Topic: AC needs a fileserver in the US maybe?

On a 20MB dl 2MB ul connection it shouldn't take me 30 minutes to get the perp*.gbf files updated especially when its only 353 megs.

Yes I have a 183ms trip to Hungary but comeon guys.. surely you can put your files on a decent pipe so it doesn't take half our playtime to download.

If you really don't have the space, I could probably do it for you on my PC and US players would be taken care of smile



P.S. no I'm not dl pr0n also. Nothing going but this browser session and Perp updating.

Good idea. Set me up a file server on your PC and provide me with the static dyndns host and login info and i'll get the files replicated over there.

Alternatively, you could not spend the few hours setting this up and get back 4 times as much playtime as you "lost" by updating.

You just got some *** ISP. I live in Germany and download porn at max. speed (6MB/s) from US.

No, its just Perps server atm. I can connect and dl from UK/Russia/China/Japan/Australia at 1-1.5MBs right now. Clean network and fast connects. There are 22 hops between me and Perp servers currently. The slow part is the last 2 at their end.

My download speed is fine. I am in the US.

The issue isn't the distance it's the server. I wish I could patch faster too but it's not bad. I think they've simply limited the upload speed per connection?
The game also uses a lot of smaller files combined into a single file. Editing this file constantly might slow down the update process a lot as it has to keep starting, downloading and stopping many files.

All in all I've notice the US and EU get around the same speed as long as bandwidth allows. The only difference I noticed was that each time the US client requests a file each request will take longer but that's another many small files vs one large file issue. But this is MUCH better in the long run than a version system. Means you only need to patch ONCE and only patch the smaller files that need updating. It takes me around 10 to 20 minutes to download the full GBF file and always has. I can download 3 megs a second and I most certainly don't from their server. For now this is an acceptable speed but later it would be nice to at least reach a speed of 1 megabyte a second.

Be thankful they compress 1 GB to 300 MB.

same here, havent had problems yet, late at night I have noticed some lag but nothing that murders connections.

Noticed that myself. The last two or three hops are the worst of the lot. Its especially bad over the wekends.  This type of game simply can't afford unreliable connections.  Thats why EVE's data center is out side of London, rather than being in Iceland.

If you can't kill it, don't make it mad.

+1, having 2 servers in Budapest is the reason for some really hellacious lag from the midwest/usa; always the last few hops are worst.
