Topic: New research system testing - July 2013

The public test server for the new research system is open!

Relevant blog post:
http://blog.perpetuum-online.com/posts/ … f-science/

Summary of important stuff about the PTS and how to access it:

  • Installer for the test client: http://content.perpetuum-online.com/fil … p_test.exe

  • Don't install into the same folder as your live client.

  • After it’s installed, copy over your Local.gbf file from your normal installation so you don’t have to configure your settings and arrange your windows again.

  • Log in with your live account.

  • There is only one island for now, New Virginia. Everyone has been moved there.

  • You got a gazillion NIC for testing.

  • You got extra 300 000 EP for testing as well.

  • Production times are vastly reduced for the sake of... you know. (Displayed times are normal, but the process itself is fast.)

  • The RP that you have on the test server is what you will have on the live server too when the patch goes live. (Plus what you research in the meantime on the live server.)

  • Kernels and various industrial resources are available to buy on the market for cheap NIC, but that's not going to be the case on the live server of course.

Testing will commence throughout the weekend and will end some time in the middle of next week. The plan is to deploy the patch to the live server towards the end of next week.

What needs to be tested
  • The research process itself: Kill NPC/loot artifact -> consume kernel -> unlock items in the knowledgebase -> prototype items (also with bonus) -> mass-produce items with bonus

  • The workings of the new research access corporation settings.

  • If you find old kernels anywhere (NPCs, artifacts), that's bad. The exception are the orders you currently have on the market, those were ignored for now during the conversion.

  • Anything that works on the live server but is broken here should be reported.

Known issues
  • The old research extension is still there, but that's going to be removed and reimbursed when the patch goes live. (It does nothing anymore.)

  • The information window of certain CTs displays the prototype items as an end product instead of the normal items.

  • If you have a doubled terminal chat, that's probably due to the forced moving to TMA terminal.

This post will be constantly updated as we progress with the testing.
Feedback and any issues you find should be posted in this topic.

NVM

Re: New research system testing - July 2013

In the research window, while hovering over the 'Available RP' icons and numbers, the tooltips don't work quite properly (some overlapping maybe).

Indeed, noted.

Re: New research system testing - July 2013

Precisions :

- 1 structure kernel will be convert to 400 Common kernels + 400 Hi-Tech kernels.

- Your actual MPC research will be convert to specific research points :
           => T1 MPC = 100 % Common points
           => T2 MPC = 50 % common points + 50 % Hi-tech points
           => T3 MPC = 100 % Hi-Tech points

Rp needed for :

Pelistal research =

  • total common RP = 1 164 200

  • total pelistal RP = 2 308 100

  • total hi-tech RP = 333 950

Nuimqol research =

  • total common RP = 1 015 000

  • total Nuimqol  RP = 2 180 600

  • total hi-tech RP = 344 800

Thelodica research =

  • total common RP = 1 015 000

  • total Thelodica  RP = 2 180 600

  • total hi-tech RP = 344 800

Industrial research =

  • total common RP = 529 300

  • total Industrial  RP = 1 514 000

  • total hi-tech RP = 169 850

Common I research =

  • total common RP =  1 383 700

  • total hi-tech RP = 158 350

Common II research =

  • total common RP = 3 874 300

  • total hi-tech RP = 523 350

MPC research =

  • total common RP =  1 258 100

  • total hi-tech RP = 2 882 100

TOTAL

  • TTotal common RP = 10 239 600

  • TTotal Hi-Tech RP = 4 757 200

PS : Need  "WHITE" color for my MK-II bot !! :D

Re: New research system testing - July 2013

Just a quick note: if suddenly everything stops and nothing seems to update anymore, that means that the server caught an error and happily waits for supervisor input. If this happens while we sleep, you'll have to wait till morning, sorry about that smile We'll tell it tomorrow to ignore these and play nice.

Re: New research system testing - July 2013

It would be better if the RP icons would be 2-3x bigger, for better reading, and less mistakes, I don't need glasses but It's small to me.

Re: New research system testing - July 2013

RP Party time!

Some more UI suggestions, mostly polishing.

Re: New research system testing - July 2013

Found this bug:

- kill robot
- loot wreck
- open cargo
- right-click the kernels > research .. works like a charm
- close cargo
- open cargo .. kernels (multiple stacks) are back
- right-click the kernels > research .. kernels disappear (all stacks)
- close cargo
- open cargo .. and they're back again :-)
- etc...

edit: subsequently trying to loot another wreck fails (inside the loot window: 'Error: The process failed. Please try again.').
edit 2: relogging (instant) doesn't fix it.
edit 3: and neither does a client restart.

I confirm

Re: New research system testing - July 2013

Test server FREEZED DOWN.

Re: New research system testing - July 2013

I died with the aformentioned bugged cargo, that might be it lol

Re: New research system testing - July 2013

BMG broke it

Everyone set NV as your home station if you are messing around testing PvP.  When you die and try to go to other island server freezes.

Was this when the server stopped? Or how do you subsequently loot a wreck?

No, basically I went out, killed an NPC (west of Lenworth TP), researched the dropped kernels, then noticed the bug where the kernels reappear in your cargo after closing and opening the cargo window. I reported this in this thread, then tried looting another wreck (I figured this would probably be bugged as well, because of the 'ghost' kernels). Looting never worked, both with the kernels visible and after I tried researching them (they'll disappear only to reappear on closing and opening the cargo window).

Re: New research system testing - July 2013

Oh ok that's the same bug then. Looting probably tries to stack the kernels to a stack that doesn't exist.

Re: New research system testing - July 2013

The bad news is that we're going to have to disable researching kernels on the terrain, unfortunately there is no solution for that issue. (Unlocking items on the terrain is no problem.)

Re: New research system testing - July 2013

For those curious, here are the kernel conversion rates.

Re: New research system testing - July 2013

In other news: everyone got an active non-expiring account for the test server, so we don't have to worry about syncing subscriptions.
