I dont think the graph serves any positive purpose for us players. In fact, it may even be detrimental. I know when I used to watch it, it was kind of disheartening to see the numbers and I never really felt an urge to login and see how things are.

Now that the graph is gone, I'm curious to know how bumping the game is and it's making me want to login more. I think not showing the graph is a good thing.

Downtime credit .... meh hmm

Extra EP ....  big_smile:D:D

I've been subbed since the early release and that likely won't change. I haven't really been playing lately anyway, just gathering EP, so these attacks don't bother me. lol

I haven't played in quite a long time, even though my accounts are still subbed for EP. But hearing about these new features is starting to make me think about PO again. Once a solid foundation of PBS' are put in the game, I'm sure I'll be logging in again and I won't be the only one coming back to PO either.

Allowing the defenders to cap the SAP would go a long way. Also, doing something about this scanning the timers thing. It doesn't really make sense. I said it a long while ago, I2 is just going to make things more aggressively annoying to hold beta with little new in the way of rewards. I'm glad it will be partially helpful to the dev  to have complete when it comes to player built structures, but that doesn't mean it should have been released without them. This is just going to funnel people back to alpha who dont want to be slaves to timers for basically the same old crap on under-used beta islands.

PS. On an unrelated note, anyone want to hire a green early access pilot as a ringer? I only want a shiny black bot as pay if we win. lol

I'd farm with it if I had one, nothing more. I know Lemon would love to have one to run around and crush people with. I doubt he'd ever sell his if/when he gets one. I too noted the same thing, it's likely you'd be primaried quite quickly in PvP just for the sheer fact that everyone would love nothing more than to cause someone grief on a magnitude as rare as the bots existance. Like in Eve, pieces like this are shelved and gawked at once in a blue moon. Over time, I'm sure someone will lose one or two and it will never be forgotten. Some will disappear over time with player account closures and a couple may be sold off at ludicrous amounts after they've collected dust for an extended time and the owner realizes that they want to become filthy rich.

It's a step in the right direction, but it's still not the change that the game needs to make it more in-line with the empire building aspect of a sandbox. We already have outposts, this only makes having one a bit more lucrative. But really, who cares at this point? Beta corps have already stockpiled enough for it to not really matter if they can get more quicker. The problem is that there's not enough conflict to deplete a lot of the beta corps supplies and there's little reason for them now to go fight over something that will help them bloat more.

We need empire building, still. People need a way to build a home. Not just re-occupy some preconceived dot on the map.

Instead of creating a bunch of fanfare about how you exploited an obvious unbalanced aspect of the game, why didn't you just message the dev's directly here on the forums or contact a GM/Dev in game? Why did you wait until you heard it was going to be nerfed? I find it a bit funny that you didn't care to 'help' fix the problem until you realized a fix would be imminent and then tried to appear as if you're going to try rectify your months of abusing this method..

Happens to me too, it's kind of annoying to have to adjust your window every time you play. The strange thing is that the second client I have installed for my other account doesn't have this problem.

3.0 was out around 6 years ago. If you don't have the hardware to utilize it, upgrade. This is like complaining that you can't play PS3 games on your PS2. There comes a time when things need to advance. If a handful of people are affected, it's not up to the dev to slow down their own technical capabilities because someone has decided to not keep up with the times. This is a game, it's entertainment. If you can't afford it, you need to deal with that and not hope to keep the rest of the playerbase down because you think you should only have to upgrade your hardware every decade, if that.

Stop whining about PvE and risk and reward and balance and blah blah blah.

It's a one shot beacon. You use it and you need to go farm more. It's not like a faucet for free loot. People don't need to be forced to go to beta to do PvE content. Beta is PvP. Stop mixing the 2 constantly, they don't need to intertwine all the time. The risk should be in the difficulty of the NPC's. If someone has the EP to do it, then why should they then be forced to also have to PvP to face PvE content? This game is too small for that crap.

If they really want to make kernels/technology more dynamic to relegate the influx of combat player's EP over time, they should just alter the research system in itself. Instead of making the acquisition of technology a grind through combat, it should be the research in itself that takes time. This will make combat EP less a part in something to do with research and make it more relient on the researchers which makes more sense I think.

This could be done by dropping data kernels with specific tech in them that you research over time. For example, you could find a kernel with the tech to making a T1 miner and it would take X amount of time to complete, based off a subset of skills or just the research skill in itself. You could also limit the tech tree so that people can't skip tiers either, so to say, if you have a T3 miner kernel, you can't research it until you've done research on the T1 and T2 kernels for the miner. This would prevent the need to constantly tweak drop rates because of the ease in which combat players can acquire them which puts a strain on researchers and newer corps and players that won't be able to keep up or acquire at the same time as vets.

Im not fully sure if this makes sense against what you're asking, but I use this method myself. I have a spreadsheet with entry values for each raw material. Everytime I feel like updating my spreadsheet I check the market and plugin the averages. These values are then used in calculations to display the rates at which commodities are valued based off current raw materials. The values of commodities are then used in calculations to display the values of any module I have added to my spreadsheet.

Thus, everytime I enter in the current values of raw materials, my spreadsheet automatically recalibrates everything else to show me the typical true value of a modules cost. Of course, this does not factor in RE'ing, CT's or factory fees as those are easier to just add in once you make a run and are too dynamic with the CT's degradation. But I suppose it could be done if you wanted to punch in more numbers and be very specific.

Making all the spawns random was a bad idea imo. When I want to go out and hunt mechs/hm's, I fit accordingly and bring out my mech/hm. Same if I wanted to go grind some of my favorite assault spawns, I'll pull out my assault. Now I have to go up against whatever I'm lucky enough to get? I like that there are random spawns, but making ALL spawns random is ridiculous. The way it was prior to yesterdays patch was all we needed. We had flavor. We could go to static spawns when we wanted something specific, or go to a random and grind for elites. Now we have no choice? I dislike the random spawns because of the meshing between lights/assaults and mechs/hm's. Small bots are annoying as hell to kill in mech+ and trying to grind mech+ in an assault is also frustrating at best. Not to mention kernel farming is pretty much trashed now. Who cares if we get piles of lighter bots to offset them not being larger. Who the hell wants light/assault kernels when they're past reasearching those?

What possessed you guys to take away the variety we had between static and random to completely random? What purpose does it serve? Do you understand how it will effect the research when we cant go for the kernels we need? Do you understand how annoying it is to throw all bot sizes in to one spawn? Do you understand how you took a somewhat decent solo PvE aspect of the game and trampled it in to a '1 size fits all' spawn? Why don't you do that for minerals to? Do you think miners would like it if they had to just randomly pluck resources they dont want?

Ok, then maybe random gas pockets explode while you mine? Nothing that will OMGWTFPWN you, but something that does a % of your health ( to help scale across bot sizes ). This too could add danger to mining. You could even make rarer minerals like Epi more volatile so that they do more damage if handled incorrectly. I dont know, I just think there are better ways of handling the adversity of minings rewards aside plopping down an observer that most combat pilots dont even like fighting.

22

(69 replies, posted in Balancing)

Sure, but that's pretty easy to overcome with a macro. I was under the assumption that was the reasoning behind the added risk to not paying attention. Macro mining is as simple as setting an interval to moving the stack to a can. But with module damage or modules randomly turning off, you can no longer macro.

If the dev's wanted to prevent unattended mining, why not introduce systems that would require a miner to pay attention. Dropping observer patrols on a mining field is not very nice. Instead, why not have mining equipment randomly overheat and turn off so that the person has to actually make sure his systems are all running. Maybe damage the equipment, so over long enough time they have to go back to a terminal to repair their mining equipment. Maybe make charges weigh more? There are lots of possibilities to remove unattended mining, observers though seem to be a bit too extreme.

Edit:

As for risk vs reward, this is mining. Minerals are worth very little. You need multiple accounts to actually make a decent amount of money per hour. Or, you can mine Epi on beta for good returns, but that inherently has it's own risks. To be rewarded you don't have to always assituate destruction and loss with an activity. Putting time in to something is of notable value. There are other things a solo player can do to earn more money per hour, but hey, with more reward comes more risk, right? I kind of see mining on the lower rung of what you can do to earn NIC per hour.

The large alliances are pretty annoying in the aspect of their disregard for what they're doing. I remember when FOOM first hit Beta, we were having a good time. Everyone was saying how glad they were that there was fresh faces on beta and that they wanted to see us grow. Then on the other hand everyone roamed us on a daily basis. The whole pat you on the back and then knife you situation was pretty annoying and I see it happening on Als now.

FOOM never wanted to be a part of anything big, but the other corps in the game kinda forced that by grinding our new pilots every single day. You don't really have much other options than to join a blob or die. It's one thing to have decent fights every so often, but when you do it multiple times a day with sizeable forces, you may as well be declaring war. The main reason I can see that the bigger groups don't make it formal is because it would make them look like bullies for picking on the small guy, so they just roam and hope that no one notices outside the people getting bent over on a daily basis.

Like I said in chat the other day, I feel sorry for Squid. Everyone's just going to roam them now because they're active and excited about the game. I give it another week or so before their members start to realize this crap is going to keep happening until they either leave or form a truce with one of their daily raiders. It would be nice if the people doing it at least stated their intentions. But I suppose the killboards speak volumes more truth anyway.

ECM swarms seem to be the new FotM.  The 300 range is what makes it potent, because it's way outside light weapon optimals. So you can easily be kited and jammed before they are even in any danger. Paired with a suppressor and you're pretty much dead. They'll likely easily lock break and keep you lock broken.

The best way to counter it is to fit ECCM and S.Amps, but even if that happens they're fast enough to stay away from you anyway. What sucks even more is that heavies are sitting with an 85 strength, so they're more susceptible to the ECM. I wouldn’t be surprised to see 1-2 light EWAR able to keep an HM ECM’d indefinitely and possibly even killing the HM if they had good enough EP.

To be honest I wouldn’t mind seeing diminishing returns on ECM. Or perhaps separating the potency of ECM from light and Med class by having 2 modules and toning down the range on light class jamming. If you want to jam a Heavy or Mech, you should be using the EWAR Mech imo and not some dinky little light. How a cpu system in a 25m HM is worse than that of something like a 500k assault is beyond me, but apparently it just works and ECM is likely going to turn in to the next most complained about fit/tactic.
