Nexus Bot

A command robot would create a new niche for players.

A battle commander would be better accommodated in a robot that provides bonuses to signal detection and nexuses.

Re: Spec Ops Nexus Bot

That niche is already created, and easier is not always better; is just easier. The guy giving bonuses to the squad is not mandatory the guy commanding the squad, and doesn't have to. So specific bots would box very tightly their use, I think is better to have bots as a beginning poit, a frame, and through modules and extensions get more specialized used of those bots.

I like this idea, being able to refit or at least grab more ammo out in the field would be great.

Well, if you have an indy RR, just get'm to carry ammo. Most cases where you'd run out of ammo, you'd be in a larger fight and if you're in a larger fight you probably have some sort of indy RR logistics, just get them to carry some field cans and ammo. It's a bit risky I guess, but it beats having no ammo if that's an issue.

Re: Spec Ops Nexus Bot

Could we keep the extension to run the new class of bots Industrial Robot though, so that miners still can provide the logistics. I think if the RR function was doable with Advanced Robotics or Faction Bot, it would eliminate indy players from contributing to PVP.
