I strangely agree with Burial for once, a non MK2 only variant bot would be a nice side step into balance. However I think more simple but yet more likely to give higher dynamic of additional content would be some love to the modules and new types/effects from said new modules.

My 2 cents

At least give us a way to spend the disproportionate amount of junk kernals we get. Everything uses common or HT kernals, leaving us with stocks of junk race kernals of some kind left over. Even if its refining them into fragments or some other useful item or hell allowing them to replace something in a recipe. After a point race kernals are a moot point other then injecting into new corps that are rarely formed or survive!

I can see shooting 'friendly' in very rare instances, so the ability to set it to shoot based on standings or anyone not in corp would be nice. Also there should be a main setting for default attached to the terminal and allow the individual turret settings be an override.

My 2 cents.

+1 to optimal range idea, this would make more sense. And possibly keep them moving about too instead of stopping, something like get in optimal start a flanking circle with in a tolerance of optimal distance,  as this would give some more realism to the 'fight' when shooting at the NPCs.

If they are set to enable/disable against NPCs it should hook into the NPC retaliation mechanism. I do agree that this is a good idea so long as loot drops from turret kills are disabled and proper role addition for such a control is added. This can remedy some of the protection issues for smaller corps getting into gamma as they could use their turret assets to protect other activities by re arranging base assets instead giving it a better in and more use per se. I would also like to add that possible putting a turret range circle in the building planner would be a good addition to this so that when they are moved about proper planning can be done. (circle can be static size no need to complicate things with booster additions and what have you).

+1 with more hashing out of the idea.

While I do agree a trial period would do the game wonders there are some concerns.

First not allowing them to fully be a part of the Nia main islands (Virtual island is cool here), to do this they need a semi full featured demo island to be a part of.

Second I believe that 6 hours is not quite enough to get through the tutorial and really fully understand the basics. Some things like artifacting, and fitting balances can take a few hours each in themselves for the thickest of skulls. Maybe say a 48hr trial?

Third, while I understand the need for people interacting, this community can be toxic. Whether or not to allow them to interact with the main games chat or have them completely separated off on their own is one that should be considered, especially as general chat can get rather dismal at times.

Fourth, the tutorials are crap. To be honest it would be best to have video tutorials instead for each section as text does not convey enough information in the small amount of asset space it has. Even if its as simple as a 'mission' breif video for each with audio voice over on each step similar to some other games, this would be seen as a nice feature and give more clarity to the more complex things such as artifacting.

Fifth, while I understand most will not, some very well may chose to make trial accounts just to lock out names. This can be remedied in the most part by having the character creation step moved to actual deployment to Nia instead locking the name selection to full accounts.

Lastly, a tutorial on the game is nice, but more essentially a tutorial on the settings should be added as well. There are many useful options in the settings that are not fully explained until you meet other players, and some players require setting changes in order to keep a connection to the server stable. By getting this out of the way early you may very well keep many players that would drop early on due to technical difficulties.

These are the things I believe would need to be done or happen in order for a trial period to actually work.

Cheers,
