I would say this should be in another forum post but, well, it's in EVERY forum post.

I think this post should be in EVERY topic!  DEVs need to make new content and stop tweeking the current mechanics.  They can not do both at the same time (some will argue they cant do either individually, but plz dont go there) and they need to make new content to get folks playing this game again.

After spending a few nights last week looking at the "connecting to dataserver" msg. I decided to play around and install a vpn.  I used the vpn that was mentioned in an old perp forum post (for aussie lag issues), I set my location to Germany and didn't it connect right away, every time on all my clients.

So if you are not able to connect to the game, go download Hotspot shield, set the location to Europe somewhere (I used Germany) and I think you will be able to connect.

This wont fix lag issues, but should get players into the game again.  It is a small PItA, since you have to close and reopen all you connections (games, ts3, browser, etc) when you switch between using it and not.  And google now defaults to German launguges (lol).

To help the devs some (maybe).  I was able to connect directly to the game most of the weekend, but late Sun night (US time), it started to get lost again and I had to revert back to this VPN method.  I think this coincides with EU business traffic times... maybe tell you server they are still AFUd.

Recently i faced with interesting fact: Perpetuum have no free trial period anymore. It makes the game unattractive for new players.
I want to ask the devs bring back this feature with some limitations:
1) No EP accumulation
2) Allowed to use only light robots
3) Allowed to use only t1 equipment

...and yeah it's better to unlimit this time-period. The ppl should be able to login anytime from their main emails and check for interesting changes.

Basically i think the game need more hooks to catch more ppl.

If they aren't committed to pay, they aren't commited to play.
This is not a causal player game.

Other things must be done to get players in game.  The Devs will have a better RoI in getting current players or players that left game to play vs loring new free/casual plays to come and stay.  their efforts need to be focued on fixing sheit and adding content, not tying to get a gamer with no skin in the game (aka cash or time) to come and stay more then a very short time.

At approximately 9:22pm CET we expereinced Cogent peer flap on our core2.ams004 router (upstream router to Agile Hosting AMS2 facility). We have shut down the BGP peering with Cogent at this time and are investigating the issue. During this event traffic destined over Cogent network would have seen packet loss as traffic was shifted away from Cogent on to other upstream providers. We will provide further updates and more information becomes available.

Engineers are aware of the situation and are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

...whatever that means.

It means you are paying good money to get worse service then when you hosted the server in your garage. wink  If this hosting service can not fix an issue in less then a month (we are over that time), maybe its time to seek other subs who have better technical abilites and/or better cusomter service.

I know as I sit at my computer watching lag say N/A or staring at "connecting to dataserver", other games start to look like a better investment of my time.

"connecting to the dataserver..." for 30 minutes.  Multiple clients, multiple reboots. nothing fixes it.  Rest of the internet works fine.

Please fix your ****

wireshark gets a ton of "TCP Out-Of-Order" when I launch and it sits at the connecting to the dataserver.

Just becasue everyone is not posting, doesn't mean they don't have lag issues.  Many folks in TS/GC have stated they get peroidic high pings (> 2000 to N/A).  You really have some issue(s) going on that is effecting game play.  It should be made a priority to look into.  Chemist has put in a lot of work to show you an issue (not sure it is the cause of everyones issues), don't over look what he is showing you just because you think it is only happening to him or his country.

there are some good suggestions in here, but until the the game develops a little more content for new players, all of these efforts will only get more ppl to try the game then leave.  The issue is retention.  Tweaking production isnt going ot make new players stay.

I think we should hold off on our active recruitment outside of game until the PvE mission 2.0 comes (if ever).

But item #3 of the OP should be implemented regardless.

When the sheep are gone, they feast on the Shepards.

Your analogy would mean that there is an intent to go after the game and the Devs and destroy it all.

Thank you so much for the update!  It looks like a bunch of new & exciting things will be here soon.

Listen to Ville on buying new players love. If you can't lower the price, promise them something that will excite them (ei, temp booster for x days (if they log in every day), credit in the store (which we will have someday?), pink arkes, anything will help).

Now, hurry up on the PvE changes so we can keep any new players more then a couple of weeks.

Thank you for your efforts

Also, why no comments on the spark tp changes in this patch, there is still time to fix it by then wink

There appears to be some misconceptions about artifact scanning.

Yes low skills do affect the accuracy of your result, but not by as much as you think.
When I played and first started, artifacting was my main source of income and I did it for at least 7-8 months straight. Made good coin. Moved to gamma and scanned, made good coin.

You DO NOT NEED TO INCREASE YOUR SKILLS BEYOND THE MINIMUM required. Ever.
You don't need to scan in a bonused bot. The only equipment I improved was the scanner, a T4 scanner is worth the investment. Having a scan accuracy of around 70-75% is more than sufficient to find any artifact reasonably quickly. The only activity that requires as close to 100% scanner accuracy is SAP intrusion times. Good luck.

This is all true, but most new players aren't going to have the NIC for a T4 scanner.  Most of them just use the T0 that came in their arke (since they are trying to do T0 assignments, assume most of them are new) and they get frustrated (these kids today) because they have a 30% accuracy and artifact distances are all over the place.
Since I assume the T0 missions are trying to reinforce some of the skills they all blew through quickly on the newb island (gotta get in that mech before the weekend is over), this particular mission causes a lot of new player heartache and the devs should think about giving new players a little help here (or make them repeat the artifact class over summer vacation;)

The artifact in most missions isn't located direclty on (under) the marker.  How far from the location were you when you scanned at the location in the picture?

Hunt around a bit, I bet you will find it.

If only we could get the folks in this games queue into perp.

I spend more time in queue or waiting on server to come back, then i do in game.  Thats also the only time I open the minimized perp windows too, though I think I am playing perp more because on QueueAge.

I think the language barrier is getting us here (at least on the plasma issue).

I belive his issue (#3), was that there is not enough description/info on things.  His example was plasma.  He does not know what it is for or where to sell it.  He is correct, in general there is nowhere that says "plasma is to be sold for NIC at a terminal or traded to other players and has no other use in the game".  And based upon the number of times I (and I am sure all the rest of us) have answered that question, he is correct.

Our only answer is ask question in GC or corp chat, memorize Zortarg's guide and fight to get over the steep learning curve new players. FYI: I dont think he wants new players spoon fed, just wants teh tools to be able to figure stuff out (ie info tab that says. plasma is only used to get NIC)

But back on topic....
Yes, it is difficult for new players. This game is great, but it just lacks enough content to keep new players involved (or vets for that matter).  THis is currently the topic of almost every post on these forumes (except the corp dialog garbage)

You probably have low geoscanner accuracy, so the readings are giving you an error.  You can bump up your accuracy with a bot that gives a geoscanning bonus (argano), getting a better geoscanner and/or putting some EP into the skill.

Or you can just live with it and kinda go in the correct direction until you get an X for the mineral you need (will take more charges)

You can check out your geoscanner accuracy with the info on that item.

Ninja looting expired SAPs is a valid reason for solo players to go to PvP islands and if you remove that, you will remove yet another potential PvP target.  Its the only reason a PvE combat guy would ever go to beta; this guy might be more likely to try his hand at roams and small scale PVP in the future.

Its not hurting you guys that some solo player took the risk to snatch a rotting loot can, but didnt want to attack it (even if he could).  Do you think it would incentivise someone to get a group together to actually attack a SAP?  Cause if they were gonna put in that effort, they would hopefully try to roam an island instead.

Leave it as is and if its a big concern, get your loot off the field when the SAP is done (the power to resolve this issue is already in the hands of the terminal owners).
