What's wrong with the tutorials?

They are actually quite good, but they don't mention corps..

It would be nice to have a right click option to switch all guns/modules of the same type to the same ammo in addition to the current options.. There aren't many instances where you would want different ammo, but there are quite a few where changing all of your guns at the same time would reduce the amount of clicking (and be faster) significantly..

Basically the same as we have a 'reload' and a 'reload all' option, only for different ammo..

Please don't. The last thing someone needs when looking for actual help is to try and get recruited.

If you wish to use the help channel for recruitment then do it by helping people and being friendly. Once you are chatting with someone invite them to your own corp channel and go from there. Help should be about help (and it current is and that's good).

So last night I was out and running around doing my thing and I spied an Superior Observer doing his thing and coming right for me.. Being in a Cameleon I ran for it, right toward another roaming mob of a 4th Star Mesmer, 2x 4th Star Kains, 3x 4th Star Arbs and 2x 4th Star Cameleons. Avoiding instant death by hiding behind a hill I watched as the 2 groups joined up and walked with each other down a highway for 30 mins.. After that they went their separate ways, but left me sitting there in fear..

After cleaning up the inside of my bot, I thought to myself, this really should be what observers are all about. Fear..

Right now you can pretty much solo all observers if you have good skills. They aren't even THAT hard (ok, superiors are a bit hard) and the 4th star mob running around would have been a lot harder to solo with a smaller reward. So why don't observers have a possie of other mechs and ewar bots? This group when it was together would have been a tough nut to crack for a small gang, but not impossible, and would have given a great reward.. Why cant they run around with friends more often?

So I guess the proposal is to add a mob with observers, preferably with the mob tier being pseudo-random (grands could have tier 2 and 3 mechs and bots, superiors could have tier 3 and 4 mechs and bots, with the number of heavy mechs, light mechs, assaults and light bots being random between 1 and 4). This would *** some much needed difficulty to observers and a lot of variation in the random spawns.

TL;DR: Observers need to be harder, just add a mob.

I would have thought that the biggest problem would be if they did this, what do they then do with the bitcoin afterward? As far as I know server space cant be rented with bitcoin and im pretty sure most employees would get a little upset if they were paid with bitcoin.. I'm not saying bitcoin is bad but if you have to convert it to another currency to use it then why would they offer this service (which will cost them real money)?

From a stability standpoint, server software products and operating systems shouldn't require daily or even weekly restarts to remain stable.  Of course, in recent times we've made things a bit more complex with virtualization to support on-demand scaling and mobility across hardware in the event of component failure, but services that are outward-facing towards a customer population should be high-availability with minimal downtime.

That was one thing that always annoyed me about stEVE.  The daily cluster restarts spoke volumes about improper database design.  They were depending on MS SQL products.  I've personally seen such systems sustain large numbers of transactions in realtime demand situations run for several months with no need for nightly reboot silliness.  Granted stEVE was a somewhat unique cluster that is sitting atop nonconventional gear like RAMSANs, but all of the gear was still available on the open market.

I can understand shutting off services for backups (though shadow copy services make downtime for that reason less excusable these days), to blow dust out of cooling fans, or to swap a dead disk out of an array.  That shouldn't need to be a daily ordeal though.  Then again, I admit I don't know what's happening behind the scenes.  Perhaps there were good reasons.

While I agree with you that things like rebooting shouldn't need to be done every day, the sad fact is that stuff is going to go wrong and need fixing/updating/replacing on a semi-regular basis.. That and eves backend is running on windows servers whos up-times usually get measured in days not months (when run properly they can easily get months but they are rarely run properly) also doesn't help. Its also much more convenient to the players to know when the servers are going to go down (weather they do work on them or not) so they can schedule around it..

Your choices are basically once a day, once a week or once a month.. Anything more complex than that and you may as well not bother to make it regular and just take the servers down when stuff needs to be done. Once a month is too infrequent for code and hardware updates (and code updates do get pushed to the servers while they are down) so its down to once a week (aka, WoW) or once a day (aka EVE). TBH I personally prefer 30 mins a day downtime (even if it IS in the middle of my prime time) than a whole day offline..

I think a better question is why do my weapons insist on cycling when they didn't fire because the target is not locked yet..  (Try it, fire at a primary and then start locking a new target and set it as primary, your guns wont fire because the target is not locked, but they wont stop cycling.. I usually get 2 cycles in before I have a lock)

Or you know... Devs could make NPCs have actual accu according to extension levels they've been given that isn't infinite, this would solve so many problems with NPCs in one swoop.

Guess its more to do with the complexity of coding an AI that can manage its cap.. Not impossible and im sure we will see it some time in the future.

PS: Why do the Observers use normal bots since they're supposedly "Elite of the Elite", give them Mk2's! Yes, that would make them insanely overpowered in most cases, but they ARE supposed to be these big nasty Nians that don't take no for an answer...

Or have them spawn with some friends (ie, a few assaults and some ECM bots that are chained to the observer)

Player ECM is fine as it is, the issue is NPC ECM which is pretty much because they don't have to manage cap and can just fire it off every time it cycles..

2 easy ways I can see to fix this..

1) I likes the ECM resistance thing. The more ECM you get hit with in a short period the less of an effect the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc have.. This allows the NPCs to ECM spam you and jam you occasionally without completely unbalancing it for players.

2) Increase the cycle time for NPCs by say 2 or 3 times..

(I guess 3 is reduce the amount on NPCs that use ECM, but that might make it too useless).

After using it for while - got some suggestions:

  • please add a dropdownlist where i can choose which artifact the entry is. like "numiquol observer II".
That way i can enter all results the scanner shows at once, and identifie them afterwards

  • different color for result circles depending on the choice

  • asking for an actuall screen-capture ocr option would be to much... big_smile

btw, great tool!

I too would like either the ability to set a colour per scan result or tag it with a type so I can scan more than 1 thing at a time.. I'm actually getting pretty good at scanning 2 things at a time with this app, but anything that makes it easier would seriously help.

Where do I go to pee in my bot? THIS HAS YET TO BE EXPLAINED!

(seriously, what is this thread about?)

I also think this is really nice (assuming its like whats in the screen shot) and would love to have it in the game, but there are other things I would prefer to see first.. So +1 but a low priority +1..

It could just be '2 random bots'.. That would be kinda cool..

Idea one: Corporation binding Any robot activated by anyone in a corporation would cause that robot to be bound to that corporation so that it could no longer be sold in open market, but could be give or traded to anyone in that corporation. Any produced robot not activated could still be sold.

This is possibly the start of a workable idea, but as it is sucks.. I'm in a corp, I have my own bots which I bought prior to joining this corp, no one in the corp has helped in their production or acquisition in any way.. So the bots suddenly become theirs?

Also what happens when I have 4 or 5 corp bots in my own hanger and leave the corp? Do I keep them and just cant do anything with them? Does the corp keep them? Does my new corp suddenly get them?

Not a horrible idea as a security for corp assets measure, but as proposed.. umm.. needs work..  (Also the best security measure would be to not give out corp bots to people you don't trust)

It is, but it only help reach the people that are on when you are on. Due top my timezone I am never on during peak times, so the number of people that can see my wears are limited at best.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to discuss this but I feel there needs to be some discussion on this part of the devblog located here http://blog.perpetuum-online.com/posts/ … ig-revamp/.

The Nians are becoming more clever and flexible - if you partially destroy a spawn group, it will keep coming at you. If you totally destroy a spawn group, the Nians will deploy a different kind of spawn the next time to keep you guessing. There’s also the chance that the spawn group may be an "elite" spawn - special forces carrying higher quality gear, or items that will lead to higher ranked Elite Spawns.

That's really nice and all (no seriously its a good idea) but can we have with this a small reduction in the starting difficulty of the spawns then? I have been playing less than a month and I can easily take zero level and first level spawns as they currently are, and when I kit properly I can also take 2nd level spawns if I am careful. Obviously the rewards for 2nd level spawns are well worth the added risk (for me) but with the added risk of it spawning something I cant take then it'll be back to level 1's for me.

It would be nice if there were more smaller 2 and 3 bot spawns as it would allow people to try out the higher tier spawns with the possibility of making it out alive when they screw up, and it would also mean if they spawned an upgraded group it would still be possibly to run away.

Pretty much this boils down to the rather large escalation in difficulty between NPC tiers or even type within that tier (*cough*ewar spawns*cough*). It would be nice IMO to have a smaller step up without effecting the difficulty of the higher end stuff (so pretty much you would have to add more steps, the higher end NPCs killing solo mechs is awesome!).

ITT: People that understand the usefulness of an extra couple of slots.
Also ITT: People that should be asking for Mk3 gear and not boosting Mk2 stuff..

The biggest issue with this are that not all CTs are the same.. They almost all have individual percentages and are therefor 'unique'.. Its just not how the market works (same reason you cant sell damaged goods, and im talking from a code level).

What we need is a CT market or a contract system specifically designed to sell CTs that also shows their percentages. I think this has been proposed a few times and I would be shocked if plans weren't in the works.

I'm talking about a video setting here.. (I hate to say this bit but) eve has a windowed mode that is both full screen (as in it takes up the whole screen) and has no windows decorations.. I have seen other apps without window decorations so its apparently simple to do, and setting it 'full screen' is a simple matter of setting the window the same size as the screen and pinning it in the top left corner..

The advantage is obviously that you can run the game full screen and still use your 2nd monitor without the game minimizing.. Performance wise its the same as windowed mode (because that's what it is). You could even run 2 clients next to each other...

Shouldn't be too hard to code (again I have no actual idea as its not something I have even tried) and is a great little feature.

It's actually more relevant here than in Eve, with line of sight and objects blocking fire.

So you want a LOS checker?  Wow, you're on fire today!

To be fair to him, LOS can get a bit messed up sometimes in this game.. I understand the reason why and im not sure anything can actually be done about it (other than make the grid even more fine grained, thus increasing load) but that's still not a good reason to add it as it works both ways.

So on a related note.. If one were to run 2 clients on the same PC, how easy/hard is it to control them both?

I'm not a big fan of the tactical overlay (even in eve) but more info on the lock radical would be nice.

Arga wrote:

At the base level, your asking the game to be an AI targeting assistant. That is really a mechanic that gets added after combat gets too complicated for most players to track, which is certainly not the case in Perp... yet.

No, im really not. If you want to pre-target something and not actually fire, having the first one lock as primary does nothing except indicate to the person that they were the first one to get locked. There is nothing stopping you from changing primaries before you fire. Its not complicated or 'AI', just primary the first one that's locked and then if/when your primary dies primary the target at the top of the list. Your guns stop firing anyway so if this is not what you want to primary then its simply a matter of picking the one you do want.

Its not magic, its just better UI.
