Topic: New Player Experince

There is too much focus on firearms during the first few stages of the tutorial.

More focus needs to be put into kiting as low level tanking is far harder to achieve and dying in your first few minutes is not a joyous occasion for more players.

Extension undo limit of level 7 needs to be more dynamic or perhaps be raised to level 10. It'd be amazed if a 15 day trial can do that hard with extension changing. The real threat was from older players. Not any more an issue..

Re: New Player Experince

I agree, it is very confusing for new players as they are being led into assumption firearms are the way to go smile
It needs to be more faction and with that faction-weapon focused.

+1 to the Extension undo limit removal. 300k ep players do have that option anymore so it can be removed.

The ones saying "impossible" shall not disturb the ones already doing it

Re: New Player Experince

i think the faction choice, which is nothing but the choice of your spawn location, should happen ingame at the end of the tutorial,

The tutorial should happen on omega, and each agent should start with a syntech weapon of each faction that doesn't need ANY weapon extension trained.

Telling them the pro and cons of that - and all BEFORE they get to choose their faction.

Re: New Player Experince

and really - instead of working on THREE Tutorial mission lines several times to fix it after balancing changes or logic errors - this would be one time more work and then each fix must be done only once.

the current character creation process does not really reflect what i could read here

and another aspect would be: placing noobs on a seperated island for their learning process would shut off their beginner spawns from arkhe-grinder veterans

A little OFF

I thought before an idea, what about "vitrual" training, like before you had neurointegration, you can learn robot driving in "virtual" space what like similar than we see in Terminal windows, Nuimqol has blue lines, and so on.
That virtual place simulate Nia.

That is littel correlal with the story and the real life i like it!

And maybe you can go in virtual place to practice or anything else try.

Re: New Player Experince

Actually these ideas crossed our minds too, both the "rookie zone" and the "holographic training grounds". We didn't abandon them yet, but they would need an instance system to avoid any crowding issues, and we didn't get around that just yet.

Re: New Player Experince

I suggest Virtual Training rather than the current tutorial in beta. hmm

I love the idea of an area newbies can go and train but you need to think about somewhere that "Instructors" could also go to help the new players. I don't mean kill and grief them but stand around and point at targets with a special instructor robot. smile

Re: New Player Experince

Maybe the virtual trainer can be something that is client side-only.

This isn't a simple change by any means, but to elaborate:

The client PC already has all the graphical information, so while in training mode, when the user deployes to the terrain, they don't actually enter the persistant Perp world server, just a client-side representation of the world. This is different from instancing, its more like an 'offline' mode, except that the client would still need to be authenitated to the server and the client-mode initiated.

As long as there was no reverse synch, anything that happens in the client-mode wouldn't be updated to the persistant server.

Of course, in addition to the client code changes, you would also have to add offline 'content modules' that can simulate ore and NPC's that would normally be server-side info.

- This doesn't allow for trainers to join in, but that is something that can and maybe should be done on the live server anyway (Various reasons for and against multiuser training, but nothing that would be a serious argument one way or the other).

Re: New Player Experince

No need for instanse - client-side without even any connection, or Zero island that have only exit and no enter teleport.

Have a productive day, runner!

Re: New Player Experince

I recall during the tournament, Dev mentioned that they were actually thinking about making an instanced arena type place. While I'm not a fan, I think a proper arena could be detrimental to world PVP (then again, 50 online players isn't great for wPvP either), but that could provide the solution to training area plus provide more instant gratification for players that don't want to log in for hours (or can't spend hours roaming for a fight).

The idea of an instanced PVP area needs to die in a fire...........

Huge +1 to Annis idea... EXPLAIN the pros/cons of each color/weapon type to newbs!

Looking forward to new players and new conflicts.

Re: New Player Experince

I hate to say it but this thread is probably going to make a little of the next patch feel like time not wells spent to the devs now.

  • New Character Creation without Mega Corp or School

  • Virtual Training Ground. Can play each faction of robot and complete the 10 stage tutorial. No costs or expenses to the new player until they're in the real world.

  • Player chooses Megacorp (And Specialisation) at the end of the tutorial but are heavily informed that they can easily change direction just by changing what they install and upgrade.

  • Easily skipped if it's a returning player

  • If not completed before (Skipped by a new player) they can repeat the experience once but only for the assignments not character direction choices.

Wohoooo,
for holographig ttraining grounds, that is really good to who want to practice. Now you cant really practice effectively because 5 minute to wait to the pvp flag gone. What about price to go in? you can pay with training 1 hour or less. I would like to use it.

(Transparent faction colored areas in my mind awesome.

Re: New Player Experince

What about a new type of flag that can be activated only in an 'arena' area.

The "training" flag works just like the PVP flag, but when your HP goes to 0 or less, it gives you 1 HP, activates an immunity sheild, and disables your head and body slots until you leave the arena area.

Key features:

Only active in a limited area
Prevents robot loss
Functionally disables (but doesn't immobilize)
Effects removed up leaving area
